Featuring an interesting chip music seminar from Revision 2011

May 3, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Featuring an interesting chip music seminar from Revision 2011

Elements of Chip Music
Abstract:
When working with a soundchip such as the SID or the 2A03, the artist faces a number of technical constraints that limit, guide and inspire the creative process. The seminar will highlight and briefly explain some of these constraints, with particular emphasis on how they influenced artists during the golden age of chip music to give rise to some of the clichés that now define the genre. We will also see (and hear) how variations of the same constraints have emerged in other genres and ages, and how composers such as Bach have tackled them in similar or different ways.

DubSpot presents you with a “WaveShaper Combinator Effect w/ Malström” tutorial

May 3, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on DubSpot presents you with a “WaveShaper Combinator Effect w/ Malström” tutorial

For more info – http://bit.ly/kxOGZt

In this new video tutorial titled To Waveshape the Future, Dubspot instructor and electronic music producer Chris Petti shows you how to create a WaveShaper Combinator effect patch from scratch using Propellerhead Reason’s powerful synthesizers Malström and Thor. First, Petti starts with a fully-built WaveShaper effect patch plugged into to the output of Thor (which is generating an unprocessed sine wave) with a series of real-time controls mapped to Combinator. When the WaveShaper is engaged, the unprocessed sound is transformed dramatically. Then, in a step by step process, Petti demystifies the method he used to create the effect patch and shows you how to build your own WaveShaper effect from scratch, utilizing with a blank combinator patch. At the end of the tutorial you should have a good grasp of how to Wave Shape (process, bend, twist, or modify) any incoming sound and make the lead elements in your tracks more effective and lively.

In the demo the unit is operated by an optional 9 Volt Wall supply.  The delay itself is based on the PT2399 Digital IC, only bare minimum of components were used to make assembly as simple as possible. Sound Design I did in Absynth. I had in mind the great monolith scene in Stanley Kubricks film A Space Odyssey. I modulated the pitch of all 3 oscillators very slowly in time to achieve tone clusters at various points in the piece.

Up for a challenge? How about remixing Howard Jones

May 2, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Up for a challenge? How about remixing Howard Jones

Howard Jones has started the ‘ReWork Howard Jones’ project. The ReWork project will give music producers, both rising stars and old hands alike, the chance to remix / recreate / ReWork some of Howard Jones’ finest records. The project launches on April 18th with the release of remix parts for “Automaton”, a track taken from his 1985 platinum selling album, “Dream Into Action”. Beyond April 18th, Howard and the team will continue to release sets of remix parts for a number of past classics; tracks picked from a music repertoire spanning in-excess of 25 years.

Interested parties ‘need not toil in vein’. Whilst the motivation of remixing an original synth-pop icon might be enough for many, Jones and the team will be paying special attention to the contributors that attract both their ear and the attention of the community peers. With copyrights returned and a burgeoning list of A-list studio hacks interested in reworking Howard, a new album concept has been born; details of which will be announced soon. What can be confirmed is that the overall ‘winner(s)’ will become part of said album concept.

If you are interested in getting involved, all ReWork Howard Jones news, announcements updates, and communications, including the release of new audio parts, can be discovered via the offical blog and content hub, www.reworkhowardjones.info , first.
