Yamaha proudly unveil the next chapter in the Motif story with the phenomenal MOX 6 and MOX 8 Music Production Synthesizers – feature packed professional instruments that bring Yamaha acclaimed Motif XS Sound Engine capability to music makers on a budget.
Both models offer over 1200 superb voices and over 350 MB of waveforms from the Motif XS, these sounds can be further enhanced and edited with Yamaha’s exclusive XA (Expanded Articulation) technology and the Virtual Circuitry Modeling capability which are perfect for recreating entirely new or classic vintage synth sounds.
Both models are ‘complete’ music making instruments, easy to use, they offer everything you need to create complete soundtracks, with an onboard comprehensive and powerful real or step time multi track sequencer combined with 6720 arpeggiator patterns creative flexibility is almost unrivalled.
Recording and audio power is further enhanced via the bundled YC-3B Organ Emulator soft synth, Steinberg Prologue analog synth and Cubase AI. The Telekinetic Conductor
Short video of a telekinetic conductor, hand positions and orientation are tracked with a Kinect and 2 Wiimotes.
The conductor controls multiple orbs in 2D space using hand movements to attract the different orbs; thus using a virtual telekinetic force the user can control these orbs. The position of these orbs then gets converted into midi signals that can be used to control a synthesizer. In the video attached a midi track is being played into NI’s Massive synth and all 8 dials on the synthesizer are being controlled at once, using different controllers it is quite possible to control up to 20 parameters at once.
Being able to control hundreds of parameters at once is all well and good; however this device adds something extra. When someone uses this device they automatically find themselves dancing or conducting (dependent on the music type) in order to control the music properly, in fact if you don’t dance you don’t get the right timing.
The functionality is not limited to one machine either; each component connects to a server via TCP/IP so collaboration / jamming can take place over the internet.

Adam Szabo has announced the release of JP6K , a virtual synthesizer instrument for Windows. JP6K is a synth dedicated to emulating the famous Super Saw sound, first found in the Roland JP-8000 synthesizer in 1997.

JP6K is a synth dedicated to emulating the famous Super Saw sound, first found in the Roland JP-8000 synthesizer in 1997. It aims to capture the essence of the sound and the behaviour of the original oscillator. Even after a decade, the Super Saw is still sought after by people all around the world, and is a crucial part of such music genres like Trance.
JP6K features
- 32 voice polyphony.
- Two Super Saw oscillators, an upper and lower.
- 1 noise oscillator.
- Three filter modes: low pass, band pass and high pass with -12 & -24 dB/Oct.

Ziggybox – the ashtray synth :-)

At first glance, Ziggybox looks like an everyday item for smokers, which one could easily find in a living room. However, it is a synthesizer that generates and modulates sounds by placing cigarettes in the notch of an ashtray or by opening a box of cigarettes.
Through simple handling and without any prior knowledge of sound synthesis, Ziggybox enables the user to produce complex levels of synthesized music.
The aim of this project is to enable access and control of a complex, digital environment, which is not usually transparent and under-standable for the common visitor. Our intention is to show that it is possible to conceptualize the creative utilisation of computer software in a casual way, by an interface, which initially seems to be unsophisticated in its manipulation. With this, the user is able to easily approach and control the system functionality of Ziggybox.
As the use of everyday objects are familiar to all, the interface serves as an open and easily approachable invitation for use. With this type of interface, where digital and physical boarders are blurred, it helps to open up a new relationship between technology and humans.
The project utilised C++ and Open Frameworks as the basic platform. The characteristics of the sounds are changed by frequency and amplitude modulation, while the light-sensors control the sound synthesis. Our intention is also to give
the colour arrangement a special importance and the objects on the box are arranged in order to reinforce the possibility of interaction with common objects.

Coming soon – RAZOR by Errorsmith & Native Instruments
Native Instruments released this teaser video for a new synth, Razor, developed in collaboration with Berlin-based producer Errorsmith. They’re hyping it as a dubstep synth, but it’s a hybrid additive synthesizer with built-in tempo-synced effects.
“Razor is a synthesizer i developed in collaboration with Native Instruments,” says Errorsmith. “It’s programmed in Reaktor, a modular software synthesizer. You don’t need to own Reaktor in order to use it. Razor can be loaded in the free Reaktor Player software.”

It’s not a big secret, that we are working on a synthesizer that we will present at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt (6th to 9th April 2011). And it’s also no secret that it will be the successor of the discontinued PerFourMer, so it is very likely that our new baby will carry the same name “PerFourMer”, possibly followed by a “2″.
You can listen to some sounds generated by the prototype. Please don’t judge the musical value, it’s just a simple sequence and some knob tweaking on the synth.
