Pro-Q 2 – new version of Fab Filters’ equalizer effect plug

August 29, 2014 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Pro-Q 2 – new version of Fab Filters’ equalizer effect plug

fabfilter_proeq2_thumb

FabFilter has released Pro-Q 2, an updated version of its equalizer effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.

Here are all the details:

Completely redesigned EQ engine

For Pro-Q 2, FabFilter has completely redesigned the internal filter engine from the ground up — not only improving the existing Zero Latency and Linear Phase processing modes, but also introducing a unique Natural Phase mode. Besides perfectly matching the magnitude response of analog EQ’ing, Natural Phase also closely matches the analog phase response, without introducing noticeable pre-ring or a long latency. Last but not least, FabFilter Pro-Q 2 is more than twice as CPU-efficient as its predecessor.

Universal filter slope support

Very steep filter slopes of up to 96 dB/octave are now available, and, uniquely, FabFilter Pro-Q 2 lets users change the slope of any filter type — not just the usual Low/High Cut filters. This makes it possible to create super-narrow bell filters, very steep or gently sloping shelves, and more. In addition to the existing Bell, Low/High Shelf, Low/High Cut, and Notch filters, Pro-Q 2 also features new Band-Pass and Tilt Shelf filter types.

More interface innovations

Furthermore, FabFilter Pro-Q 2 is boosted by an abundance of user interface innovations. Spectrum Grab enables users to directly adjust peaks in the real-time spectrum analyzer display. Pro-Q 2 offers flexible interface resizing, in addition to a Full Screen mode that makes it easier than ever to do ultra-precise adjustments. EQ Match lets users match the spectrum of another track in just a few seconds. All this power is neatly integrated into a gorgeous, uncluttered interface that lets users focus freely on music and workflow.

Original and trailblazing

Of course, Pro-Q 2 features everything that was great about the original Pro-Q — up to 24 EQ bands, innovative interface with unsurpassed workflow and multi-band selection, per-channel EQ’ing in L/R or M/S mode, real-time spectrum analyzer, intelligent solo mode, double-click text entry, stereo/mono plug-ins, Pro Tools hardware surface support — as well as all the trailblazing FabFilter bells and whistles that users have come to expect and love — perfectly fine-tuned knobs and controllers, GPU-powered graphics acceleration, interactive MIDI Learn, undo/redo and A/B switch, Smart Parameter Interpolation for smooth parameter transitions, an extensive help file with interactive help hints, sample-accurate automation, advanced optimization, and more.

New in Pro-Q 2

  • Different interface sizes and additional Full Screen mode.
  • Operates in zero latency mode, linear phase mode with adjustable latency or the unique Natural Phase mode.
  • Spectrum Grab: just grab and adjust a peak in the real-time spectrum analyzer right away!.
  • Filter shapes: Bell, Notch, High/Low Shelf, High/Low Cut, Band Pass, Tilt Shelf.
  • Universal filter slope support for all filter types, up to 96 dB/oct.
  • EQ Match feature to automatically match the spectrum of another track via the side-chain input.
  • Phase Invert option to change polarity.
  • Highly improved CPU optimization: Pro-Q 2 uses less memory and is more than twice as efficient as its predecessor!.
  • Optional Gain-Q interaction.
  • Auto Gain and Gain Scale.
  • Built-in spectrum analyzer with Pre-EQ, Post-EQ and SC modes, adjustable range, speed, resolution, tilt and freeze.
  • Optional piano roll display to quantize EQ frequencies to musical notes.
  • Large output level meter with peak level readout.

FabFilter Pro-Q 2 for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/AAX/AudioSuite) is available for purchase for 149 EUR/$199 USD/£124 GBP. Bundles with FabFilter Pro-Q 2 and other FabFilter plug-ins are also available. Existing FabFilter customers can purchase or upgrade to Pro-Q 2 with a discount from their online user accounts.

Reason Rack Extension: EVE-AT1 and EVE-AT4 classic british equalizers

April 12, 2014 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Reason Rack Extension: EVE-AT1 and EVE-AT4 classic british equalizers

kuassa_eveatre_thumb

Kuassa has announced the release of EVE-AT1 and EVE-AT4 classic british equalizers, two new Rack Extension plug-ins for Propellerhead Reason 6.5 and later.

Offered at $39 $29 (Anniversary Sale, 25% discount still applies until April 21st) each, both AT1 and AT4 were inspired by the design of the legendary Neve* 1081 and 1084 that are known for their clear, smooth, and very musical characteristics.

We are thrilled by the sound and present these EQs as a modern tribute, designed with simplicity and clarity in mind for immediate productivity. Although they share certain tonal characteristics, the EVE-AT1 and EVE-AT4 reveal their differences in the details.

EVE-AT1/AT4 features

  • EVE-AT1: is a 4-band parametric equalizer with an additional high-pass and low-pass filter. Inspired by the EQ section of a renowned British Classic –the Neve* 1081 –this equalizer delivers a clear, smooth, and musical sound to shape your tracks. The EVE-AT1 posseses an additional parametric band with expanded Q bandwidth selection in the low-mid and high-mid frequency ranges as compared to the EVE-AT4. In addition, the AT1 impelements a different high-pass and low-pass filter, giving the AT1 a slightly more conventional frequency response in these areas. These characteristics mean the EVE-AT1 is suitable for a broad range of musical applications, offering flexibility, versatility and all-round utility.
  • EVE-AT4: EVE-AT4 is a 3-band equalizer with an additional high-pass and low-pass filter. Designed as a tribute to the EQ section of the Neve* 1084, which was created as the successor to the legendary Neve* 1073. Although the EVE-AT4 possesses fewer bands, a smaller frequency selection palette, and less Q bandwidth selection options as compared to the EVE-AT1, its strength lies in its unique filter implementation, producing an idiosyncratic frequency response not present on the EVE-AT1. The result is a particular tonal character; the sound and tonal shape of its original incarnation is a hallmark of many classic recordings from the 70s.

The EVE-AT series Rack Extensions are available from the Propellerhead shop.

iQ Audio Plug In Demo

February 28, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on iQ Audio Plug In Demo

EAR MACHINE LAUNCHES iQ

Equalizer plug-in learns the sound you like

Ear Machine today unveiled iQ, an equalizer plug-in designed to learn the user’s preference. iQ recommends equalizer settings by analyzing user ratings of examples. The result is displayed in a traditional equalizer window where users can fine-tune the recommendation.

“The idea for iQ came during a recording session when a client asked me to make the vocal track sound ‘buttery’,” said Andrew Sabin, Ear Machine owner and psychoacoustics researcher. “The client knew what he wanted, but wasn’t able to describe the settings that he was after. We designed iQ to help engineers communicate more easily with their clients, and to help beginning audio engineers figure out the sound they’re looking for.”

With iQ, users indicate how much they like each of a series of example settings by arranging dots from left to right, where each dot represents a different EQ setting. iQ uses a model of auditory perception to gradually hone in on the user’s preference. A meter at the bottom of the window indicates when iQ thinks it has learned what the user wants. The user then clicks “Create EQ” and iQ’s recommendation is displayed in a traditional equalizer window. Users can also double click any dot to display it in the equalizer window.

iQ is the first audio plug-in that is designed to learn a user’s preference. Ear Machine recently launched a related free web app (myMicSound) that is designed to learn a user’s preferred microphone characteristics.

iQ is compatible with AU hosts or VST hosts on the Mac or PC, and is compatible with RTAS wrappers.

See www.ear-machine.com/iQ.html to watch a video, purchase the plug-in, or download a free demo.
