MIDI controller for Network MIDI and USB MIDI
Crossfire Designs has introduced MidiPadz Lite (App Store link) – a simple MIDI controller for Network MIDI and USB MIDI that lets you trigger notes with its drum pads.
An X/Y-pad and a gravity controller, controlled by the iPad’s rotation, allow you to send MIDI slider parameters as well.
Features:
- Supports USB MIDI over iPad Camera Adapter
- Supports network MIDI over WiFi
- Touch sensitive drum pads (depends on vertical position and two-finger tap for full velocity, user-changeable)
- Four pages with 16 drum pads each
- Drum pad notes adjustable (tap on pad note symbol on bottom left, after that drag finger on pad up/down to change its note)
- One X/Y controller (big pad on bottom)
- Gravity controller (rotational axis of the iPad; Tap on rotation symbol on bottom left to activate, MIDI send light blinks every time you change the iPad’s rotation)
- All controllers can change their MIDI controller number
- Rotational- and scoll-lock for drum pad module (tap lock symbol)

New C/A/T album – featuring Erica Dunham of Unter Null
Fresh off the release of a career retrospective album, “Music To Piss You Off”, Ben Arp has announced that he has begun work on a new C/A/T album – this time featuring a collaboration with Erica Dunham of Unter Null and Stray fame. Dunham recently rejoined the live line-up for C/A/T and will now also move into a production role in the studio.
Arp states this will be “my first collaborative effort since I began writing as C/A/T in 1998 and I am very excited about it”. The new album, “The Scene Broke My Heart” will be the first new C/A/T full length album since 2008’s “The Great Crisis” and will progress stylistically from 2009’s “We Are Still Alive” EP release.
While no release date has been set for the new album, Arp says he “hopes to have this album released at some point in 2011” but goes on to say that C/A/T is “not bound by any label contracts so I plan to explore release options for this album”.

Crazy LEGO Xmas
Desmond Dodecahedron has the craziest way of celebrating the season I’ve seen this year: just build a giant Christmas tree from LEGOs, then use visual programming environment Max/MSP and some custom electronics to trigger tunes. Desmond writes:
Once I discovered that the word “advent” was actually an abbreviation of “audio event” and the fact that we have had lots of snow in London – I decided to create this Christmas Carol note filtering tree. (in this case it is actually a midi event tree – but you get the general idea). Each pitch class of a Carol i.e. all the Ds or all the Fs are allocated to a Lego door. When the door is opened, a midi file is played and the notes are sent to a vst synth in a Max Patch. The doors have small magnets which trigger a reed switch. I built a couple of resistor ladder multiplexers so that I could use nine doors with just 3 analogue ins of a Make Controller. This device could be used as a sophisticated “Name that Tune” device – fun for all the family – if that’s what your family considers to be fun – unlike my own. Adolphson & Falk finally back with their synths
After 31 years it is finally time, Sweden’s synth pioneers Adolphson & Falk makes its first electronic concert! In recent years, Adolphson & Falk appeared in many different ways, but always with a focus on acoustic instruments, while they’ve stayed faithful to their roots and continue to play their older material. In October 2010 released the box “101 010” which collects their first four albums, remastered and with bonus tracks.
They have two showcase in this context in which they invited Greg Fitzpatrick, the man who gave Adolphson & Falk’s electronic soundscape.
The experiment was a success, and Tomas Adolphson & Anders Falk has decided to do a whole concert with this configuration on stage. Location: Saturday 19 February 2011, House of Music, Gothenburg
