The Accelerator – full featured polyphonic synth
The Accelerator, Radikal Technologies’ new flagship instrument, is a full featured polyphonic synth with eight powerful subtractive voices (expandable up to 32). With the introduction of its Radikal Spectralis synthesizer back in 2004 Radikal’s R&D department already had established a reputation for having created the best sounding synthesis engine in the world. Six years later the Spectralis’ sound quality remains unmatched – until now! Recent advances in DSP performance and the designer’s relentless perfectionism in the development of sound synthesis algorithms have taken things up yet another level. The result is this brand new polyphonic instrument sporting a sound quality never heard before from digital synthesizers.
New stuff from KMFDM
Effective immediately, Electro-industrial legends KMFDM will be releasing new material on Dependent. The first release and the band’s first single in over nine years will be “Krank”, which is German for ‘sick’. The single will feature the title track in three versions, including remixes from Skold and Komor Kommando, along with two versions of the b-side “Day Of Light”. Neither track will appear on the upcoming full length album, so both will remain exclusive to this release. Out on 10 March, the cover artwork is as usual handled by longtime KMFDM collaborator Brute.
Psychic Modulation unveils Dubtron, a bass synth for Windows
Dubtron is an Experimental Bass Synth designed for dubstep wobble bass, and more obscure bass sounds. Dubtron’s two oscillator sections utilize a special Unison detune feature where each voice has it’s own width control as well as drifting for a slow phasing effect. The filter’s each have a ‘Wub’ generator, which is the main feature responsible for that wobble effect. Layer in a sub oscillator and you’ve got a serious bass machine. These features along with various randomizers and FM capabilities give an experimental edge to your basslines, allowing for Dubtron to be used not only for bass, but also for unexpected, even atmospheric sounds.”

Robert Rich at NAMM 2011

Exploring the possibilities of microtonal and xenharmonic music making
Xen-Arts has released Xenharmonic FMTS – a 4 Operator FM Synthesis VSTi with a specialized set of features for musicians interested in exploring the expressive possibilities of microtonal and xenharmonic music making.
Xenharmonic music is music based on tuning systems other than the standard 12-tone equal tempered scale.
Xen-Arts says that the VSTi is “a gift to the xenharmonic and microtonal community, as well as to musicians and composers who are interested in exploring the exciting possibilities of microtuning in their music.”

Kinect doing Dubstep using Midi Control
The Kinect has now been hacked to allow a user to play a virtual 5 piece drum kit, as well as being able to dance to create music using synthesizers. The software: New Wave Instrument Fabric allows a user to connect both the Kinect and WiiMote up to various Midi devices and control up to 19 midi control channels simultaneously by dancing.

XBox Kinect hooked up to PC doing dubstep music controlling midi software synth with the right hand and hardware synth + fx processor with the right hand. This has to be the coolest thing I have ever touched, that includes the last motorbike I came off. To play it you have to dance; otherwise you lose sync with the oscillators and beats, I can’t believe how #’@@***ing Sik this is to play with!!!!!!!!

Sonic Charge Bitspeek is a real-time pitch-excited linear prediction codec effect. Right now you are probably thinking, “oh, another one of those”? Or perhaps not. Chances are that you have never heard about “linear prediction”, although most of us use it daily when we talk on our cell phones. Linear prediction coding is a voice compression technology that appeared in commercial products in the seventies and was implemented in some well-known speaking toys of the early eighties.
We have applied this technology to create a VST / AU effect plug-in that analyzes audio, extracts a number of parameters (including pitch, volume and formant data) and then resynthesizes the audio using a simple oscillator, noise and filter architecture.
We have added a number of playback parameters that adjusts the pitch and tonal quality of the sound as well as support for MIDI and a beat-synchronized “formant freezing effect”. Despite having only a few simple controls, this box can produce a broad range of sounds from cheap speaking toys to high-end vocoder and talkbox effects.”
