Vintage is a new synth that brings the old school sound from the classic big old synthesizers directly to you: Atmospheres, Strings, Organ and Synthetic Voices that sound human, not electronic.

Virtual tonewheel organ
Wildnoise has released WildOrgan, a virtual tonewheel organ instrument plugin for Windows.
The WildOrgan is a virtual Organ-simulation, which can emulate various organ types. An extensive set of controls is available and 50 presets are included already.
The plugin can be used with VST hosts and is suitable for use wit hthe OpenArt-System. In addition to the regular user interface all functions can be controller via a MIDI controller. The controller layout can be configured for optimal usage.

Fancy a 6 oscillator synth?
Filthpig is a monstrous, six oscillator hybrid synthesizer with an extreme potential for tweakability. Geared towards drones, noise, sirens and circuit-bent style glitching, Filthpig employs two full, three oscillator synth sections — one to produce sound and the other to act as a dedicated modulation source. Each section contains two tuning controls, a modulation depth knob, a waveform selector (five waveforms) and an amplitude envelope for each oscillator as well as a 3 x 3 modulation matrix that lets the output of any oscillator modulate any other oscillator (including itself). These modulation matrices also contain sync switches, and the modulator part of the synth also links oscillator output to the pitch values for the sound-producing section. Although a monosynth at heart, Filthpig also has the ability to be switched into a three voice poly mode for added functionality, and also has two cascaded filters (hicut and then locut) for tone shaping. Whether you are an experimentalist or just like crazy sounds, Filthpig is sure to crawl out of the garbage can and into your heart (where it will undoubtedly lay eggs and die).

reFuse Software has released a new, free synthesizer called The Swarm. Here’s what they have to say about it…
This project was inspired by the Swarmatron, a hardware drone synth, handmade by Dewanatron.
It was the Swarmatron that created many of the buzzing clouds of anxiety-provoking noise used by Trent Reznor in his Oscar-winning score for “The Social Network”. Since we were curious what it would be like to play such an instrument, yet didn’t have the $3200 laying around, we thought we’d build something like it in software, and share it with you.
The Swarm is released as an OS X standalone application only. It is not available as a plug-in, but the audio output of the The Swarm may be sent to ReWire-compatible host applications.

The synthesizer that does not exist
IMAGINARY SYNTHS episode 1, Alpha JUNO-8
This synth exists only in in my imagination! I wanted to imagine, and replicate what an 8 part multitimbral Alpha Juno would sound like. In fact, if it did exist, here’s a small audio demo of what it actually would sound like. Play it in HD to do it justice!
Using only my Alpha Juno 2, the first pad part was recorded in Pro Tools playing manually to a click, on 8 individual passes.
The second part was created using MIDI sequencing in Pro Tools. I laid down a simple MIDI arpeggio and started recording the audio parts 1 stereo track at a time, each with their own “on the fly” modulations.
The oscillator de-tuning was accomplished by simply de-tuning using the Tune/function button while tweaking the root pitch with the alpha dial in real-time on a few of the audio passes . The “reversed” arpeggio sections were simple audio edits to the stereo mixdown.
I’ve always loved this synth, with it’s unique rich sound. Now I love it even more
as an 8 part multitimbral (albeit imagined, but possible to replicate) SYNTH BEAST!

Xenos Soundworks has announced the release of Quantum Consiousness, a sound bank for the Vanguard virtual synthesizer plug-in by reFX.
Quantum Consiousness contains 140 sounds for a wide variety of musical genres – Techno, DnB, Industrial, Ambient, Big Beat, etc.
This soundset is a former Pro-Sounds release created back in 2006. I have made some slight improvements and re-released it under the Xenos Soundworks brand.
