Kraftzwerg Speak – Suspense
Background information on this video featuring the awesome Kraftwerg synth
Welcome to the first part of my new series called Kraftzwerg Speak. All the sounds you’ll be hearing in this series are created exclusively on the MFB Kraftzwerg semi-modular analog monophonic synthesizer. This series will be all about creating unique and interesting sounds. If you want to hear music produced by this synth, check out my Kraftzwerg Trance series.
Modulations for Bob
Description:
Thinking about Bob Moog on the anniversary of the founding of the Bob Moog Foundation, so I cranked up some synths and modulated some filters in his honor. www.moogfoundation.org
Setting up Livid Elements Modular System
A basic guide on setting up your Elements modular MIDI controller system from Livid Instruments.
Element modules come in many different configurations and layouts so you can rearrange, replace, and mix modules, creating your own MIDI controller with ease. Each module connects to the Elements Brain for easy plug-and-play configuration and setup. Elements modules are housed in one of our custom eurorack cases for total plug-and-play integration. The standardized, modular format allows for an incredible amount of flexibility and expansion.
Elements is based around the eurorack format, a popular analog synth standard of modules and enclosure sizes so you can create your own customized setup. The threaded rails of the cases make it easy to connect and configure your controller by simply plugging the module into the Brain and fastening it to the rails. The Elements Configuration Utility lets you configure your layout and edit your MIDI settings. With a growing list of available modules (don’t forget: you can create your own Elements, too!) we’ve designed this system to grow with you and the community of people making modules for the Elements system. Our own DIY Omni boards are also compatible with the Elements system.
seqSQUARED: The Analogue Pattern Generator
seqSQUARED is a do it yourself (“DIY”) kit and eurorack assembled module for analog modular synthesis. It will be available shortly in multiple package options:
– Fully assembled and tested Eurorack module
– Eurorack kit (for DIY)
– Universal kit (for DIY)
– Bare PCB + Microcontroller (for DIY)
It takes up to four sequencers’ CV and Gate as input and allows you to arrange them into larger patterns up to 32 steps in length. It generates patterns much the same way you would in Fruity Loops or other software, except with analog hardware.
It is a perfect companion to an array of hexinverter.net sympleSEQs!
It works very similarly to the many sequential switches available on the market today, like the Doepfer A-151 or Fonitronik switch, except that it is programmable. Meaning, you can program arbitrary patterns of sequences to make musical arrangements, not just go A, B, C, D, repeat, like with most sequential switches.
This module is meant to FEEL analog. It uses potentiometers and 5mm LEDs, NOT LCDs or menu-driven editing. Because of this analog user interface, it is quite fast and painless to program once you have used it for a few minutes.
Once everything has settled down after pre-orders are shipped, kits and modules will be available in hexinverter.net’s online shop as well, at:

Rebel Technologies – Stoicheia
Rebel Technology, a new Eurorack module manufacturer, has introduced Stoicheia – a Eurorack format Euclidean trigger sequencer. Stoicheia algorithmically generates rhythmic sequences from an input trigger signal. The name comes from the title of Euclid’s book Elements, in which the algorithm was first described.
“Martin’s prototype euclidean sequencer, it’s excellent fun. It has two channels which send triggers to whatever you like. Each channel has the same three knobs and a switch. Importantly for me it makes rhythms that are really useful in a dance floor kind of way. Useful patches are often hard to come by on modulars
And you can hear the same sort of patch, over a beat from the computer, on sound cloud here:
http://soundcloud.com/voodooinsomnia/stoicheia-test
Eventually I’ll finish my drum modules so the beats can come straight out of the modular. “

Modular Moogerfooger Madness
Background information:
Having some fun with a whole rack of Moogers. All sounds in this clip are generated and modulated by Moogerfoogers. Not all of them are hooked up for this patch, but the ones that are include the MF-107 FreqBox, MF-101 Low-Pass Filter, MF-102 Ring Modulator, MF-103 12-Stage Phaser, MF-105 MuRF, MF-104SD Super Analog Delay, and CP-251 Control Processor (plus EP-2 Expression Pedal).
There were some very freaky vocal sounds happening here, which made me say “I HAVE to record this.” You can hear this sound like, “yiee yiee YIPE YIPE YIPE YIPE YIPE.” Really weird (and kind of spooky when you’re in a room alone with this stuff. Don’t ask me how it was patched, I probably wouldn’t be able to get the same sound again if I tried.
Closer look at BEATSURFING – the organic MIDI instrument builder
This iPad application lets you design MIDI instruments from the ground up and then play them in a unique way: by sliding (‘surfing’) your finger across the screen. This very special approach to beat making and production allows for more creative expression and brings back a human touch and feel to your MIDI habits.

The Analog Lab NYC-Moog Modular-Holst | The Planets, Op. 32: I. Mars, The Bringer of War
Here’s a nice video featuring the Moog Modular, enjoy
This Moog Modular was originally owned by Gershon Kingsley and played at the January 1969 performance of the Moog Quartet. Over the years, it was also owned by Ken Bichel and has had numerous additional modules installed.
The Analog Lab in NYC has restored this piece to beautiful playing condition and the unit can be heard in all its glory in this video*. No additional effects were added.
This piece of Musical History is also for sale on eBay, so check it out!

*editors note: I know some parts aren’t perfectly in tune…get over it.
