Get to know the “The Swarm” Free Noise Drone Synth
Nice spacy sounds in this one:
It gets loud at moments, so watch your speaker volume : A demo of the new free standalone synth “The Swarm”. Rather unique compared to most other free synths available (Mac too!). I really enjoy the deep tone. Inspired by Leon Dewan’s “The Swarmatron”. A good alternative for people who don’t have several thousand dollars readily available. Obviously, this is no substitute for the real analog version but it does give the user a taste of the massive power of 8 Saws layered and detuned a bit from a central tone. Leon makes some of the most unique analog pieces around. Kontrolled by a Korg “NanoKontrol”
An impressive piece of code.

All the details on the Crystal synth
Crystal XT is a full featured semi-modular synthesizer, ideally suited to creating lush evolving soundscapes. Crystal VST has long been a popular synthesizer on the desktop. Crystal XT brings that same powerful synthesis engine to the iPad and iPhone. Crystal XT features MIDI keyboard input via the iPad’s camera adapter or the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer and sharing of sounds with the desktop version of Crystal. Browse through the included sounds and use the 2 octave keypad to trigger notes to produce evolving, rhythmic, or melodic sounds. Create your own sounds with a single button press using the breed feature.
When using an iPad, you can delve into a tweaker’s dream by using the extensive editing features to sculpt sounds to your heart’s content (editing features are only available when used on an iPad). Crystal features both subtractive synthesis and frequency modulation (FM) synthesis. It offers abundant modulation control with over 90 parameters which may be modulated, multi-stage envelopes with graphical editors, extensive tempo sync of envelopes/lfo rates/delay times, built-in effects for chorus/flanging/comb filtering/echoes, and a band splitter for effects processing by frequency band. Not only that, Crystal has wave sequencing and granular synthesis. The musical applications for Crystal are literally boundless. With MIDI keyboard input, you can connect a MIDI keyboard to your iPad and play Crystal XT like a hardware synth. Or use the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer and connect your MIDI keyboard to Crystal XT on an iPhone. With patch sharing you can create sounds on your iPad or iPhone while away from the studio, then transfer them to the desktop Crystal when you get back to the studio to use in recording projects. Or, create banks of sounds on the desktop Crystal, then transfer them to the iPad/iPhone Crystal to use in a live performance for a truly portable rig.
If you don’t need all the features of Crystal XT, try the basic version of Crystal, also available in the app store from Green Oak Software. With the basic version you can browse sounds, play notes, and create new sounds, taking advantage of its powerful semimodular synthesis engine. Crystal XT adds MIDI keyboard input via the iPad’s camera adapter and sharing of patches with the desktop version. Choose the app that is best for you! Important note for iPhone and iPodTouch users: Crystal XT runs on both the iPad and the iPhone/iPod Touch. Because of the limited screen space on the iPhone however, the editing pages, which contain the edit controls, are not available when running on that device. But on the iPhone you can still browse sounds, play notes from the keypad, create new sounds with the Breed feature, and share sounds with desktop Crystal VST. Note: MIDI input requires an iPad. Apple’s camera adapter is not supported on the iPhone/iPod Touch. I recommend www.iosmidi.com as a good place to go to learn whether specific keyboards will work with the camera adapter.
For videos and information about Crystal XT, visit: http://www.greenoak.com What’s New in Version 1.2 – New two octave keypad with selectable modes – Patch designer on iPhone for creating patches – Audio recording which may be copied to desktop – Audio copy/paste to copy recordings to other apps – Support for Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer to connect a MIDI keyboard to Crystal on an iPhone or iPad – Patch breeding can now include up to 20 user patches – High precision mode (drag vertically to get high precision after touching slider) for precise slider adjustments. Turn you guitar into a string synth and tin whistle
Welcome to Electro-Harmonix’s “Effectology” series, in which we create a remarkable collection of impossible sounds using just a regular guitar and EHX effect pedals!
No keyboards, samplers or midi pickups were used.
In this episode I show how to turn you guitar into a string synth and Irish tin whistle.

Fancy a 6 oscillator synth?
Filthpig is a monstrous, six oscillator hybrid synthesizer with an extreme potential for tweakability. Geared towards drones, noise, sirens and circuit-bent style glitching, Filthpig employs two full, three oscillator synth sections — one to produce sound and the other to act as a dedicated modulation source. Each section contains two tuning controls, a modulation depth knob, a waveform selector (five waveforms) and an amplitude envelope for each oscillator as well as a 3 x 3 modulation matrix that lets the output of any oscillator modulate any other oscillator (including itself). These modulation matrices also contain sync switches, and the modulator part of the synth also links oscillator output to the pitch values for the sound-producing section. Although a monosynth at heart, Filthpig also has the ability to be switched into a three voice poly mode for added functionality, and also has two cascaded filters (hicut and then locut) for tone shaping. Whether you are an experimentalist or just like crazy sounds, Filthpig is sure to crawl out of the garbage can and into your heart (where it will undoubtedly lay eggs and die).

Teaser for VSP-330 Voice Synth Plus beta r2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K6xHk_hW4o
Version 2 beta sound test of my Voice Synth Plus VST plugin. Ready for download soon – stay tuned!
Added Features:
– Stunning new GUI looks more like a vintage instrument
– “pitch set” knob for the pitch shift slider
– “tune” knob like the original, global detuning by +/- 50 cents
– ensemble controls: rate, depth, amount
– power button!
– and a wicked new feature….OSC2 detuning! OSC2 is the source for Male 8′ and string Bass 16′. Instead of OSC2 being restricted to one octave below OSC1, pitch intervals can now be set. You can also make OSC2 be very close to OSC1 tuning, resulting in two voice unison detuned-type sounds. It takes the classic VP-330 sound to a whole new level – you will not believe your ears!
The audio was recorded in Cubase on four tracks w/ no other processing added – ALL VSP-330!
