The 3rd generation Buddha Machine
FM3 is now taking orders for Chan Fang – the third generation of their Buddha Machine:
Chan Fang, which translates as “Zen Room,” sees FM3 swap drones and tones from their first two Buddha releases for unadulterated classical loops.
All tracks were composed and performed on the Qin, a seven-string zither revered as the grand-daddy of Chinese instruments. Deep sonorous tuning and complex harmonic overtones give the Qin a contemplative and soothing voice.
Turn on Chan Fang and soundtrack your life. Tweak the pitch to match your mood. Pair it with another Buddha Machine for a pocket orchestra to enlighten your morning commute, long bath, thinking, reading, relaxing, romancing…
Our UK distributor, Cargo, is now taking orders. USA orders will begin soon. Chan Fang will be shipping early December 2010.

All you need to be a pop star – the 4 chord way
Watched these guys on TV the other day and although not electronic music I believe the 4 chord way probably does the trick regardless of genre
Studio recording of The Axis of Awesome’s “4 Chords”. The song that proves that all you need to be a pop star is four simple chords.
The audio is accompanied with a slide show of the original artists.
Different recordings of “4 Chords” will vary as the band continually updates the song with the latest hits that use the structure.

Toontrack is back with heavy stuff
Toontrack announced today their latest EZX expansion for their drum systems: Metalheads. The promo text goes like this: One world-renowned drummer, Tomas Haake, member of the extreme metal band Meshuggah. One in demand producer, Daniel Bergstrand, whose mixing and producing credits include the likes of In Flames, Strapping Young Lad, Soilwork and Meshuggah, just to name a few.
Two Incredible drum sets, assembled and recorded to metal perfection, ready to bring your metal productions to the next level. And, for the first time in Toontrack history, we’ve included Separate mix channels in the EZdrummer mixer, containing kick and snare drum samples designed by Daniel Bergstrand, that augment these already amazingly recorded drums.
Twelve classic Meshuggah songs, captured flawlessly via MIDI by Tomas Haake himself, organized both as full songs as well as song parts so you can customize, dissect and use his grooves and drumming brilliance to inspire or create your next grand metal composition.
This is the next step in the evolution of Metal drum production tools. SRP $89 (US).

The best DJs in the world has been announced
Armin Van Buuren tops the 2010 list of the Top 100 Djs in the world, as compiled by DJ Mag. Van Buuren beat out David Guetta, Tiësto, Deadmau5 and Above & Beyond for the top position.
For Van Buuren, it’s his fourth year at the top.
“It’s pretty obvious when you’ve been voted top for three years that at some point you have to come down,” says Van Buuren. “But, obviously, it’s a people’s vote, and I’m not going to lie and say I wouldn’t like to win it again.”
Check out the full list below. Unfortunately – you can play the “Where’s Waldo” of the Top 100 DJ List by looking for a woman on the list. And how many DJs on the list can you find that say they aren’t DJs?

SoftStep tutorial – multi-touch controller
Keith McMillen Instruments announced earlier in the week the release of SoftStep, the first universal multi-touch USB/MIDI foot controller.
In this official video, KMI support tech Sarah Howe takes you on a quick tour of the technical aspects of the SoftStep.
Weighing in at just over a pound and fitting into most laptop and guitar cases, SoftStep has ten sensor keys, which go beyond the simple on and off commands by supporting five degrees of motion.
See Sonic State’s Softstep introduction coverage for details.
