Odyssey Patches and Tutorial

Published 1973 by Arp Instruments Inc.

I’ve just put together the pics and the audio track from arpodyssey.com/roger-powell.html because it’s so nice to have it together…

This is the most beautiful tutorial for the ARP Odyssey i’ve ever heard. Thanks to Roger Powell for the tutorial and to Guy Phethean and the arpodyssey.com -people for keeping it alive.

While the Minimoog proved to be a runaway success as the first compact studio synthesizer, ARP responded with a compact and user-friendly studio synthesizer of their own with the Odyssey in 1972. An almost equally legendary machine itself, the Odyssey was ARP’s highest selling synth back then, and still is to this day in the second-hand market.

The Odyssey essentially gives you a simplified hard-wired ARP 2600 in a much smaller and affordable package. The Odyssey is a 2-oscillator analog synth (with duo-phonic capability) and it sounds really nice; the Minimoog has three oscillators and is capable of thicker sounds. The Odyssey comes well equipped with all the tweakable features and analog goodness you’d expect: a resonant low pass filter, ADSR envelopes, sine or square wave LFO, and a sample-and-hold function.

The Odyssey also added a few new features such as a high pass filter that could be used in series with the low pass, oscillator-sync capability, and pulse-width modulation. It is a very professional and expressive machine that can create nice analog basses, interesting leads, great effects and sweeping sounds straight out of a Tangerine Dream album!

There were many versions of the Odyssey over the years, each a little different. They can be broken down into 8 models spanning 3 Mark “Mk” versions.

Holiday treat from Native – free synth – SKANNER

December 21, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Holiday treat from Native – free synth – SKANNER

Xmas treat from Native Instruments :-)

SKANNER – our holiday gift for you: Stephan Schmitt’s raucous and exciting new synth is available for download now. SKANNER can be used either with the latest version (5.6.2) of the free REAKTOR 5 PLAYER, or REAKTOR 5.6.2.

Play samples like a synth – SKANNER will rip through your holiday lethargy.

“Created by Stephan Schmitt, SKANNER is an innovative, unorthodox instrument with a unique raw edge. It takes samples as source material and generates breathtaking new sounds, ranging from simple sine waves to walls of noise. A must-have for adventurous producers and sound designers, SKANNER is also completely free. Runs in the latest version (5.6.2) of the free REAKTOR 5 PLAYER, or REAKTOR 5.6.2. Download it today!”

Despite the complex synthesis going on under the hood, SKANNER couldn’t be easier to use. Two views offer different levels of interaction: The ‘A’ view features four macro controls that are mapped to multiple parameters – even subtle tweaks can create dramatic changes.

If you want to dig deeper into the architecture of SKANNER, the ‘B’ view (pictured here) provides access to more detailed parameters. Use SKANNER with REAKTOR 5.6 and you can replace the included samples with your own – discover their sonic potential when they get skanned. At the heart of SKANNER’s creative potential is the versatile Preset Morpher – morph between eight different snapshots for evolving sounds that are unworldly and unusual. The controls include morphing speed and LFO modulation – jam and morph from one extreme to another, and capture your performance in your DAW.*

TC-11 Multi-Touch Synthesizer – Performance Demo

December 16, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on TC-11 Multi-Touch Synthesizer – Performance Demo

TC-11 is a fully programable multi-touch synthesizer for the iPad. This video demos some of the 64 included presets, and shows the multi-touch performance and device motion control.

TC-11 uses multi-touch control like no other app. The relationships between touches are controllers that drive synthesis. Since TC-11 is fully programable, any touch controller can change any synthesis parameter.

More videos will be uploaded soon! Stay tuned for a full feature tour, editing demo, and tips on programming your own TC-11 patches.

C-MOnSter Sound Demo

“This is a sound demo of a CMOS based polyphonic synthesizer that I made. A keyboard controlled top octave synth that uses almost exclusively simple CMOS circuits to create and modify the sound. The full explanation is here. This is the technical explanation of a CMOS based top octave synthesizer. Check out my other video for a sound demo. The synth uses mostly CMOS chips to generate a the top octave twice, then divides it to get the rest of the notes. The sound is then shaped and processed uses more CMOS circuits, before finally going through dual Wasp filters.”

A quick look at the new Eowave Domino synthesizer

December 8, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on A quick look at the new Eowave Domino synthesizer

.:.:DOMINO.::: is a discrete analogue synthesizer with a VCO in the tradition of MS20 and TB303. The VCO, filter & VCA are transistor made. This transistor architecture gives .:.:DOMINO.::: a unique raw sound. Rich and raw at the same time, no need of external effects to give life to the sound. The VCO offers a mix between sawtooth and square. Pulsewidth can be modulated by the LFO. The filter is a low-pass 24dB resonant filter. The analogue envelope range is from 1ms to 10s with attack, decay, sustain/release.The LFO has 8 different waveforms. On waveform 8, the modulation wheel can replace the LFO. MIDI CC 8 to 16 can transform the LFO in a sequencer to modulate pitch, pulsewidth, filter cutoff. The VCA can be modulated by a gate or by an envelope. In the legato mode, playing notes will generate glide between two notes. The glide time can be edited via MIDI CC. Additional features like a 8 steps sequencer, an arpeggiator and an accent recognition capability turns the Domino into a powerful tool.

Technical specifications

– 1 analogue oscillator from saw to square with tune and mix
