VST emulator from Argentina
Argentina-based DJ Pablo Martin gives us some insight on his new Emulator software.
This are the first images i make public of my new touchscreen MIDI controller (now with mulitouch support). The older Monotouchlive is now discontinued and the new software born is called EMULATOR.
The first version i plan to launch very soon, including control for traktor on internal mode; the other interfaces are under development (traktor external ableton etc etc)
This software is designed to work with tablet PCs, the model i suggest for use with my software is the wonderful HP TM2, or the older model TM2Z. It also can be used with lenovo multitouch tablet and DELL XT tablet. All these tablets support multitouch, have capacitive digitizers, but again i suggest the HP TM2, due to it having a wonderful capacitive digitizer from WACOM; it’s really good quality tablet.
The CPU power of TM2 is perfect to run Traktor; I tested with Ableton without any troubles. Some guys think the CPU on HP TM2 doesn’t have enough power, but that is wrong.The major problem with present touchscreen controllers is that you don’t have tactile feedback (you can’t feel with your fingers knobs, buttons, sliders etc etc), for that reason you need put your eyes all time on the touchscreen device for use the controller, and lose the focus over music software.
Emulator is a software where you have all what you need on same screen and combine the power of multitouch, the useful standard mouse and the native interface of software to be controlled all in one nice and useful GUI.
This software runs under windows 7; the first version I plan to launch only works on tablet PCs with 12.1 inch screen (1280×800). I decided to do this because the big LCD multitouch screens available on the market aren’t really accurate and enough for pro usage; [optical sensors can] generate false touch, ghost touches, etc. and you lose portability [on larger screens].

New sequencer for iPad
BeepStreet has announced iSequence for iPad, an updated version of its iPhone music sequencer.
Features include:

According to the developers, the iPad edition has been rewritten and redefined to take advantage of a bigger screen and better performance.

Controlling Reason with iPad

Typewriter synth, what’s next?
TOPLAPapp is a free application for the Apple iPad that uses a sonic puzzle as the interface for a virtual machine for sound synthesis.
Description:
This machine accepts a few valid instructions represented by the letters T, O, P, L, A, and p. You control TOPLAPapp by placing each command letter within a grid, along with setting some associated parameter sliders.
The machine rushes through the instruction set to create output sounds, which are usually of a somewhat noisy character, hopefully interestingly so.
The historical antecedents include instruction synthesis as pioneered at the Institute of Sonology in the 1970s, and the live coding movement, of modifying a running program as it acts.
Note: Developers warn “This app is intended for those interested in more experimental sound art: don’t download unless you are open to stranger computer music sounds”.

The HEX Harmonic keyboard
Hex Series is musical keyboard software for iPhone / iPad / iPod touch, which has substantial 98 keys. The keyboard layout can be changed in order to extend tone range by a single shake while you play in iPhone / iPod touch. Hexagonal keys have certain note relationships like guitar chords. When you know the patterns, you can transpose smoothly. Furthermore, both Hex OSC and Hex OSC Full transmit OSC(Open Sound Control), so you can control software and hardware ,which can deal with OSC. You can also control MIDI software and hardware by converting OSC to MIDI.
A close look at Brian Eno and Eyegasm
This video, by Glenn Marshall, is created by an iPad running Marshall’s new app, Eyegasm, paired with Brian Eno’s Apollo soundtrack.
Eyegasm takes a generative approach to animation, creating ambient visuals.
The video is direct output from the iPad’s HD screen, which generates the animation in real-time at 1024 x 768.
My new app ‘Eyegasm’ is now available for iPad on the App Store.
It’s essentially a version of Zio, but without the menus and configurability options (p.s. you can still run Zio in ‘upscaled’ mode on the iPad too of course).
Eyegasm however is HD – and takes full advantage of the hi res screen on the iPad.

iPad controlling Reason ReDrum and Record
This Propellerhead Record tutorial demonstrates a TouchOSC drum pad interface on the Apple iPad, configured to trigger a Redrum Drum Machine in Propellerhead Record + Reason.

Reason on iPad, maybe according to the CEO
According to the latest CM magazine as they spoke to Propellerhead CEO Ernst Nathorst-Boos there might be a possibility they are going to develope iPad version of Reason as “iPad is at least as powerful computer as the ones we started making software for back in 90s. And that’s pretty exicting!”
