“New handmade DIY stuff from germany – as addons for curetronic, DotCom and other 5U modular Systems. Do you need for your Liveact a precise clock for your sequencer? Here’s the Masterclock Generator Smile Or you like quite random triggered percussive sounds? Check the Math Trigger Sequencer i describes shortly. Or just a single-bar trigger sequencer – in combination w/ the trigger decay envelope generator for percussions. Or a fuzz w/ visualation? Try the LED FUZZ Smile The front design is mostly non-shining anthazit.”

micronaut – experiment one

January 31, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on micronaut – experiment one

Having a bit of fun with the new equipment set-up, and trying to get a feel for the workflow. This piece is entirely sequenced from an Apple //e and Roland CMU-800R. I’m recording in to Ableton Live, but there are no samples or pre-recording. This track is 100% live.

The quick arpeggio sound, drums, and 16th note pulse are coming from the CMU-800R. The low bass note is from a Korg MS20 running through a Roland RE-201 Space Echo, and the main melody sound is coming from the Doepfer modular (in this case a TipTop Audio Z3000 oscillator, plus some Doepfer shit) and running through a Realistic Electronic Reverb and an Eventide TimeFactor. I used a couple instances of Audio Damage Eos for the main reverb inside the DAW, but that’s the only computer effect.

Tesla Coil Music

January 31, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Tesla Coil Music

Recorded live in Urbana, Illinois on March 7, 2008. This outdoor concert was part of a student-run open house for the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois. Tesla coils were used to create musical pitches via a control system designed by university student Steve Ward. Two coils were used. The right coil is playing a prerecorded Midi track, acting as the bass, and the left one is performed live as a lead sound via the Continuum Fingerboard. In spite of the frigid temperatures (4 degrees Fahrenheit, 26 mph winds), the concert was well attended and was voted the most popular event of the open house.

This is the second part of a prog-rock piece I wrote about the history of Easter Island called “The Island at the Center of the World”. I played the instruments on the backing track except the drums which were played by Mike Novak.
