New stuff from Angelspit
On September 9 it’s time to find that bomb shelter and take cover, because that’s the date when the new Angelspit album “Hideous and Perfect” hits the street. Ferocious guitars, abrasive synthetic sounds, harsh beats and aggressive vocals are the main ingredient here, together with some striking imagery.

In this guide, you’ll learn the things you need to know before shopping for a microphone. It’s important to keep in mind a few small things — but after that, the microphone world is yours for the taking!
Before you begin…
Budget
You don’t have to spend the best to get “the best” sound. A lot of microphones are considered “homages” — microphones that replicate a certain characteristic of a historic microphone. These are generally sold by small manufacturers, and carry a much lower price than the original.
Also, don’t be tempted to overspend; a great instrument or voice will sound great on a modest-priced microphone.
Dynamic or Condenser: What are you recording?
If you can only afford one microphone, consider a high-quality condenser. You can find many within the $100-300 price range.
If you can afford it, a great “utility” condenser along with a great dynamic microphone will cover almost all of your recording bases. If you can only afford one, a good condenser microphone will do.
Does your mixer or interface offer phantom power?
Many companies manufacture 48volt phantom power supplies; these will cost you between $100 (for plug-in models), to $250-300 (for elaborate battery-powered solutions).
It simply depends on your resources; if you don’t have built-in phantom, and can’t afford to add the capability to your system, chances are a dynamic microphone is best for you.
One or two microphones?
If your ultimate goal is recording live concerts, rehearsals, or recitals, you might want a stereo pair of condenser microphones. These can be had for a variety of price ranges, from the $100-200 range to many thousands of dollars. Some of the best — companies like Earthworks, Neumann, and DPA — offer models to suit all price ranges.
Don’t forget to budget money for mounting systems (t-bars, as they’re called) and extra cabling to make your two-track recording work.
Skinny Puppy gets ready to rock
According to a news posting on the official Skinny Puppy MySpace website, the band is planning a new studio album and tour for 2009. Rumour has it that the newest puppy would see the light of day somewhere in October. The current line-up of the band consists of Cevin Key, Ogre and Mark Walk with additional help from Otto von Schirach and Aaron from Venetian Snares.
Skinny Puppy is a Canadian band, formed in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1982. Initially envisioned as an experimental side project by cEvin Key (born Kevin Crompton) while he was in the new wave band Images In Vogue, Nivek Ogre (born Kevin Ogilvie) soon joined as vocalist and Skinny Puppy evolved into a full-time project. Over the course of a dozen studio albums and many live tours, Key and Ogre have been the only constant members. Other members have included the late Dwayne Goettel (1986–1995), Dave “Rave” Ogilvie, Mark Walk (2003–present), and a number of guests, including Bill Leeb (1985–1986, under the pseudonym Wilhelm Schroeder), Al Jourgensen (1989), and many others. The group is widely considered the founders of the electro-industrial sub genre.

MESH – 'New album darker and harder than before'
… ‘a dark inspirational love album’.
Mesh have produced a video message for their fans and made it available on their fansite www.mesh-fanclub.com. There you can also hear parts of the new single “Only Better”, to be released on September 4th. In the video, Rich Silverthorn describes the style of the album as harder and dirtier and calls “A Perfect Solution” a “dark inspirational love album”.
