Vintage Tape Machine Plug-In

February 1, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Vintage Tape Machine Plug-In

CD Sound Master has announced the release of VTM-M2, a vintage tape machine plug-in for Windows.

This Plug-In represents over five years of research, testing, and development, and more than a year of additional coding and development, and represents a collaboration between Michael Angel and Michael Heiler, also know as “Mx2″, or “Michael Times Two”.

The VTM-M2 is a saturating tape compressor, capable of high end mastering-quality limiting and tape compression, and multi-track tape uses from subtle to heavily driven gain. It represents a new level in realism for tape compression, and is the long-awaited “3rd stage” tape compression for use with CDSoundMaster’s R2R and TB+ Program Libraries for the Nebula Pro Plug-In.

The VTM-M2 is the first Plug-In of its kind and it represents our original development process called “Virtual Interactive Signal Chain Technology”, where the response of the Plug-In is completely based upon the musical element that it processes. The entire technology is based upon how electronics sound and adapt to real musical content.

VTM-M2 features

  • Windows PC VST 32 Bit (x64 coming soon).
  • Two operating modes for “low” and “high” calibration.
  • MIDI automated recall and parameter change for all processes.
  • Full DAW session recall.
  • Carefully created, usable presets.
  • Extremely complex technology for the utmost in analog realism.
  • Low CPU usage for use on all tracks in complex sessions.

VTM-M2 for Windows (VST) is available to purchase for the introductory price of $149 USD until February 15, 2011. Nebula Pro R2R customers can get a special customer discount.

Note: If you are considering purchasing both the VTM-M2 and R2R, make sure that you purchase R2R FIRST in order to receive the largest discount on VTM-M2.

Worked out this track to play live on ‘The City Rises’, a weekly radio show on 3RRR fm.

I’m using an older version of the software MLRV, soon to be released here: parallelogram.cc/mlrv/

Still a work in progress…

Turning the subway system into an interactive string instrument

February 1, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Turning the subway system into an interactive string instrument

Conductor turns the New York subway system into an interactive string instrument. Using the MTA’s actual subway schedule, the piece begins in realtime by spawning trains which departed in the last minute, then continues accelerating through a 24 hour loop. The visuals are based on Massimo Vignelli’s 1972 diagram.

Kutter – a nice frequencies cutter effect

February 1, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Kutter – a nice frequencies cutter effect

Kutter is a frequencies cutter effect. Cuts frequencies on the 12 bands easily and synchronizes the effect on the beat with the 16 steps modulation sequencer. It’s key features are that it cuts frequencies easily, on 12 bands from bass to mid range, high mid and treble ranges. There is an on board “Sharp” and “Boost” effect. The effect can be modulated with the 16 step sequencer synced with the BPM of your digital audio workstation. Control the speed of the steps and change the play direction of the sequence. All parameters can easily be assigned to MIDI controllers. You can use the learn parameter by moving the control on your MIDI controller to assign MIDI controllers to the buttons. Users can also randomly generate an effect with a single click and cancel changes on all buttons just as easily.

Feature highlights

* 12 bands frequencies cutter
* 16 steps modulation sequencer
* Sequencer play forward or reverse
* Full MIDI automation
* Easy MIDI learn on all parameters
* Use 7-bit MIDI Continuous Controller or High resolution 14-bit MIDI NRPN and RPN
* Phase inverter, Effect bypass, Gain boost
* Works in mono or strereo
* Patch manager, rename, copy, save, load…
* Undo your changes to initial patch value
* Randomize parameters position
* 32 Factory presets
* Up to 128 user presets per bank
* Easy installer
System requirements

* 1.2GHz CPU or higher with SSE
* 512MB RAM or higher
* Microsoft® Windows® 7, XP (SP2 or later), or Vista™

Sound in Motion – all about the Hartmann Neuron Synthesizer

February 1, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Sound in Motion – all about the Hartmann Neuron Synthesizer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3waFytr8CQ

this was the promotional DVD produced in 2004 for the Neuron.

The German-made Hartmann Neuron was a polyphonic synthesizer that attempted to break new ground using a new form of synthesis and sound-modeling they say was based on technology found in neural networks. What the Neuron actually does is it analyzes audio files (samples) and creates digital computer models of these sounds which can then be re-synthesized and processed using the extensive amount of on-board data-wheels and joysticks with control of more ‘musical’ sonic aspects such as instrument shape, size and acoustic behavior. The joysticks allow for real-time tweaking of up to three parameters at once – 3D modeling in a true 5.1 surround sound environment.

The Neuron shipped with 200 modeled sounds already in its memory, but using their proprietary software application, ModelMaker (Mac/Win) a user can add their own sampled sounds to be modeled by the Neuron’s neural network, and these can be stored in the user memory banks (sounds could be brought into the Neuron via analog, S/PDIF or USB connections). Instead of oscillators, the Neuron uses Resynators, of which it has two. Each resynator holds a single model (you can freely assign any models in memory to each resynator to build your sound). Each resynator has a joystick that lets you adjust the ‘scape’ and the ‘sphere’ of the sound. ‘Scape’ refers to the generation properties of a sound (such as the excitation source in a real instrument), ‘sphere’ would contain all parameters referring to the properties of the resonating ‘instrument’ body. The Neuron’s Blender function lets you mix the results of the two resynators in a variety of ways, including morphing and crossfading. It even lets you manipulate one resynator using another.
