Soundcells has released Digital Genome v3

November 19, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Soundcells has released Digital Genome v3

In modern molecular biology, the genome is the entirety of an organism´s hereditary information. It is encoded either in DNA or in case of this fine ReFill it´s the AMIGA1200 encoded in Reason´s NNXT samples. The AMIGA1200 with it´s 8-bit Paula chip was extremely popular among producers all over the world in the early nineties. “Digital Genome” picks up the thread where Soundcells left with “bitBUMPER deluxe” with it´s funky, housy and spacy lo-fi character! Warm, gritty, sleezy, dangerous and nostalgic are the keywords. This ReFill can be used as a full workstation since everything the old Amiga had to offer is in there: basses, keys, lead synths, warm pads and enough drums and percussion to eat your heart out. And do not forget the wonderful FX section. The 200+ Genome combinators are conveniently built up with the right button functionality. Version 3 adds 25 new combinator patches, new NNXT patches as well as revised backdrops…

‘Digital Genome v3‘ Contents:

• 203 combinator patches in 6 folders, great for many different styles of music.

> 36 Basses

> 28 SFX

> 43 Keys

> 18 Leads

> 27 Misc

> 51 Pads

• 208 NNXT patches containing the basic sounds which were used for the combinators.

• 230 original AMIGA1200 samples, 178 MB uncompressed.

• 21 fresh and great useable rex loops.

Gotye – Somebody That I Used to Know – Old School Computer Remix

Background description:

HP Scanjet 3C as the vocals. It lags a bit due to the fast paced vocals. In order for the stepper motor to play a note it has to be moving and with that large carriage it takes a few milli seconds before it can play a note. It doesn’t sound like a lot of time but stretch that over a 4 minute song and voila…out of sync. Programming does help to compensate but it is not perfect.
Amiga 600 Bass on left audio output and Guitar on right audio output
Each audio channel was feed into an oscilloscope
2 Harddrives as the drums and cymbal
Xylophone as the Xylophone (duh)
Both the Harddrive and Xylophone are controlled by one PIC16F84A mircocontroller

Hexadeci – Alone In The Dark (8bit Amigacore / Vinyl 7″)

February 10, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Hexadeci – Alone In The Dark (8bit Amigacore / Vinyl 7″)

Potentially the best Amigacore music in the past 10 years

This music is some of the best Amigacore in the past 10 years – skirting between party music for the post-apocalyptic crowd and a nightmarish take on otherwise light-hearted themes. What’s most remarkable about these tunes isn’t necessarily Hexadeci’s programming expertise (he’s totally awesome), or the creative use of seemingly random samples (Shakira? A Swiss yodeler?). No, it’s how he manages to effectively tear down dance music to shape his own tastes *AND* create tunes that are actually MUSICAL, instead of slipping into the same tired traps of hardcore posturing. It’s a fun record and we promise you’ll get some seriously confused looks when you drop a Swiss Yodelcore track at your next house party. Try it. Film it. Send us the video.

It’s exciting, it’s loud, it’s flawed, it’s idea-driven and it’s how we like it. We know you will too.

With roots in both catchy and extreme music plus an unhealthy obsession with errors and variation, Goto80 delivers eclectic music based on 8-bit technology. During 15 years he has released hundreds of songs on vinyl, CD’s, cassettes and floppy disks but also for movies, games and art projects. Starting in the demoscene, he gained recognition outside of geek culture in 2001 with the Papaya EP. He’s on a never ending mission to look beyond the video game romantics and explore genres such as ambient, breakcore, country, schlager and jazz, although Goto80 is often recognized for the melodic pop songs. In 2007 he played 40 shows and made 20 releases including the CD-album Made On Internet. More info can be found at http://www.goto80.com/promo

C64 VST

March 7, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · 1 Comment

I have received quite a few questions on the recently posted C64 VST and if there is something similar that will run on a MAC, well there is (of course) I just think the other one had a somewhat more intuitive user interface and a little better sounding as well.

But for you all MAC and C64 lovers here is your alternative:
