Noise and more electronic noise
Elusive Austrians Steinklang Industries are back in a big way with no less than 4 new releases spewing forth. The first is a biggun, an ode to the Japan noise scene called “Japanoise of Death II”. Like the name suggests, this is the second iteration of the regional noise compilation and features notables like Guilty Connector, Dissecting Table, Incapactiants and a wack more of both grizzled and fresh faces. Making things more interesting is a special laser etched metal box edition which combines both editions of the comp (the original was only available as a limited vinyl or CDR).
Continuing with Japan, we then have HIROSHI HASEGAWA‘s “Ascension No.999”. This one is a CD with a run of 500 that combines “experimental cut-up noise, over droning sound-walls” with “screaming high frequency manipulations” during its 50 minutes. If that doesn’t do it for you (or you still have cash left) “Rotten sarkoma” is the title of CDR from SCRELOMA which combines two of the best things in this mean old world: “harsh noises and heavy Power Electronics”. You can expect “concrete or sublime rhythms” recorded in analogue with a runtime of 61 min.

Finally, a week from now seminal release hog Dissecting Table gets yet another notch in his belt with “Early studio works 1986/87″, a CD collating earlier material from his first LP and 7” plus 5 previously unreleased tracks. The disc comes wrapped in an A3 sized poster and lands on April 17. MP3s have been posted for these releases so suck up some bandwidth already.

Oblong Industries is the developer of the g-speak spatial operating environment.
The SOE’s combination of gestural i/o, recombinant networking, and real-world pixels brings the first major step in computer interface since 1984; starting today, g-speak will fundamentally change the way people use machines at work, in the living room, in conference rooms, in vehicles. The g-speak platform is a complete application development and execution environment that redresses the dire constriction of human intent imposed by traditional GUIs. Its idiom of spatial immediacy and information responsive to real-world geometry enables a necessary new kind of work: data-intensive, embodied, real-time, predicated on universal human expertise.
Some of the SOE’s core ideas are already familiar from the film Minority Report, whose characters performed forensic analysis using massive, gesturally driven displays. The similarity is no coincidence: one of Oblong’s founders served as science advisor to Minority Report and based the design of those scenes directly on his earlier work at MIT. Other foundational components are less directly visible but as crucially transformative. The g-speak platform braids development arcs begun in the early 1990s at MIT’s Media Laboratory, where Oblong’s principals produced radical user interface advances, distributed and networked language designs, and media manipulation technologies.
From academia; into popular cinema; and out broadly into the world as commercial product: it’s an unordinary path for technical thought and effort, but one — leading to g-speak — that seems now logical and even necessary. The people who work in Oblong’s Los Angeles and Barcelona laboratory offices are as concerned with design as with programming, with humanist principles as with running a company. Synthesizing these concerns is the only way to insure that the metamorphosis of human-computer interaction we offer the world will be one of beauty and durable worth.

Exhibition: Magical Sound Machines
The exhibition MAGICAL SOUND MACHINES relates the (hi)stories of sound generators, sound recorders and sound transmitters. The extensive presentation will kiss awake ariston, mellotron, rhythmicon and many other, partly forgotten sound machines from their hundred-year sleep so that young and old, the general public and experts alike can experience and enjoy them on an interactive discovery tour.
MAGICAL SOUND MACHINES is an exhibition against oblivion. By means of the objects displayed the IMA Institute of Media Archaeology traces an exemplary history of our media age, with special attention being paid to technical as well as musical and artistic developments. The exhibited objects enchant with their (hi)stories, design and the visions connected to them and their inventors and users.

Jean Michel Jarre on tour in Scandinavia…
…and best of all, he will not go with his more recent ambient electro stuff, but rather make a show covering the gross part of the Oxygene album :-). Which in my mind is one of his best, after Zoolook I stopped purchasing his later stuff, which I believe was noteven close to his previous work.

Tillsammans med tre musiker och femtio synthesizers kommer franske Jean Michel Jarre till Sverige för en konsert. Den legendariske pionjären inom den elektroniska musiken ska framföra hela repertoaren från albumet “Oxygene” på Cirkus i Stockholm den 4 april.
Jean Michel Jarre är just nu aktuell med en nyinspelning av albumet som har 30 år på nacken och sålt i drygt 12 miljoner exemplar sedan det kom ut 1977. Fransmannen började sin musikkarriär på 1970-talet och hans första fullängsalbum “Deserted Palace” kom ut 1972.
Han är känd för sina stora utomhuskonserter och hans senaste spelningar i Sverige hölls 1997.
Den 4 februari släpps biljetterna till Cirkuskonserten.
VFX Nostalgia – Remember "Dark Ware"
DarkWare products were produced from June’05 till December’05. The first public DarkWare release was El Fuego, the last public Darkware release was Glitch Jockey (arguably The Nightmare Machine could be considered the final release). DarkWare products were featured in a variety of electronic music software magazines (Computer Music, Future Music, DTMM, etc.), and quickly amassed a cult following. However, after nearly 30 DarkWare releases, Jack got tired of producing freeware VST. Thusly in January ’06, Jack ended DarkWare permanently so he could start selling commercial VST called NOVUZEIT.

For once I feel lost in space – Kenji Siratori
I must admit to everyone that I had never heard of this dude before (until today), when I saw that Wreathy (a new swedish elctro act) had a quote from this guy in one of their new songs. Below you find a description of him taken from myspace:
Kenji Siratori: a Japanese cyberpunk writer who is currently bombarding the internet with wave upon wave of highly experimental, uncompromising, progressive, intense prose. His is a writing style that not only breaks with tradition, it severs all cords, and can only really be compared to the kind of experimental writing techniques employed by the Surrealists, William Burroughs and Antonin Artaud. However, I do have some rumors about this guy – that it isn´t actually one guy, but a collective of people. Not sure if this is true, but it would certainly explain the quantity of “bullshit” eminating from this source
