Die Tiefe (Dense Forest experimental instrument)
“Minimalism pure, but not in the length 😉
Basicly this track should be only a basic track for a new song, but when i listen and listen and listen i always think that’s well as it is for deep relaxion. Maybe only a few of you will view the whole clip without falling asleep 😉
Thr Dense Forest is an experimental instrument which i got via etsy.com. I connected it only to the Jomox T-Resonator which is running in a self-oszillating status. That’s all. Only the later starting noise comes from my A-100 System.”
WaveShaper – Create unique sound effects using any audio file!
WaveShaper is an audio synthesis app that lets you control a unique sound generating algorithm using a large XY controller. Use two fingers to control four parameters in real-time. This app is full of surprises and will create sounds unlike any you might create in a typical sound design plugin!
“Sound designers and electronic music producers are always on the look out for new noise makers to use for one-off special effects in our projects, but rarely do we come across something that feels like a one stop shop for all noise making needs. Well, when I need noise for a sound design project, now I grab my iPad and load up WaveShaper.
I’ve been using WaveShaper for a few months now and already used it to do around 80% of the source material in a sci-fi action video game. It really excels at futuristic sounds like energy fields, gravity manipulators, computer terminals, space helicopters, tears in the fabric of the space-time continuum… Oh, and run it through a reverb filter bank with the right source file, you can make some super creepy horror ambiences.
WaveShaper gives you a bunch of source files to play with, but it’s super easy to add in your own or create new ones right from within the app. Being able to see the waveform of your source file and control exactly what sections of the file you’re hearing allows for some real expressive live playability. I suggest using source files with a lot of dynamic and tonal variety for the most expressive live setup. Of course you can choose different source files without interrupting playback, so there are no limits.
If you’re into turntablism record scratch style sounds, but want something a little more future sounding, try some source of people talking or singing and use the red noise mode. I’ve made source that sounds like the best scratch DJ ever going nuts on eight turntables at once.
Oh and if you have a good subwoofer, you can bring the house down around you with this app.” – Bobby Arlauskas, Sound Designer, GL33k game audio
Features of WaveShaper include:
- white, pink, and red noise as a control source for the algorithm
- two control points for controlling noise generation and location in the source audio

Sound manipulation – The Tetrafol
Built with the monome creators (Brian Crabtree and Kelli Cain) and LA research and experimentation center Machine Project, the Tetrafol is a custom, pyramidal sound device. The object warps Fol Chen’s music using gestural manipulation of playback, but can also use your own samples. And with open-source circuit and firmware, the project could be an opportunity to learn or to build your own creation.
Description:
The Tetrafol is a hand-held tangible electronic sound toy. Circuits enclosed by a wooden tetrahedron detect orientation and motion-gestures to modify the playback of a collection of Fol Chen’s micro-compositions, allowing the user to explore sound through physical manipulation.
The battery-powered device has its own internal speaker but can additionally be hooked up to a headphone or amplifier.
The circuit and firmware are based on open-source hardware and is itself published as open-source, allowing anyone interested to learn about its deepest inner-workings.
A Particle Magnetophone – free unique musical instrument
No need to touch anything.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/a-particle-magnetophone/id485278828
Description:
Let me introduce you one of the best innovative iPad/iPhone apps, which brings a totally new concept of a touch-less, audio-visual application that literally make music in the air and visual effects at the same time. The audio control of generating sound can be compared to the theremin. The trick is that you need not to move or touch your device.
The application uses a combination of the magnetic sensor, great graphic possibilities, and marvelous sound which are offered by iPad/iPhone and iOS. The magnetic sensor is placed just around the biohazard sign on the app’s view, so closer you get with a magnetic stuff the higher tones are generating. By included keyboard you can determinate in which musical scale will magnetic fields play sounds.
The sounds are very suitable for music like funky, dub step, electro, trip hop, noise, and many more.
So just grab some magnetic, metaled stuff or get closer to them by upper-right corner of your device and try out.
Use:
– unique musical instrument
– the most impressive metal detector ever
– practical tool to teach/learn how physics or music works
– magician’s tool, to make illusion of a magical hand
Features:
– uses 3D space around magnetic sensor to make sounds and animations, touch-less control
– up to 5 octaves available (depends how strong magnet is)
– change speed or variation of particle animation sequences
– change particle size of animation sequences
– variety of 5 synth instruments simulating sound of organ, human voice, clarinet, flute and
saxophone
– tune color or vibrato of the generating tone
– change sound volume
– set your own musical scale by the virtual keyboard to be played
– save your settings
– play along with your music library or on the background while playing another touchable or shakeable instrument (more feasible for dual-core devices)
– designed for iPad2, but iPhone version included
Experiment using an Opal Chameleon
“This video shows an experiment using my Opal Chameleon sending MIDI data, through Disarray, to M and, from there, to Spectrasonics Omnisphere, through Logic Pro. The tuning system is Carlos Alpha.”
Read my blog for details: http://www.seraph.it/blog_files/def789d378b3b72969210e2755e29369-118.html
Keys and velocity
The keys are weighted and velocity-sensitive. There are 8 velocity settings and 32 weight settings. A pedal (included) adds further real-time control of velocity settings. The velocity switches are activated near the bottom of the key-press, giving a high degree of control and response. The key-return mechanism is positive, while light enough for fast playing without strain to wrists, hands and fingers.
Menu systen
The controls include a menu of 16 tunings including rotations and reversals of the original note pattern (Melodic Table), plus a separate menu of 100 pantonal serial progressions and 42 user-definable tunings. The 3 zones can be altered in enough ways for the possible combinations to number over 1 billion. However, the menu system is very user-friendly; a single data knob just below the LCD scrolls through all the options for each control button.
MIDI
Opal has the most comprehensive MIDI hub available on any keyboard and is compatible with all DAWs, MIDI Keyboards, synths and sound modules, old & new. There are 4 MIDI sockets; 3 are assignable and the 4th sends all MIDI. Therefore the three keyboard splits can be sent directly to different instruments without the need for a computer or some other interface to do the MIDI channel routing.
Electronic instruments – Gravilux for Android
http://snibbe.com/store/gravilux
Gravilux lets you draw with stars: it’s a combination of painting, animation, art, science, and gaming. As you touch Gravilux’s screen, gravity draws simulated stars to your fingertips. You can tease and twist the particles into galaxies, or explode them like a supernova. You can color stars by their speed, change the strength of gravity, number of stars, their color, and even enable antigravity. Multiple fingers and multiple people can touch the screen at once, collaborating or competing. Gravilux was first released as a work of interactive art by Scott Snibbe Studio that was only available in galleries and museums. Now it’s available as an Android application.
“Apps like Gravilux awaken an ‘Avatar’-like sensitivity to electricity in the body, power in the palms and general connectedness.” – NY Times
“Every once in a while, an app will come along that has no practical application whatsoever but is just SO COOL that you have to have it! Gravilux is that sort of app.” –iphoneapplicationlist.com
“Of the millions of apps out there, none quite capitalize on the sheer fun and beauty of interactivity the way that Scott Snibbe’s do.” –CoolHunting
