Electroacoustic Freakout
Livid Machines are at it again with another cool demo
I’ve been working on some new tools for our controllers, and in the process of prototyping some effect chains, I dug out this old Max patch of mine. Based on the resonators~ object from CNMAT (cnmat.berkeley.edu), it creates sounds based on “exciting” a model of a resonant body. Of course, because it is on a computer, it is super screwy. Because it is based on a physical model, I can claim a lofty “electroacoustic” lineage.
I quickly got distracted from my initial task to see if I could create some interesting sound processors from it, and hooked it up to my block. The grid of rubber buttons quickly revealed themselves as an ideal companion for an electro-acoustic freakout in which I could simultaneously feel like Sun-Ra and Stockhausen. But, really, I’m just getting sidetracked. I got to get back to work, and I hope you like the sounds…

Daybehavior’s Paulinda interviewed on their come back on the synthpop scene
Stereoklang got an exclusive talk with lead singer Paulinda Crescentini in the Swedish synthpop act Daybehavior, who recently announced their come back after almost 7 years in complete silence. With a new single out “It’s a game” and a new album planned for release this winter, we had to have a chat about their music and future plans. And of course a bit of insights into the hardware and software being used in their studio, somewhere hidden in central Stockholm.
Daybehavior is a trio consisting of Paulinda, Carl and Tommy, and having lost one of the band members for a retreat to Thailand it was a nice surprise to us all when suddenly after 7 years there was a sign of reunion. Although all members have continued with music in one form or another during that long period, e.g. Carl is a full-time musician and producer, the drive to making music together again brought them back together and the music video “City Lights” was released earlier this year.
Paulinda tells me that the new album, that will contain 12 new songs, is the best that ever has come out of the band and one success factor is that they now are all closely involved in the song writing process. Carl is the producer master mind, Daybehavior produces everything themselves as for now at least, Tommy often starts off the process by sending a demo from Phuket containing a general sound structure, to which Paulinda will add melody and lyrics. Paulinda and Carl, both frequent Logic users, will add to the song and after a few bounces across the globe they are ready for studio recording at Carl’s place.
It’s a game – pure electro pop
The new digital single from Swedish electropop trio Daybehavior is out now, complete with remixes by Parralox (Australia) and Marsheaux (Greece), two bands with a similar sound. The new album will be released later this winter.

US electro guys Provision are back
North America’s electronic act Provision return after 4 years of total silence during which they spent time with their families and re-grouped. The band’s newest album “Paradigm Shift” is coming on November 20th 2010. Note that the band is now consisting of 3 members. Next to Breye 7x and Jen Kiser there is Matt Willis of Splendor Projekt who joined the band in 2009.
“Paradigm Shift” includes an 8 page booklet featuring lyrics, color photos, and production notes for 10 new tracks featuring male and female vocals by all 3 band members. Expect a darker, edgier feel than in previous Provision albums as a whole. Stylistically, this album leans more towards industrial dance and less towards synthpop; with harder edged tracks.
Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go
“Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!!” is the third single taken from Trentemøller’s acclaimed new album “Into The Great Wide Yonder”. With its thrilling guitars and blazing synths “Silver Surfer…” is the rockiest track off the album and comes with remixes by Anders Trentemøller, Andrew Weatherall and Lulu Rouge (DJ T.O.M. and Buda).
The fantastic live-video has been recorded at the main stage of the Roskilde festival in summer 2009. Trentemøller was invited to arrange a special show for the biggest European summer festival which led to an extraoerdinary and unique performance which remains unforgotten by “50.000 people floating 10 cm above the ground”. The show featured Trentemøller DJing as well as performing tracks from his debut album “The Last Resort” as well as the new album “Into The Great Wide Yonder” in a full band setup.
Directed by Katja Boom Philip the show included an outstanding light show and gorgeous dance performances in spectacular costumes by designer Henrik Vibskov.
