The worlds smallest synthesizer announced
Digital Sound Chips – The Underrground Scientists -has posted information on the Blue Box synthesizer, a synth inspired by Steve Jobs, Woz & 70′s phone phreaks:
The blue box was originaly a device to call for free
Used by the early hackers called phone phreaks. To the left you can see the blue box built by Steve Wozniak, on display at the Computer History Museum.
Every thing went in another direction in the early 70ties when Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak the founders of Apple the worlds largest computer company and their friend Captain Crunch, was making a “free” call from a phone booth to get some friends to pick them up. Steve Jobs was making the call as the cop showed up when Jobs was standing in the phone booth with the blue box in his hand. The Police probably thought they were like drugies or something because Wozniak had long hair. What is this, the police said? Asking about the divice that wozniak desperatly tried to hide, sneaking it into his coat pocket. When you punch the buttons they all make tones, so Wozniak said: It’s an electronic music synthesizer. The police man got them all into the police car, and drowe them down to the station, stating that a man named Moog beat them to it. And the rest is history. The thought about the blue box as a electronic music synthesizer was born.
According to the company, the Digital Sound Chips Blue Box is “the worlds smallest fully featured synthesizer”.

Rhythm Core Alpha for Nintendo DSiWare

Rhythm Core Alpha is the most advanced music creation system for the Nintendo DSi, It includes a loop sequencer, a pattern sequencer, and a unique solo mode that let’s you solo along with your sequences. Greenhouse” is a small but awesome ReFill which is based on samples coming from the very popular and famous Synplant software synthesizer – probably one of the most innovative plugins of recent years. 35 combinator patches provide an insight into the great and highly characterful sound capabilities Synplant has to offer: Greenhouse patches sound deep and murky – sometimes wishful and dreamy – but overall atmospheric and full of Synplant character… In addition, some “One-Shot-FX” kits are included to let you produce glitchy electro beats. Mick Karn (Japan) has left us
It’s with profound sadness that we have to inform you that Mick finally lost his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at 4.30pm today, 4th January 2011 at home in Chelsea, London. He was surrounded by his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all.
Japan performing Life In Tokyo at their last ever concert in Nagoya, Japan (16/12/1982).The lads are joined on stage by Sandii, John Punter and members of the road crew in a very light-hearted performance.
The quality is dreadful, but the atmosphere and historical value far outshines any other considerations…
