Multi-channel MIDI playback sequencer for the Apple iPad
Garren Langford has released MIDI Live (App Store link), a $39.99 multi-channel MIDI playback sequencer for the Apple iPad.
MIDI Live works with the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer, so you can use it to control playback of hardware gear.
MIDI Live provides realtime modification of MIDI file parameters including:
- Song Tempo
- Key Change
- Instrument Assignment
- Song Cue
- Mixing Parameters
It is possible to alter these parameters while the song is playing or save for future playback. Playlists are also supported. Songs can be freely downloaded from the internet or loaded from your laptop.
Note: This application does not make sound on its own, it requires the Midi Mobilizer from Line 6.
MIDI Live is notable for the fact that it turns the iPad into a hardware MIDI playback controller – but we’re still looking for a multi-channel sequencer that works with the MIDI Mobilizer.

Favorite sounds can be saved in one of 48 user-programmable presets, organized as eight color-coded banks for easy organization. A chromatic tuner allows quick and accurate tuning; the adjustable metronome includes tap tempo and selectable accent sounds. The app also features a looping audio player.

Korg has announced that it has extended the special $9.99 introductory price for its iElectribe virtual analog beatbox iPad app, available from Apple’s App Store (inside the iTunes store). Funkbox on the iPhone is ok but I never really used it past a novelty show off item. On the iPad I can sit comfortably and knock out loops with pleasure. The iElectribe really knocks you out. It feels like hardware.

Streetly Electronics, designers and manufacturers of the original mellotron and Omenie, creators of Ellatron for iPhone and iPad, are delighted to announce their first joint development, Mellotronics M3000 HD.
The M3000 is a truly remarkable digital musical instrument for iPhone OS. The M3000 features 13 voices sampled from Streetly Electronics’ production tapes. These are the same tapes that featured on Strawberry Fields Forever, Nights in White Satin, Watcher of the Skies, Odessey and Oracle and hundreds more timeless, classic records.
All 35 notes of each tape set are sampled, and all the character of the classic mellotron sound has been retained. All 35 keys are on-screen and available at once, so anything that can be played on a mellotron can be played on the M3000. In fact the M3000 is even more flexible than a true mellotron because it includes Ellatron’s 12 programmable chord pads. The M3000 also supports 4 in-memory voices at one time, with independent keyboard and chordpad voices. The inclusion of a rich, spacious onboard reverb unit allows the M3000 to be used as a recording or performance instrument with no outboard effects chain.
