More Mute classics :-) on stage
Josh T. Pearson brilliant adaptation of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” and Erasure’s “A little respect”.
Josh T. Pearson is a musician from Texas. In 1996 he formed the short-lived but now critically acclaimed band Lift to Experience, who released one double album, 2001’s The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads, before splitting up soon after. Lift To Experience played live shows and became a favorite of the Denton, TX music scene. They also were played many times on the radio show The Adventure Club with Josh in Dallas on KDGE The Edge. Bella Union saw the band at South By Southwest and they were signed shortly after. Pearson is currently pursuing a solo career, which so far has consisted of a number of tours, both headlining and supporting. Pearson no longer plays any Lift to Experience songs live.
Pearson has not released an album or much else in the way of recorded material since the demise of Lift to Experience. In the meantime Pearson has been selling a variety of self-produced live recordings at recent gigs, including a bootleg album To Hull And Back and a DVD single Live In Paris. He featured on a guitar and backing vocals on two songs, “Seal Jubilee” and “Trophy” on the Bat for Lashes album Fur and Gold.
The only solo studio-recorded song to be released for almost ten years is a cover of Hank Williams’ song “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”, which was released as one half of a split 7″ single also featuring Dirty Three. Pearson has notably performed at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival several times over the last few years.

Background:
The song was inspired by the book Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley. According to songwriter Martin Gore:
It’s a song about being a Jesus for somebody else, someone to give you hope and care. It’s about how Elvis was her man and her mentor and how often that happens in love relationships; how everybody’s heart is like a god in some way, and that’s not a very balanced view of someone, is it?
“Personal Jesus” is Depeche Mode’s 23rd UK single, released on August 29, 1989, and the first single from the album Violator. The single reached No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, the title song has been covered by numerous artists including Gravity Kills, Marilyn Manson, Jerry Williams, G&G, Lollipop Lust Kill and Johnny Cash.
In 2004, “Personal Jesus” was ranked #368 in Rolling Stone’s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time”,[3] and in September 2006 it was voted as one of the “100 Greatest Songs Ever” in Q magazine.
“Personal Jesus” will be re-released as a single on May 30, 2011 for the new Depeche Mode remix album Remixes 2: 81–11, with the leading remix by the production team Stargate.

This was the seventh annual MusiCares benefit concert. Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan and Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman were both honored at the event.
Gahan was honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction and recovery process. Lyman received the MusiCares’ From the Heart Award for his unconditional friendship and dedication to the mission and goals of the organization.
All proceeds from the event went to the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.

Dave Gahan Music Cares Benefit Concert May 6th 2011
Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan has been honored during the 7th annual MusiCares MAP FundSM benefit concert at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Friday, May 6, 2011. MusiCares MAP Fund provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.
Gahan was honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, and for his commitment to helping other drug addicts with the addiction and recovery process.
Next to sets by Jane’s Addiction, Ozomatli and Paramore, also Dave Gahan performed a few songs (8 in total) including cover versions of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, David Bowie’s “Cracked Actor” and the Damned’s “New Rose”. Other songs in the setlist were his solo songs “Dirty Sticky Floors” and “Saw Something” and the Depeche Mode songs “I Feel You” and “Personal Jesus”. Note that the latter featured that other Depeche Mode member Martin Lee Gore as guest.

Without Mute records and the acts they have nurtured in the 30+ years since they were formed by Daniel Miller in 1978 as a way to release his own tracks, a whole swathe of influential electronic pop music may never have made it to mainstream attention. Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure, Moby, Goldfrapp and many others have benefitted from their unique, artist-centric focus and been able to flourish and have long term relevance in an industry which is so often driven by the flavour of the month.

Since May 1st a mysterious video has been circulating within Depeche Mode circles. Posted on YouTube by the ‘thinlinestaff’ account, it shows the inside of what could be Alan Wilder’s UK estate, with an audio loop of ‘Clean’ as soundtrack. Oh, and guess who pops up at around 55 seconds into the 1:07 minute long video? Yep, the boss himself.
Alfa Matrix launches 2nd volume in Depeche Mode tribute series
The first volume of this Depeche Mode cover album received a more than successful echo from both indie and mainstream worlds; nevertheless it was the label’s intention to keep it a one-off project. But some of the label bands insistently pressed the label to launch a second volume and after hearing some of the first versions, the label decided to give the green light. Zynic will release its debut album “Fire Walk With Me” – in the spirit of classic synthpop acts
Electropop act Zynic will release its debut album “Fire Walk With Me” at the end of the month. On the 29th to be precise.
The album will be released as a limited edition of 500 copies through German label Conzoom Records. This edition will feature 4 exclusive bonustracks, remixed by famous artists like Assemblage 23, Iris, People Theatre and Parralox.
Zynic wants to carry the spirit of the 80′s into tomorrow’s sound. Classic acts like Yazoo, Japan, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and OMD were always a big influence on Zynics way of creating his own tunes. And so there is one special highlight on the cd edition of “Fire Walk With Me”. It is a cover version of the classic Depeche Mode hit “Any Second Now”. According to the label, Zynic has covered the song very emotional and with a cool electronic bassline – so it might be one of the best Depeche Mode cover versions that were ever done so far.
