Soon to be released: AURIA – 48-Track Recording System for iPad
Wavemachine Labs has announced that it has submitted Auria, a new 48-track recorder for the iPad, to Apple for approval.

With the ability to play 48 mono or stereo 24bit/44.1 kHz (higher sample rates possible!) tracks simultaneously, record up to 24 of those tracks simultaneously (through any supported USB multichannel audio interface), and edit and mix with familiar tools and full parameter automation, it’s clear Auria sets a new standard for iPad multitracking.
What’s more, Auria’s 64-bit Double Precision architecture ensures ample headroom for plug-in processing and mix summing, transforming your iPad into a recording and mixing system with sound quality that rivals most DAWs.

Roland Jupiter 4 Self Oscillating Filter and Strymon TimeLine ICE mode
Nice video featuring the first Jupiter synth from Roland.
All sounds from Jupiter 4 are produced by its self oscillating filter with VCO waveforem set to “OFF”. Modulating filter with ENV-1 and LFO and adding a little noise from time to time. Strymon TimeLine is being used in ICE mode with 1.5 octave interval.
The first Jupiter synth. It was among one of the first poly synthesizers (4 individual voices which could be synced together for one fat monophonic lead), it had a pitch wheel that could be assigned to the VCA, VCF, VCO or all together, there are 8 memory locations and a cool arpeggiator – the arpeggiator can in the Duran Duran classic, “Rio”. It also has a very slow LFO for those ever-so-long filter sweeps. Pretty good for 1978!
Not so cool however, are the 10 preset sounds which sound nothing like the piano, brass or strings they claim to be. The placement of all the preset buttons below the keyboard can be inconvenient, especially while playing it. And as with most old analog synths, the Jupiter-4’s tuning can go out often. Still it is a nice analog synth for creating weird trippy analog sounds.
I Dream of Wires – Wired Video
I Dream of Wires, an upcoming documentary about modular synthesizers, celebrates analog hardware in all its wild, messy glory. More than 100 prominent musicians, including Trent Reznor, cEvin Key, Gary Numan, Carl Craig and Morton Subotnick are in the process of being interviewed for the ambitious feature-length film, which is set to be finished in the fall.
Colorful masses of patch cables, rows of knobs and faders, and electronic sounds abound in the exclusive clip above, shot this month at the legendary MUTEK Festival in Montreal. In addition to interviews with several musicians, including Keith Fullerton Whitman, Container and Clark, the 15-minute clip shows intriguing glimpses of the synths in action, in a massive multimedia dome housing 157 speakers called the Satosphere.

For this short improvised demo, the author has used internal programs and mixes from preset and Hollow Sun banks.

Fairlight Instruments becomes Peter Vogel Instruments and announces new products

“A facelift for Fairlight Instruments. Fairlight Instruments Pty Ltd is changing its name in anticipation of the release of some exciting new products. The new name, Peter Vogel Instruments, reflects the company’s transition from building on the past to inventing the future.
I am delighted to announce that we will be unveiling some amazing new products over the coming year, under the new brand. These are now in development and all I will say is that we are working hard to make the new products accessible to the average musician, unlike the Fairlight CMI which back in 1979 cost more than the average house.
The CMI-30A, which we released last year as an homage to the original Fairlight CMI, will continue to be our prestige flagship product. A major upgrade now in the works will become available later this year to existing 30A owners free of charge.
The iOS app has been rebranded and has been withdrawn from the app store pending Apple’s approval. Existing app owners will see an update offered shortly. In response to customer requests, significant new functionality is being developed for release as a free update later this year.
We are also developing an entirely new keyboard product, quite unlike anything previously made by Fairlight — or anyone else.
All will be revealed at NAMM in 2013.

You can download the new track “Evidence” by The Soft Moon vs John Foxx And The Maths right here. The track was born naturally out of the two artists’ mutual appreciation for one another. Captured Tracks will also be making “Evidence” available as a special one-sided seven inch single.
The track will also feature on the forthcoming John Foxx And The Maths mini-album (also entitled “Evidence”) which is due to be released, together with “Analogue Circuit : Live At The Roundhouse”, in early September.
Experimental Giant Pinata MIDI Controller
