Two Moogs and five oscillators

July 5, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Two Moogs and five oscillators

A short video showing the powerful sound of 5 analog oscillators and actually being able to play more than one note. Simply adding another Moog via a MIDI cable, using last note priority on the Moog SP, you get to play 2 notes without having to go into the menu and setup a chain (both Moogs have this ability in the menu – Voyager 1, Voyager2 etc and the same deal with the SP).

A rather quick and dirty video – but you get the benefit of having your ear drums pummeled by the 5 osc’s

Association of Experimental Electronics (KOELSE) – Junk music

July 5, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Association of Experimental Electronics (KOELSE) – Junk music

The movie tells a story of four young men, who form a group called Association of Experimental Electronics (KOELSE). They gather electronic devices that others throw away and build musical instruments and art installations from this “waste”. Their opinion of music, fun and the culture of consuming differs from the masses. What others see as a worthless piece of junk is valuable technology for them. Their whole idea is based on the idea of reusing this garbage. KOELSE is not really a band, it´s also not really an art community. It´s more like a way of life that relies on working together and using the old technology again.

More info here >>

KOELSE also organizes workshops in which they teach electronics and promote ‘self-build’ and above all, that the value of a thing is not defined by the amount of advertising it gets or how it´s priced in the shop, but that there is also value in the joy of making things yourself.

Pearl Syncussion demo

July 4, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Pearl Syncussion demo

You can see that not only “PEEWW” sounds can be done with this percussion synth.
This unit is modified, the OSC 1 can track the V/oct CV, you can play it in tune with any keyboard or system that can send CV.
Very rare unit with lot of sounds very analog and electronic feeling.

“Released in 1979 by respected drum and percussion manufacturers, Pearl, the SY1 Syncussion was the forerunner to the Simmons SDSV.

It offered two completely independent (and identical) channels which were typically triggered from two bongo-like drums fitted with transducers. However, they can be triggered from almost anything including an old synth with a gate output or, indeed, the trigger outputs of something like a TR808.

It was most commonly seen, however, as an adjunct to drum kits or percussion rigs as a source of electronic drum and percussion sounds and sound effects.

Unfortunately, the SY1 earned itself a fairly dreadul reputation almost overnight when it featured on disco tracks with tasteless and gimmicky ‘beeyooo beeyooo’ sounds and of course, as soon as one of these records became a hit, so an endless stream of other, similarly tacky records followed.

Each channel has an oscillator that can produce different basic waveforms which can be shaped with its own simple enevleope generator. Oscillator pitch can be swept with the SWEEP control either positively (i.e. start high and drop in pitch – the source of the dreaded ‘beeyoo’ sound!) or negatively (the pitch rises through the sweep). However, each channel also has an LFO with variable speed and depth and a choice of square and sawtooth waveforms. There’s also a noise generator and a sample/hold function and so, with some adventurous programming, a very wide range of sounds is possible.”

Contribute to the world’s first DEVO documentary

July 4, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Contribute to the world’s first DEVO documentary

Produced in cooperation with DEVO, this feature-length documentary has been in development for 3 years. Although the band has been notoriously secretive for nearly 4 decades, they have granted us unprecedented full-access to their personal inner-workings and daily lives while on the road, backstage, and at home. The film is now in post-production, and we need your help to meet our September 2012 goal for Sundance and other festivals.

The ARE WE NOT MEN? film delves into the brains — and the souls — behind the concept, music, and spectacle of Devo. Sculpting its music, lyrics and visuals are two men whose personalities seem different but whose worldviews are the same: introspective Mark Mothersbaugh and outspoken Gerald Casale. It is Mark and Jerry’s cataclysmic, sometimes contentious, collaboration that birthed what we know as Devo. Rounding out the group are two more members whose position cements the group as a literal band of brothers — Bob Mothersbaugh and Bob Casale. Yes, behind the curtain of this art-school façade are two fascinating and sometimes fractious families, led by Akron, Ohio’s twisted version of Lennon & McCartney — with all the genius and precariousness that would imply. It is the stories of these men — together and apart — that drive the engine that is ARE WE NOT MEN?

This is your chance to be a part of the definitive Devo documentary:

 • WHY KICKSTARTER? We’re in the process of making the film, but need your help to complete it. That’s why we’re reaching out to all DEVO fans to lend a hand. In return for your support, we’ve created some really cool rewards that we think reflects your help in breathing life into this film.

 • STATUS – 95% shot and currently editing. Estimated release date Spring 2013. Help us get this film edited, mixed, and to the festivals!
