Is this a leaked image of Arturia’s new synth the ‘MicroBrute’ ??
After yesterday’s news with the new blurred out Arturia web site speaking of a new hardware synth – this image leaked on the net as well – it it the right things, most likely yes we believe. It appears this is also a one-oscillator synth, with an uncommonly complex oscillator section.

E-mu Emulator II sound demos
A few sounds from the Emulator II sound libraries. Some of these sounds were popular in the ’80s and have become classic.
An affordable classic early eighties sampler/workstation synthesizer. It’s a sampler that sounds like an analog synth because it has analog filters! It samples at a low 8-bits (up to 17.6 seconds) so it’s got that lo-fi sound which is great for some types of electronic music. Especially nice is its ability to create warm analog-ish pads and sounds. It uses those giant 5″ floppy disks for storage. Also on-board is a useful 8-track sequencer. It can be hooked up to a Mac for easier editing using software such as Digidesign’s Sound Designer.
The Emulator II had many new features for its time. MIDI, SMPTE and computer control. Editing samples includes truncating, manual/auto looping, reverse, velocity switch cross-fading and splicing samples together. A great feature is the 24 dB/oct analog 4-pole low pass filter. There are eight separate LFO’s and eight extra individual outputs for each voice. Make no mistake, the Emulator II was a long standing professional sampler of the mid-eighties for musicians and sound designers.
The Emulator II received numerous upgrades during its four year production run from 1984 to 1988. These included the Emulator II+ with double the sample memory and the Emulator II+HD which adds a 20MB internal hard drive.

”Looks tiny, Sounds massive” – new hardware synth from Arturia
Arturia has put a page on their site, teasing a new hardware synthesizer. Arturia doesn’t offer any details on the new synth, other than to say that it ”Looks tiny, Sounds massive” and that it offers ”Vintage sound, modern connectivity”.
Check them out, and let us know what you think Arturia’s ‘sonic monster’ is going to be!
- “I really love the sound of the original , and IT’s got that character and can be even wilder. You can get all kinds of crazy and musical interactions going on with other analog gear and drum machines. Combine the two together and you’re rocking?” Adrian Utley (Portishead)
- “IT takes me back to the joy I felt when I pushed that first key and a saw wave spoke back to me. IT allows for more than 100% values of such things as keyboard tracking. IT melds the best in a compact little powerhouse.” Terry Lawless (U2 and P!NK)
- “Once again Arturia has given me the best of both worlds with IT. It’s blowing minds at both my recordings session and in concert. The perfect compliment to my already diverse rig.” Roger Joseph Manning Jr (The Moog CookBook, Jellyfish, Imperial Drag, Beck)
- “So Just when you think Arturia can’t be any more practical than the Mini Brute. They bust you in the head with THIS.” Keith Shocklee (Public Enemy)
- “For me, a Synthesizer that has no presets is an adventure every time. IT is a recipe for audio joy. IT soon becomes a real electronic instrument, that develops with your knowledge and expertise.”Chris Cross (Ultravox)
- “The small form factor is disproportionate to the massive sound you can get out of IT. Having used many Arturia soft synths, this is a great piece to transition from a laptop. Turn the switch and go.” Sandra Vu (Dum Dum Girls, SISU)
- “Big, ballsy sound! Arturia has another sonic monster on its hands!” André Bowman (Will.I.Am)
- “It’s SMALL GIANT! I love it!!” Hideki Matsutake
Elektron Jam Session
In this session, all audio is routed through the Octatrack. Analog Four’s output goes into Octatrack’s input CD and Machinedrum’s output goes into input AB. Also, Monomachine is being fed through the Machinedrum to add some Distortion and Sample Rate Reducer.
Octatrack is set to be the Master, sending MIDI clock to all other units. It also sends Program Change messages. By doing so, other units will follow the Pattern Changes made on the Octatrack. This makes it really handy when playing with multiple Elektron units.
Most of the beat is made up on the Machinedrum with some additional Loops from Octatrack. Monomachine is making trippy synth sounds and some glitchy hihat sequence towards to end. Analog Four takes care of all the Bass, Lead and other squelchy synth sounds!
Xenophone – New Monophonic Analog Hardware Synth from HyperSynth
Here are all the details:
Synth-Engine:
Xenophone is an advanced analog mono-synth with 100% analog signal path. It has three oscillators, two subs, three ring modulators, one multimode VCF and analog distortion, all based on discrete analog circuits followed by a high quality stereo digital delay and reverb. The extensive modulation capabilities of the sound engine plus the warm and unique character of Xen’s filter enriched by built-in analog distortion make it the best choice for creating deep basses, aggressive leads, transparent and crisp synth lines, acid sequences, complex arpeggios, punchy percussive sounds, extreme SFXs and more. Besides the synthesis capabilities, it can be used as a powerful audio processor to colorize an external input signal by analog filter, distortion and DFX.
Control and User Interface:
26 encoders and 27 buttons put all the major parameters easily reachable with no menu diving. The Encoders smoothly turn and provide you 96 steps per rotation that mimic pot’s feeling and sweep range. The layout is designed in a way to be simple and intuitive. Using 88 LEDs and a free-angle OLED display, it is easy to get the idea of the current preset at a glance. Master Tempo and all LFOs have blinking LEDs that show the BPM and rates. The presets can be previewed without external keyboard using 3 buttons in 3-octave range or pre-defined notes. User interface is easy to learn and creative with no useless bells and whistles. You can get a huge sound out of the box only with a few tweaks and changes.
Enclosure and Connectivity:
Xenophone has a rigid Aluminum enclosure that comes with a pair of vintage style hand-made wooden side panel that made out of maple wood in two options: flat and tilted.
The box connects to the outside world using 2x balanced outputs (stereo), 1x headphone jack, 1x external input, 1x CV input, MIDI in/out, USB and DC power in.
MIDI and DAW Integration:
Xenophone can function as a standalone instrument or fully programmable synth. It responds to the standard MIDI messages plus dedicated CC and NRPNs. The maximum implemented resolution in NRPN mode is 12bit, 4096 steps for filter frequency that provides super smooth sweep over the frequency range in compare to 127 steps CC standard!
The computer integration is an important feature of a modern synth that plays vital role in the studio. Xenophone comes with a software editor called: XEditor. Using this editor you can control and automate every parameter of the sound engine remotely via MIDI and storing your patches on your PC and vise-versa. It also helps you in deep and precise editing the patches. “XEditor” will be available as standalone and VST plug-in.”

Thomas Dolby – The Invisible Lighthouse US tour trailer (w/ live Foley SFX)
A trailer for the upcoming live performance US tour by Thomas Dolby, playing and narrating the soundtrack to his self-made film debut The Invisible Lighthouse, with special guest Blake Leyh on live Foley sound effects.
Elektron Monomachine demo (mostly SID emulation)
Product description:
Each of the six Monomachine tracks is loaded with sound shaping devices. At your command is a tape style delay, a resonant multi mode filter, a sample rate reducer, a distortion effect, an arpeggiator and no less than three LFO’s – per track. The sound palette is limitless.
Despite the depth of the Monomachine it is very easy to use. Every parameter is close at hand and no confusing menus are in your way. Everything is laid out in a logical and usable manner. This is particularly useful when you perform live and don’t want to press the wrong buttons.
A special MIDI mode gives you control of six dedicated MIDI tracks. Use the versatile arpeggiators and all the other special sequencer features to take MIDI sequencing to the next level. The Monomachine is a given centre piece in any studio.
You can upload your own customized waveforms and use them in the Monomachine environment. This, plus the ability to treat sound incoming through the two external inputs using the special FX machines, makes the Monomachine a sound designer’s dream come true.
The Monomachine SFX-60+ MKII comes equipped with a +Drive by default. With a +Drive there is no risk of running out of storage space. Over 16’000 patterns, 16’000 kits and 8’000 waveforms can be internally stored.
Man and machine have never been closer to each other.
