Apartment Music #11 was the second in a series curated by Hal McGee (Gainesville, FL) which featured live streaming video, plus two performers from remote locations. Otolathe broadcasting from Tampa, FL was one of these remote performers, and the other was Otto von Rhinau and Friends from Strasbourg, France. The show also featured Andrew Weathers & Hal McGee, Adam Scott Neal, Andrew Chadwick, Christopher Nadeau, Keahota Hota, Lumen Kishkumen, and Nicholas Rejack.
PocoPoco Live jamming in downtown Tokyo
Pocopoco is a new musical interface that users can control by pushing, holding and turning – very intuitive and tactile actions. To create Pocopoco we developed original solenoid units with built-in sensors and assembled 16 of them in a box-shaped container to serve as a universal input/output device.
Through the use of their up and down movement we have created a new form of musical expression. The resulting device is a versatile interface whose physical movement is appealing to both performers and audiences and which also has the potential to be used in a wide range of other applications including games and telecommunications.
Users can play music with PocoPoco very easily just by “pushing”, “holding ” and “turning” its cylinders . When a user “Pushes” on top of a cylinder, a sequencer switch is flipped to the “on” position causing the cylinder to rise and a sound to play at regular intervals. “Holding” a raised cylinder prolongs the note being played like the sustain pedal of a piano. “Turning” a cylinder affects the instrument’s tone in various ways (e.g. volume control, filters, pitch
bend) .
PocoPoco is very easy to play even for children and beginners with no musical experience, but at the same time it is also a sophisticated device that can be used to create compelling performances.

The Graphical user interface has been designed by renowned GUI designer Anders Hedstrom(Flavours of Lime) who has done an amzing job creating the front panels and user interface. There are lots of great sounds from sound design guru Ingo Weidner who has made a batch of great sounds for the Jen sx3000-there are also sounds from Synth Magic. Over 130 presets plus random preset generator-Easily create new and exciting presets by pressing one button.
We sampled our Jen SX1000, every note, every octave to give half a Gigabyte of Jen samples(411MB zipped)and added a few twists ourselves such as interval generators, sub oscilators ,lots of effects and best of all we added our custom sequencer which has undergone a major revamp and can now store and read a number of patterns for instant playback. Sequencer can now store a number of patterns and recall them instantly,allowing you to build up your compositions. We also added random sequence generator-at the touch of a button a completly new pattern will be created and random cutoff and resonance patterns too-Very inspirational and the source of hours of fun and great patterns.
The synth section also has aftertouch to vibrato and aftertouch to filter cutoff to allow for some really great expressive sounds.

The mobile version of IK’s SampleTank is now available
IK Multimedia has introduced SampleTank for IOS – the mobile version of IK’s SampleTank for Mac and PC.

Synapse is an app for Mac and Windows that allows you to easily use your Kinect to control Ableton Live, Quartz Composer, Max/MSP/Jitter, and any other application that can receive OSC events. It sends joint positions and hit events via OSC, and also sends the depth image into Quartz Composer. In a way, this allows you to use your whole body as an instrument.

The Misa digital guitar is an experimental new instrument, similar to an electric guitar in shape, but with an interface designed to easily and intuitively control digital audio.
Most musicians today use some form of audio synthesis or sampling in their music. Virtually any type of sound can be created using these methods. Traditionally, digital piano keyboards have been the dominant instrument for controlling these sounds real-time in a musical setting.
At Misa, we provide a new instrument that not only unites traditional guitar playing technique with digital sound, but allows digital guitarists to use playing techniques that are not possible or comfortable on a digital keyboard.
How it works:
The Misa Kitara consists of three main components: a full fretboard, a multi-touch screen and an onboard polyphonic synthesizer with sounds and effects. The kitara’s neck has 24 frets, but instead of strings each fret contains buttons. You play notes by touching on the screen. The position and movement of your touch determine how the sound is generated and processed. You can apply a number of digital effects, including distortion, delay and modulation, and you can control these effects through the touch panel interface. You can save sounds as presets, and you can swap preset files online. You can assign one sound to all six strings, or assign different sounds to different strings. The kitara can control compatible MIDI devices too. Everything is configurable. It runs Linux and is open source.

New open source digital musical instrument
Illusio is an open source digital musical instrument that allows the control of real-time recorded loops through collaborative and ludic performances based on relationships between sketches and sounds.
Developed in Processing and Openframeworks, it mixes multitouch technologies with the interaction metaphor of guitar pedals.
Concept and development by Jeraman, finalized in 2011.
