Revolution-808 drum machine sample library
Sounds Outside the Lines has released Revolution-808, a drum machine sample library featuring the sounds of the Roland TR-808.
Although production of the TR-808 stopped in 1983, and only 12,000 were ever produced, by the time Hip-hop had reached popularity a few short years later the 808 – and especially it’s bass drum – became the defining sound of the genre.
The TR-808 is now considered to be the most recorded electronic drum machine of the last 30 years and is still used on countless songs and productions today. From classic R&B and Hip-Hop to Rock and Pop music the TR-808 has been used by artists ranging from Marvin Gaye and Tupac to Pink and Phoenix.
Revolution-808 features

Introduced in 1980 by a popular japanese manufacturer of electronic instruments, the TR-808 was one of the first fully programmable drum machines that featured a sequencer and completely analog generated sounds. Originally intended as a way for musicians to provide rhythm tracks to home demos, the TR-808 was far from the marketing success it was hope to be when launched. Due to it’s analog circuitry it couldn’t compete against the realism of digital drum machines of the time and was seen by many as inferior. Even by the standards of other now vintage drum machines the TR-808 contains no standard MIDI support and all programming had to be done with the internal 16-step sequencer. What was seen as a limitation in the early eighties is now thought of as the TR-808′s greatest strength. The fact that it is a fully analog drum machine means their is a character and depth to the sound which, unlike digital drum machines, evolves as the machine is played and has an unmistakable low end punch and snap

The Machinedrum SPS-1 MKII has a bigger brother, the Machinedrum SPS-1UW+ MKII. They are almost identical, but the SPS-1UW+ MKII also features a sampling engine and a +Drive. The +Drive greatly expands the storage capabilities. If you require more storage, the SPS-1 MKII can be upgraded with a +Drive.
Really weird drum machine architecture
Drum Toy uses an admittedly weird drum machine architecture and concept. You create basic loops using Drum Toy’s Every and Offset knobs, and then feather in the secret ingredient: Probability!
In a way, Drum Toy ‘thinks’ the way drummers do. Find the pocket, lay down the main groove and sprinkle lightly with a few tasty fills or variations here and there to keep things fresh. Drum Toy is set up to force certain beats while leaving others to just the right amount of chance. This simple mechanism yields a surprising array of personality.

New drum machine for the iPad
MyElectronica has introduced a new iPad drum machine – D-Pad:

D-Pad comes with 3 different sections: the mixer, the grid and the effect rack.
The Mixer offers you:
- To individually change the Volume, the Pan and the Tune of each track
- To play each track in live mode with dedicated pads, where changes and effects also apply
- To record in live mode with a quantize functionality
The Grid allows you:
- To have a full overview of the rhythm you are creating
- To quickly assign events to each track with the multi-touch enable. Just swipe the pads with your fingers.
- To easily identify when one or more tracks are in solo
The Effect view allows you:
- To control which effect is applied on the whole track
- To set each single parameters of each effect. Here again, the multi -touch enable allows you to modify many parameters at the same time.
D-Pad also comes with the great audio Mix-down feature: create a rhythm (with the sequencer or with the live mode) and record it. The corresponding audio file is stored in the document folder of the D-Pad Application.
