Free virtual analog instruments for Windows
Roberson Audio has updated their site and released updated versions of three free virtual analog instruments for Windows:
- RA Mowg – The Roberson Audio Synthesizers interpretation of the MiniMoog Model D synthesizer.
- Oddly-Free – The Roberson Audio Synthesizers interpretation of the Arp Odyssey Mk. II synthesizer.
- Prophanity – The Roberson Audio Synthesizers interpretation of the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 synthesizer.
Oddy-Free and Prophanity have been bumped up to version 1.4, and RA Mowg has been updated to version 1.2. The main changes to all have been the filter implementation so that these instruments have a bigger sound to them without being untrue to the original instruments.

Helix is the new Black

Super Sound
Inspired by the “super-saw” of the late nineties, Helix takes the unison-sound to the next level and allow you to make any waveform “super”. This makes Helix capable of huge and wide unison pads and leads. Where many Virtual analogs stops at seven or nine detuned waves for a supersaw, Helix takes the extra step and allow for 16 detuned and panned waves per oscillator. At four oscillators per voice we realize that we can max out our sound at 64 (sixty four) waves per voice. That’s super!
The wave oscillator can do super-wave, and provides start phase control.
Wave-Table-Shaping
Combining the wave-shaping of synths like z3ta+ with the wave-table synthesis of the Prophet VS and the ESQ-1, Helix lets you shape the first and the last waves in a table, the in-between are automatically filled in. The morph control picks the wave to play

Clean Cut
Great care has been taken to ensure no aliasing in the oscillators, so the sound is free from many artifacts traditionally associated with software (and Virtual Analog) synthesizers. This becomes very clear when playing high notes.

Exhilarating Effects and Radical Routing
Helix comes with some built-in effect: Distortion, Flanger/Chorus, Phaser, Delay, Limiter, Reverb, 3 band Eq. The effects can be applied in any order.
Both the Voice architecture and the Effects of Helix follow an approach where a signal can be mixed in or sent to the effect at any point. The result is great freedom on how to apply filters and effects.

POLYKEYS beta
PolyKeys by ASWAVE is a freeware Virtual Analog Polyphonic Softsynth Synthesizer and as been around since 2006 in beta form and is still updated for time to time. filled with a few presets that show the diversity of the vsti plugin and is capable of a who lot more sounds to create another true classic synth from the freeware world of vst plugins instruments and effects.

the most irrating thing about downloading this classic synth is that you have to add a websearch engine to your web browers as homepage or add to tabs before refreshing and downloading this plugin, i say except it and delete later on if you wish

Matrix – the ultimate vocoder?
Inspired by the legendary VSM 201 Vocoder from Sennheiser we´ve spent MATRIX an additional Filter module modelling the analog Sound of the VSM. But to make it even better we´ve extended the filter range by adding two additional filters for the high end and MATRIX got two Filterbanks for stereo operation. MATRIX 2 also comes with a redesigned user interface, some additional presets and we´ve spent an internal noise generator for whisper effects.
The Vocoder was invented by Homer Dudley in the mid-30’s of the last century. Dudley worked at Bell Laboratories, and this is where the first Vocoder took shape.
The basic function of a Vocoder is characterized by an analysis of the input signal, usually speech but other type of inputs can also be very interesting. In a special filter bank, a spectral analysis is performed and signals are developed which follows the amount of spectral energy in each channel. What makes MATRIX 2 different to the vocoders in the past ?
– Precise analog modelling 8-pole filters and extremely fast envelope followers for unprecedented resynthesis quality.
– New voiced/unvoiced detection and pitch extraction algorithms for high intelligibility.

Cableguys updates the Curve
Cableguys has released version 1.1.1 of Curve, a virtual synthesizer instrument for Windows and Mac.
With this update now demo version users of Curve can also add their presets to the preset library. Besides this, the release is all about fixing bugs and flaws

- [Mac] Crash bug, loading VST and AU versions at the same time could lead to crashes.
- [Mac] Waveform editing, double-clicking in the waveform area could behave strange.

Phosphor – vintage digital additive synth
Audio Damage has released Phosphor, a virtual instrument modeled on the alphaSyntauri, a vintage digital additive synth.
The original alphaSyntauri required an Apple //e to operate, but we’ve gone ahead and eliminated the middle-man, and now you can have this classic digital synth in your DAW of choice.
Featuring two sixteen-partial additive oscillators, each with its own amp envelope, Phosphor’s topology closely follows the alphaSyntauri, while adding many modern features such as full velocity control, a much more extensive modulation routing system, tempo synced LFOs, a pair of delays, and two monophonic modes. The noise and oscillators are able to work in the original alphaSyntauri resolutions, and can also be run at modern sample rates. All this results in a much more sophisticated and capable synth than the original, without compromising the ability to recreate the classic sounds of the early days of digital synthesis.
Phosphor features
- Two complete oscillator/envelope sections modeled on the original topology of the alphaSyntauri.
- Each set of partials can run in “lo-fi” mode, emulating the original, or in a modern mode for alias-free sines.
- The noise can be either “lo-fi” digital shift-register noise, or modern white noise.
