Human League 1978, very much of a Kraftwerk influence going on. Just a little darker.

Ralf And Florian: the Kraftwerk sitcom

April 13, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Ralf And Florian: the Kraftwerk sitcom

Just discovered in a Dusseldorf car boot sale is this rare pilot for the uncommissioned Kraftwerk sitcom, “Ralf and Florian”.

Shame it never made it, as Ralf Hutter has great comic timing and could have been the next Alf Garnet.

Zynic will release its debut album “Fire Walk With Me” – in the spirit of classic synthpop acts

April 13, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Zynic will release its debut album “Fire Walk With Me” – in the spirit of classic synthpop acts

Electropop act Zynic will release its debut album “Fire Walk With Me” at the end of the month. On the 29th to be precise.

The album will be released as a limited edition of 500 copies through German label Conzoom Records. This edition will feature 4 exclusive bonustracks, remixed by famous artists like Assemblage 23, Iris, People Theatre and Parralox.

Zynic wants to carry the spirit of the 80′s into tomorrow’s sound. Classic acts like Yazoo, Japan, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and OMD were always a big influence on Zynics way of creating his own tunes. And so there is one special highlight on the cd edition of “Fire Walk With Me”. It is a cover version of the classic Depeche Mode hit “Any Second Now”. According to the label, Zynic has covered the song very emotional and with a cool electronic bassline – so it might be one of the best Depeche Mode cover versions that were ever done so far.

Emulating the sound of Kraftwerk on Alesis

Alesis vs Kraftwerk is an A/B composition showing how you can emulate the Kraftwerk track Boing Boom Tschak using LM-1 Bass Drum pitched down, LinnDrum Snare 23, Linn LM-1 hand clap pitched down and Linn LM-1 tambourine pitch high and normal. I think you can work out the transition points!

Japanese Kraftwerk, sorry Kraftgirls

April 8, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Japanese Kraftwerk, sorry Kraftgirls

Edited version of the Audio-Visual Live Performance by Craftwife + Kaseo + (by Craftwife, Kaseo, sy8) at Make Ogaki Meeting, Japan. We’re using self-developed system. ( bended pikachx toys, voltage-controlled fluorescent lamps, SuperCollider, QuartzComposer + VDMX, LED ties, Modular Synthesizer, cv to midi circuits for visual control etc…)

Craftwife brings 70-80’s style techno pop and was formed in the Summer of 2008. The band’s image reminds a lot of Kraftwerk (though in a miniskirt) and its female members are using iPhones to control self-developed sound synthesis programs and video sampling systems.

Apart from performing live, the band also released an iPhone app, a rather odd one we must say. In the app – developed ‘of the housewifes, by the housewifes, for the housewives’ as the band claims – a certain Wife-Chan brings you tips ‘on household chores’ to make your daily life that bit happier. The messages are only in Japanese though, so we have no clue if they kinda would have worked for us. Wife-Chan has over 200 tips, blinks and tells (Japanese) jokes as well (sometimes that is). Interested? You can get this free app right here.

Free Karl Bartos (ex Kraftwerk) iPhone app available

April 6, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Free Karl Bartos (ex Kraftwerk) iPhone app available

Karl Bartos (ex-Kraftwerk) and Masayuki Akamatsu (media artist and author of various iPhone apps such as Banner, Oscillator, Echochops) have created an iPhone app, ‘The Mini-Composer’, which is actually a 16-step music sequencer (you can get it for free right here). Executive producer for the app is Jean-Marc Lederman (The Weatherman + partner in Sushi crime in Brussels with our chief editor Bernard Van Isacker).

In a reaction Karl Bartos says: “We have created this simple music app for fun: it implements the basic waves of a synthesizer with a 16-step sequencer. This app is totally free of charge but we would be very glad if, as a relief to people’s suffering following the earthquake and tsunami, you would consider a donation to lend a helping hand to Japan. Please enjoy our music and think Japan.”

The application has the following functions:

  1. 16 steps sequencer
  2. Start/stop sequence
  3. Multi-touch note input
  4. 32 polyphonic tones + 1 drum track
  5. 4 waves (saw, triangular, square, sine)
  6. 4 drumbeat loops
  7. Drums on/off
  8. Random notes
  9. Clear notes
  10. Additional information

The app offers you the possibility to create loops with Kraftwerk’s trademark kling klang sounds. In order for users to see the possibilities of this app, they have now released a demo video. Albeit the lack of Kraftwerk sounds this is a nice demo:
