Nice knobs – early arc experiment

January 22, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Nice knobs – early arc experiment

a micro-looper.

eight samplers, corresponding to columns of the grid.

record by holding second-from-bottom key.

focus arc to column by pushing bottom key.

left knob is loop selection. turn to move selection, push-turn to resize selection.

right knob is volume. turning changes velocity, not position, so a tremelo effect is easily achieved. pushing down stops the spin, like a turntable.

third key up is mute/unmute. top rows transpose up/down by octaves. top rows meter sound levels.

Plughugger brings you Nerd Electro

January 20, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Plughugger brings you Nerd Electro

Plughugger has announced the release of Nerd Electro, a new loop and sample library in Kontakt 3, SFZ, Reason and WAV formats.

Before house, acid, techno and trance – there was a magical world often referred as ‘the 80s’. In the eighties the unicorns roamed free on the streets and people had hairstyles that defied style, sense and gravity. Before house – and particularly the nasty acid house – came and destroyed everything, and made everybody so incredibly hip, life was cute, poppy and quite naive.

Nerd Electro is the Plughugger take on the eighties, when synthesizers were expensive as hell, weighted a ton, were impossible to program, and sounded just slightly better than the keyboards for Very Small Children.

Nerd Electro features

  • Nerd Electro is built around ten construction kits that includes loops, individual sounds and ready to go sampled instruments.
  • All loops have a fixed tempo of 128 BPM.
  • All drums both come as complete loops and individual stems.
  • If a sound source is heavily processed, it also comes dry (if it makes sense).
  • Everything was originally created in 24 bits and later resampled and dithered down to 16 bit.
  • The Kontakt versions of the sounds comes with a special interface for quick editing of the most common parameters.
  • Formats: Kontakt 3, Reason, SFZ and WAV.

Nerd Electro is available to purchase for €9.90 EUR.

Devine Gesture Variations for the “Stutter Edit” plug-in by iZotope

January 19, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Devine Gesture Variations for the “Stutter Edit” plug-in by iZotope

Going through a couple of my gesture variations for the Stutter Edit plug-in. Using only one instance for this example and processing a single drum loop with no other plug-ins. The gesture effects are triggered by a M-Audio Oxygen-8 MIDI keyboard while changing to different banks in real-time.

VOX VDL1 Dynamic Looper

January 15, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on VOX VDL1 Dynamic Looper

A candidate to challenge the reigning BOSS Loop Station line, there’s rival VOX. While they’re both loopers with some things to stomp on, the designs are quite different. The BOSS units can store up to three hours and 99 phrases; the VOX VDL1 stores two loops with a total recorded time of 90 seconds. Nor do you get the utility of the BOSS’ USB storage transfer. And the Vox is mono, whereas the BOSS is stereo.

In place of those features, the VDL1 focuses more on live looping and effects:

  • Live effects: Pedal/Wah (Clean/Comp/Crunch/Overdrive/Distortion), Mod (Chorus 1/Chorus 2/Flanger/Phaser/Tremolo), Bass (Electric 1-4/Synth 1/ Synth 2), Acoustic (four models). Pitch, stutter, EQ, delay, reverb, “sci-fi.”
  • Loop effects: volume, crossfade, reverse, “loop in loop” (no idea on that one), pitch, speed, scrube, stutter, mod, filter, delay.
  • Master limiter.
  • Mono input jack, mic in (no phantom power)
  • Undo and redo in overdubbing.
  • Infinite layers.

This video demonstrates using the VDL1 and the basic operation of the controls.

Monotron feedback loop

Looping the output of the monotron back into the input give you a simple feedback loop – going to splice more in later to get a bit of control, but in the meantime you can get an idea of how to push the filter even further!
