Free Moog drum machine
The Minimoog Voyager RME is an analog waveform sculpting masterpiece, especially with the add-on CV breakouts. Unlike many classic analog drum machines, the Voyager with its dual filters can create wonderful stereo imagery. I’ve taken the time to program detailed percussive patches & from these i’m creating sample sets. This is the 1st “Moog Drum One” Drum Rack for Ableton Live 8.
Captured @ 24bit/96k with Lynx converters & DBX 903 compression.
Analog Signal path = Moog Voyager-DBX 903’s-Console EQ-Dominator II- Lynx.
Six velocity samples per pad.
Download : To install, extract the Pack with Live into a folder of your choosing. Then open the extracted project & save the Drum Rack into your library.
Rhytmic modulations with Moog's MF-101
The MF-101 Low Pass Filter’s ENV OUT Control Voltage makes a number of amazing Rhythmic Modulation techniques possible. This video shows some of these applications in a Dance Music setting. This technique is not limited to Dance Music. The applications are as endless as your imagination.
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W868tnYADDk]
The award-winning MF-101 Lowpass Filter is a direct descendant of the original Moog modular synthesizers. It contains two complete modular functions: a voltage-controlled lowpass filter and an envelope follower. It can be used with any instrument level to line level signal.
The moogerfooger filter’s control parameters are signal mix, cutoff frequency, resonance amount, and envelope amount. All of the Lowpass Filter’s parameters can be controlled with expression pedals or external control voltages as well as by great feeling knobs which beg to be tweaked. Panel switches select filter mode and envelope follower speed. 1/4″ jacks are provided for audio input and output, pedal/control inputs and envelope follower output. A heavy-duty, yet smooth-acting bypass switch allows tabletop or foot operation.
A lowpass filter removes high frequencies from a tone. It makes the tone sound more mellow or muted. The lower the Cutoff, the more muted the tone sounds. Imagine a window shade. As it is pulled down, it cuts out the higher light, then the light from the middle of the window, then finally all the light. The MF-101 Lowpass Filter does the same sort of thing to the sound spectrum with it’s Cutoff Control.
As you turn up the Resonance control, the overtones near the cutoff frequency are boosted. Resonance gives the moogerfooger filter the same classic Moog filter sound as the Minimoog; and Moog modular synthesizers.
The envelope follower tracks the loudness contour (envelope) of a sound, and produces a voltage that follows the dynamics of your playing. Every time you play a note, the envelope voltage goes up and then down. The harder you play, the higher the envelope voltage goes. The envelope follower opens and closes the lowpass filter. Think of the envelope voltage as an invisible hand that turns the CUTOFF knob up and down every time you play a note. Since the envelope follows the dynamics of your instrument’s signal, you actually play the filter as you play your instrument.

NAMM 2009: New from Arturia – miniMOOG V
Updates to software instruments
French physical-modelling company Arturia were showing updates to two of their software products at the NAMM show. Finally a decent Moog filter
And believe it or not – it has actually been endorsed by Moog
The new Moog Multimode Filter, delivers the first truly analog-sounding VCF (voltage controlled filter) emulation made for mixing, performing, creating, or destroying. The Moog Multimode Filter is a ‘digital-only’ tabletop filter set that combines the best of Bob Moog’s classic designs with select features from his final Voyager instrument.
Moog Multimode Filter features :
* Classic Moog ladder-type 24dB/Oct (4-pole) & 12dB/Oct (2-pole) LPF/HPF/BPF
* Extreme distortion via 0/+20dB Input Gain, replicating MiniMoog external input
* Stunningly “analog”; Self-Oscillation, Smooth Saturation, Zero Artifacts/Quantization
* Enveloper Follower, Six LFO wave shapes, and DAW tempo synchronization
* Mono & Stereo processing with Spacing/Offset features from Voyager
* Includes Free low-DSP Multimode Filter “SE” version for high instance counts
The Moog Multimode Filter has an introductory price of $199 and is available as a fully functional 14-day demo in the v5.1 download. It will be available for UAD-2 in a future software release. UAD-2 owners who buy the Multimode Filter now for UAD-1 will get the UAD-2 version at no additional cost.
Worth waiting for???
…the Moog Guitar, hehe
Why add the Moog Guitar to your arsenal?
Because there is nothing else like it. It sustains like no other sustainer. The mute mode has never been heard on any guitar. Controlled sustain allows you to play single lines or polyphonic lines without muting technique. Use the foot pedal to pull harmonics from the guitar or control the frequency of the Moog ladder filter.
The much-anticipated and much-talked-about Moog Guitar will debut at Summer NAMM in Nashville.
According to Moog Music President Mike Adams, the Moog Guitar opens the guitarist to a whole new musical vocabulary: “It’s not a guitar synthesizer; not a MIDI guitar; not an effects processor,” Adams said. “The guitarist is intimately connected to The Moog Guitar because it works its magic on the strings themselves.”
The Moog Guitar offers three unique modes…Sustain, Mute and Controlled Sustain. In the Sustain mode, it provides infinite, powerful sustain on every string and at every fret position; Mute removes energy from the strings, resulting in a variety of staccato effects; Controlled Sustain allows the musician to play sustained, single-note or even polyphonic lines with strong sustain and effortless clarity. In this mode, the Moog Guitar sustains the notes being played while actively muting the notes not being played.
The first public demonstration of The Moog Guitar will be at the Moog Guitar Showcase, featuring Kenny Vaughn and Fareed Haque with Garaj Mahal. The Moog Guitar Showcase will take place at Nashville’s renowned 3rd and Lindsley on Friday, June 20 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.
The Moog Guitar will be demonstrated to media at NAMM at a press conference at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 21 in Moog Music’s NAMM Booth 2030.
The first ever Moog Guitar will be the limited edition Paul Vo Collector Edition Guitar ($6495). The AAAAA maple top guitar with a mahogany body and ebony finger board will be a much sought-after axe even without the addition of the patented Moog electronics. Each guitar will be individually signed by Moog associate and guitar inventor Paul Vo and will carry a sealed Certificate of Authenticity identifying it as the first ever Moog Guitar.

A short movie clip of some Moog Voyager running through a Boss RE 201 Space Echo which is based on the legendary Roland RE201 tape echo. Nice!!
Free Moog VST
If you are looking for a free Moog emulator in VSTi format, the Minimogue VA is a cpu friendly synth producing lead, FX and bass using the same sound architecture of the real Minimoog. It is programmed to be as expressive as possible. It is created by Voltkitchen group with Synthedit, a Modular Synthesiser for Windows XP and Vista that allows you to create your own synth and save it as a VST.
From the Minimogue’s site: “The first 3 rows of knobs represent the original Minimoog. The only additions here is a button for retrig and legato. The original Minimoog is always set to legato. Also there are sliders for fine tuning that is not present on the Minimoog, but these works just like the pitch knob, only that it is more sensitive. Its just there to help you, because the Mini moog sounds best when it is almost in tune, but not 100%. Tuning plays a big part in the MM sound. Also release in the envelope generators is added. The upper section is where you create sounds.
The last row of knobs represent new features not present on the original Minimoog: midi control, oscillator sync, LFO, autopan, overdrive, chorus and a delay section that you can sync to host BPM. The LFO has 3 functions. At low level settings it is intended to simulate the small tuning and instabilities in an original MM. At high level settings it simulates the tweaking of a knob so that you can focus on the playing. The third function is to give oscillatorsync pitch variations to work with. It also syncs to host BPM. ”
