GAIA Synthesizer Sound Designer
Roland has introduced GAIA Synthesizer Sound Designer, a software-based editor application for the GAIA SH-01 Synthesizer.
Compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X, the GAIA Synthesizer Sound Designer allows users to access the GAIA synth’s entire set of sound parameters visually, via a computer.
Once the GAIA Synthesizer Sound Designer is installed, all that is required is a USB connection between the GAIA synth and the PC. With the GAIA Synthesizer Sound Designer’s interactive interface, users have complete control over sound creation. Every control for the GAIA’s three synthesizer engines is represented, while the unique Waveform Display shows the shape of the currently edited waveform in a virtual oscilloscope, providing a graphical representation of the sound.
The Action List feature allows users to record and play back every step of the sound-creation process. Additionally, the GAIA Synthesizer Sound Designer comes with many sample Action Lists that detail the creation of common sounds such as synth bass and synth lead. This feature helps beginners understand basic synthesis and aids music educators teaching in synthesizer labs.
The GAIA Synthesizer Sound Designer also provides a way for users to backup, organize, and store their custom GAIA sounds. Included with the GAIA Synthesizer Sound Designer are a number of newly created patches, ready for loading into the GAIA Synthesizer.
The GAIA Synthesizer Sound Designer is expected to be available in October with an MSRP of $99.00.
DM fans gets more nostalgica
A couple of days ago Vince Clarke twittered “collaborating with Martin (Gore) (from Basildon)” on a track called “Zaat”. Clarke has been working intensely on the new Erasure album for some time and apparently Clarke and Gore, who are both living in USA (Maine and California respectively) have decided to work together professionally for the first time since Clarke left Depeche Mode.

Gore will be appearing to DJ at an aftershow DM/Recoil party. Martin has graciously agreed to appear just for this event to spin a collection of his favourite tracks, Alan Wilder writes regarding his Recoil stop in Santa Ana, California, on October 24.

Non-stop Andy “Erasure” Bell
To be released on October 11 is the newest single for Andy Bell, “Non-stop”. The single will feature remixes from London based remix team Digital Dog (Tinchy Stryder, Britney Spears, Rihanna) and exclusive tracks (“Flying Colours” and the instrumental version of “Non-Stop” plus the “Say What You Want (Joy Joy Mix)” by Ste Ashworth – the winning remix from a recent competition on andybell.com).
Signals with four oscillators

That sounds amazingly awesome – until you think about how many times you’ve needed to control Ableton Live from 100 meters away.
The video does demonstrate, though, that TouchAble frees live users to perform away from their computer – anywhere within WiFi range.

KORG 808 on Reason 5
“First and foremost, this is an attempt to create a usable Roland TR-808 sample set for the Kong Drum Designer in Propellerhead Software Reason 5 / Record 1.5. From there, it’s become a sound design experiment to see how the original sounds can be manipulated using the various effects in the Kong Drum Designer device. This is a preview of some of the patch sets for the refill.
The sampling of the TR-808 is fairly extensive with over 500 individual samples. 250 variations of the dry tones and their corresponding accent tones. Multiple samples of Hand Clap and Hi Hats reveal the analog nature of the 808 as no two samples of the same tone are identical.
Some tones are processed through some hardware and DSP to create special effect palettes, but the source of all the sounds is based on the 808 hardware.
