Electronic music pioneer Erkki Kurenniemi built in 1970 by pioneering synthesizer, which was conceived by the amazing, controlled version of the video camera.

Erkki Kurenniemi (b. 1941) is a Finnish electronic music essential equipment builder and experimenter. He built the University of Musicology in the early 60s experimental studio, which became an indispensable avant-garde music clinic.

Kurenniemi is also a self-made music and movies. He was closely involved in his time artistic activities quite like happening, contemporary music concerts and underground events.

In 1970, Kurenniemi completed the first version of the synthesizer and DIMI (Digital Music Instrument). The device was played by touching the two metal bar in the circuit board packaging.

Kurenniemi introduced this DIMI-A model in 1970, the Old Student House e-music event. The machine presents skills by calling Old Man NOAA.

Video camera operating DIMI-O was made in 1971 for television presentation in English film (see the translation of the information box below). Dancer in Riitta Vainio experiment to produce the music with a camera and video synth help. Film for one reason or another, never shown on television.

Short vid here having fun with two separate MacBeth Mk1 Modulars! The lead synth on here is comprised of the Mk1 Oscillator ‘B’ (‘B’ for beast!) which on this vid is using PWM and two sub octaves to genrate it’s lead sound- also this 3 module minisynth features the vintage parts State Variable Filter (Mk1 Filter ‘B’) and the Mk1 Dual EG module. Bass synth is two Mk1 Oscillator ‘A’s, Mk1 Mixer, Mk1 all discrete Filter ‘A’ and a Mk1 Dual EG module. I have a wonderlust about my vintage Hammond emulator- the Korg CX-3 (original) so I thought I’d treat the keys with some screwdrives instead of knives! Keith!- you are to blame! A ham-fisted video as always- but it gives you the sound!
Keyboard controllers are Korg Prophecys’ and two Kenton Pro Solos.

Update on the Teenage synth

Teenage Engineering has released an update on the status of their much-hyped OP-1 synthesizer.

Here’s what they have to say:

Project status

  • When it comes to functionality, 90% percent is completed and working.
  • Some parts of the system is still being fine tuned and optimized. Overall we are extremely happy with what we have.
  • The OP-1 will be shipped with 6 synthesizer engines and 2 sampler types. Pulse was shown at the NAMM show, the other synthesizer
  • engines are DrWave, FM, Phase, String, Digital, Cluster. Further it will include 8 effects, 3 LFO types and 3 original sequencers.
  • The Mixer section has a dedicated EQ and Drive as well as Master Balance and an additional Master Effect slot.
  • The Sequencers can be matched to the tape speed with a feature called Beat Match.
  • The Tape also have additional ONE-KEY features added that will be revealed at launch.

Beta test

  • The beta test is approaching. The beta sign up has been closed for quite some time. So wait and see if you are one of those we invite to participate.
  • When the beta machines will be released those invited have the option to buy a machine, get all updates and be credited in the manual.
  • Unfortunately we cannot give beta machines away for free or reduce the price.
  • We are very excited about this final phase when the feature set will be locked down and to get feedback from fresh eyes and ears.

Hardware

  • We just received the golden sample for the keyboard module / plastic parts from the factory. And we are very satisfied with the look and feel of it.
  • The complexity level of the OP-1’s electronics makes component sourcing a bit tricky. As soon as we get the missing chips we will go into production with the first beta batch.
  • Shortly after, the first full production run will be started. So keep your fingers crossed that all this works out.

Synth designer Jürgen Michaelis has announced preorders for a limited run of the Jaymesonic Resonator Neuronium synthesizer, a synthesizer that offers a unique approach to synthesis:

Because we get periodically inquiries on the Resonator Neuronium, we have opened a new preordering cycle until December 31, 2010. If more than 20 preorders come in until then, we at Jomox can manufacture a new run of the R.N.

The Resonator Neuronium has 6 analog resonant neurons. The net parameters can be programmed by the left hand structure in form of a hexagon by use of knobs, buttons and LEDs.

The cost is 2499.00 €.

Basic 64 is a free software synth inspired by the 8-bit sounds of the classic Commodore 64.

According to creator De La Mancha, “It’s not a straight emulation but is based around the SID chip with some extras for that 8-bit retro game sound, lofi gritty noises or just plain oddness.”
