PaulDavidKearvell makes instrumental lo-fi electro lounge music. And I believe it is important to judge it based on this because (and don´t take this wrong way) it is a montone music experience.

I believe Paul does his job quite well and the mastering feels pretty OK, however I do get a bit disturbed by the all too monotone drums that does not change one bit across the entire song and that starts to irritate me when I have passed 50% of the song and all the delicate effects put in cannot cover that.

I would probably also experiement with more interesting pads that would perhaps enrich the overall impressions or alternatively some delicate samples that just would flavor the background somewhat.

However, all in all I like how Paul has skillfully chosen sounds that fit together nicely and from a production perspective their is not much to complain about.

Just a quick note there are lots of nice songs on Paul’s homepage that are of good quality, so make sure to listen to him there as well before taking this one tune as the truth of all his music production

Looking forward to your next track

Check out Kite…

September 1, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Check out Kite…

Swedish electropop/new wave duo Kite from the southern parts of Sweden has just signed with Progress Productions. Their first release will be an EP with four songs.

About

The story of Kite started when Christian Berg (Yvonne, Strip Music) asked
Nicklas Stenemo (The Mo, Melody Club) to sing on one of Christian’s
instrumental songs. The day after the demo version of ”My girl and I” was
finished. They started to make songs at a daily basis in Nicklas’ studio where
Christian’s love for monotone synth melted together with Nicklas’ pophits.
One day Nicklas sold his Fender guitar and the band Kite was born.

New stuff from John Foxx and Blancmange

August 22, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on New stuff from John Foxx and Blancmange

September 22 we will get a new collection by John Foxx from label Demon/Edsel. “Glimmer: The Best of John Foxx” will be a double-CD with material from his entire career including singles, album tracks, re-works of old Ultravox tracks, new remixes and his ambient “Cathedral Oceans” project. That project is also going to be re-released by the same label in 2009 and 2010.

And they don’t stop there, classic synthpop duo Blancmange will have their albums “Happy Families”, “Mange Tout” and “Believe You Me” released in new, fresh versions. The exact date is not set as of now, but it’s clear that they will all include the 12” mixes and some B-sides. The band is also said to be working on new material.

John Foxx performing “Plaza” at Cargo in London with Louis Gordon on 08.10.07 as part of a performance of the entire Metamatic album including related tracks.

And of course and old Blancmange video:

Here is the last video from the Blancmange Video 45 VHS. This is Living on the Ceiling. Classic synthpop from a band that disappeared but now is back. Check out their stuff on MySpace. I wonder if they have their own website… should check on that.

Japanese synthpop weekend treat

June 13, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Japanese synthpop weekend treat

Should I laugh or cry, judge for yourself – I think I like it though

Aural Vampire (yes, it’s a play on “oral”) is a Tokyo duo that churns out the most scrumptious Electropop/Darkwave. Think 80s-influenced female-fronted synth (Ladytron, Metric) with a bite of dark/glam industrial (Rammstein).

Want to try out some old drum machines??

June 12, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Want to try out some old drum machines??

Than check this page out, it is really nice. It is not new but if you haven´t seen it before :-)

They have recreated some of the Drum Machines from the Audio Playground Museum. The virtual machines run with Shockwave/Flash so if don’t have the flash plugin for your web browser you will not be able to see and run the drum machines.

The machines are as close to the real thing as they could get them (so far). Some are large files and can take a few minuets to download others are smaller and only take a few seconds to download.

Here is one sample of what you can find:

The Eletro-Harmonix Rhythm 12 Virtual Drum Machine Ver. 1.0
