The launch of this DVD special series, Slices – Pioneers of Electronic Music celebrates in detail the life and work of prominent artists or “pioneers” in the global electronic music scene. The first edition is a documentary film based on electronic producer, performer and industry icon, Richie Hawtin. The film draws from the important stages and events in Richie Hawtin’s personal and artistic life, revealing the journey of an introverted and transplanted computerminded teen that develops by way of Detroit’s radio and records fueled by pure driven passion into a successful techno-entrepreneur and global DJ entertainer. Assembling an extensive archive of both new and un-released photos, video and exclusive interviews, the film provides an extraordinary insight into the life and career of one of the most successful activists in techno history: Richie Hawtin.

Short Circuit pays tribute to the key Pioneers of Electronic Music, recent festivals have hosted performances from artists such as the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Holger Czukay, John Foxx, Jeff Mills and Gavin Bryars.
Short Circuit presents Mute is a 2 day incident which will feature performances and unique collaborations from Mute artists past, present and future alongside DJs, talks, workshops, screenings and installations. A celebration of Mute’s unique and influential work as a label and publisher, the occasion will see all of the Roundhouse’s public spaces open together for the first time.

Mute was founded by Daniel Miller in 1978, and since then has signed and developed some of the world’s most influential recording artists – including Depeche Mode, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yazoo, Goldfrapp, Erasure, Moby and Richard Hawley – and become home to a crop of emerging talent and recent signings such as Josh T. Pearson and S.C.U.M.

Space feature in honor of Bob Moog
The new soundsources were developed using highly creative processing techniques with exotic gear like rare Buchla Modulars, Jean Michel Jarre’s EMS Synthi AKS, Hans Zimmer’s massive Modular Moog (including 1027 round robin Moog Drum samples!) and even Eric Persing’s one-of-a-kind OMG-1. With so many different world-class artists contributing, the library is very rich in style and filled with inspiring, cutting edge sounds!

I had the honor to contribute some patches for the Bob Moog Tribute library from Spectrasonics for Omnisphere.
The soundtrack of this clip was done using only sounds from that library including a couple of the ones that i made.

This circuit bent baby doll looks really scary

This instrument was made by me for the local Winnipeg band DRugs. I really like this one. Glitchy, noisy, and fun. The craziness increases ten fold if you plug it into effects. This video was recorded with no effects, just the straight signal from Baby. The “Deprive” knob really helps sculpt the sound. There are three audio rate oscillators and one clock rate that controls the “Shake” feature. It was a complicated task to get everything inside the baby head. It is now sealed shut, so if anything goes wrong…….surgery. My next baby will have a CV in, babies like that. I did not realize there are others who use baby heads for projects……..cool.
Masters of futurepop – VNV Nation – are back
The new album is called “Automatic and are scheduled to be released this September. The album has been in production for a while and according to the band it looks to be an incredibly energetic and anthemic release. The band will play some of the new songs at the Nordstern Festival in Hamburg in July and previews will be available during the Summer.
Further news regarding the album is the Automatic Tour in 2011-2012. It will start on September 6th in Germany with special guest Straftanz. See the list of dates here. Dates for UK and Spain as well as for Scandinavia and South America will be added.
A North American Tour will start in November and run through mid December for the first part and then the second part for early 2012. In related remixing news, the band have just completed a remix for the Dutch Metal band Within Temptation’s upcoming single “Sinêad”, plus a remix of the classic Rotersand track “Merging Oceans” is in the works for their re-release of the EP. Have you ever wanted to know what happened with the long-announced and delayed EP “Crossing The Divide”? The band have decided to give away the EP for free – and to quote the band: “We feel that this is the best way to make good on a promised release that had to be postponed.”
The main reason for the delays had to do with personal matters due to a number of serious eye operations for Ronan Harris last year. What was supposed to have been a short healing period turned into 6 months of treatment to correct a number of other issues that had been there all along.

Well you can definately everything you need in this guys studio 
One things that caught my eye was the Teisco 110F. In the beginning of the 80’s Kawai began manufacturing synthesizers under the company name of Teisco. Their early designs resulted in synths like the S110-F above. The Synthesizer 110-F is an upgraded S60-F, with dual analog VCO’s and an updated look. It has a small but usable 37 note keyboard. Classic analog sawtooth, square, and triangle waveforms plus noise are on-board and can be mixed with external sounds run through the 110-F’s filters and envelopes. The oscillators can be de-tuned for duophonic textures or phatter leads and bass sounds.
There’s plenty of modulation ability and classic analog effects in the 110-F to really liven up the sound. There’s an LFO which can modulate the VCO and VCF and can trigger the EGs. The VCF resonant low pass filter is great too. There’s also a VCA section with Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release controls and finally there’s a Hi-Pass filter. There is also a portamento effect, a ring modulator, vibrato and sample-and-hold for those classic analog synth effects and tricks! Lots of pretty blinking lights, a sleek and straight-forward layout and very nice analog bass, lead and synth sounds are all a part of the Synthesizer 110-F experience.
But also the Octave Cat. Octave released this analog classic – the Cat – during the era of the Minimoog and ARP Odyssey synthesizers. The Cat is actually very much like the ARP Odyssey, so much so that ARP had sued them in the late 1970’s for cloning their designs. The Cat is a monophonic/duophonic analog synthesizer with 2 oscillators capable of square and sawtooth waveforms. VCO 1 also has a triangle waveform. Each of the waveforms can be played simultaneously and mixed together and there are additional sub-octave oscillators on each oscillator to blend new and interesting sounds.
