Introducing Futulele – new Ukulele app for the iPad and the iPhone

March 5, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Introducing Futulele – new Ukulele app for the iPad and the iPhone

FUTULELE is an upcoming Ukulele synthesizer for iOS. Although it can work on a single iPad, similar to our well-known guitar synth OMGuitar (http://amidio.com/omguitar), Futulele really shines with a special guitar-shaped case that holds both an iPad and an iPhone, which are connected to each other via Bluetooth. iPhone is used to define the chords and iPad is used for strumming.

We have managed to reduce the chord switch lag to a minimum level and capture every little nuance of a high-grade professional Ukulele instrument. You can use up to 12 chords for each song, and change chord sets on the fly. Full recording and sharing possibilities come straight from OMGuitar, as well as the effects section.

We are currently looking for manufacturers who are willing to produce Futulele cases, preferrably with embedded speakers. Please contact us if you have any ideas! www.amidio.com

Patch Chord in context

Using the Erthenvar Patch Chord to generate chords in a Eurorack system. Visit http://erthenvar.com

Erthenvar Patch Chord – a bank of 25 “Oscillator Controlled Oscillators”, which can be used to generate chords in a Eurorack system.

The Patch Chord continously samples the cycle duration and duty cycle of the input waveform. It outputs 12 semitone steps above the input note, 12 semitone steps below the input note, and the root note itself (available from two output jacks). All outputs are pulse waveforms with continuously variable pulse width.

An oversized tri-color LED spans the color spectrum in each octave, so each note has a unique color! The input jack is passively multipled to an output jack so the visual effects of the LED can be had even if the module is not part of the current patch.

There four modulation types available, each with an input jack and a three-position switch. The switch can turn off the modulation, allow the CV value to control the parameter, or turn on the modulation. The modulation jacks are all DC coupled and respond to audio rate signals, though the tracked waveform has a lower limit of around 20 seconds per cycle.

  1. The SQR modulation forces the tracked duty cycle to 50%, making all of the 25 outputs into square waves
  2. The INT modulation changes the relationship between each output from a semitone step to an integer or harmonic step
  3. The ZERO modulation resets all of the output counters to 0, similar to a sync function
  4. The HOLD modulation stops tracking the input and keeps the last counted cycle duration and duty cycle values

New Analog Elemental Series to be revealed at Musikmesse

March 5, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on New Analog Elemental Series to be revealed at Musikmesse

SPL has been in touch to tell us that they will arrive at this year’s Musikmesse in Frankfurt with a rack full of novelties, including 13 brand new units of its Analog Elemental Series — One single unit, two modules, one 19-inch rack space.

The German manufacturer has created 13 Elemental units combining six modules. This means you can have a Premium or Preference two-channel preamp or a single-channel preamp perfectly matched with processors like a De-Esser, a DynaMaxx compressor, a TwinTube processor, or the Transient Designer second generation. If you would rather have processing capabilities only you can have a DeEsser combined with a DynaMaxx or two TwinTubes, for example.

SPL CEO Hermann Gier, told Sonic State, “The Analog Elemental Series enhances our product line in two different ways. First of all, we now have the exceptional preamps of the RackPack modular series in the traditional 19-inch format. Secondly, this series offers perfect front end and processing combinations for any situation ranging from pure preamplification to specific processing needs for vocals and instruments. This allows for any possible configuration to come true.”

Pricing and Availability:
The prices have not been announced yet, but they will be disclosed during the Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany.

Glorious 8-bit sound of the Cheetah SpecDrum for Kontakt

March 4, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Glorious 8-bit sound of the Cheetah SpecDrum for Kontakt

Rhythmic Robot’s has released SpecDrum 2000, a 24-bit sampled Kontakt instrument of the Cheetah SpecDrumand its three add-on sound packs.

The SpecDrum was Cheetah’s first foray into drum machines, pre-dating its popular MD8 and MD16 hardware units, and took the form of a hardware expansion to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum home computer. Once the SpecDrum expander had been plugged into the Spectrum’s expansion port, the user could load up dedicated drum pattern editing software that played the eight onboard samples of the SpecDrum. These were 8-bit samples of real instruments. The add-on sound packs came on cassette, and could load in three further drum kits: Afro, Latin and Electro.

SpecDrum 2000 samples all four kits at 24-bit quality and spreads them across four octaves for instant access. The UI allows access to level, pan and tuning controls for the kit pieces, plus a group of Effects which operate across the whole kit. These comprise Tube saturation, Drive distortion, Bit-reduction (to take those 8 bits down even further) and buss compression. Subtle velocity control of kit piece volume is built in for “humanising” if needed.

bringing sexy back

ThrillseekerLA not only introduces way smooth gain riding capabilities but first and foremost features a non-linear amplifier stage which is based on a non-linearity with memory yielding creamy signal coloration duties:

  • Custom algorithms based on a true stateful non-linear saturation model
  • Compression and load dependent 2nd order harmonic distortion generation
  • Controllable odd order total harmonic distortion generation
  • Six individual preset distortion profiles offering different tonal qualities like warmth and top-end sheen or simply improved depth perception
  • Authentic audio transformer simulation including typical LF distortions as well as frequency and load dependent analog circuit effects

Additive ensemble for Reaktor

Salamanderanagram has released yet another Reaktor synth. Available for download at his site.

Skywarp is the second ensemble of the Transformers series. It is a polyphonic additive synthesizer that can morph between four sounds for each preset. The morphing capabilities are inspired by FM8 and by Stephan Schmitt’s ensemble Scanner and can be controlled by hand, by MIDI or via automation using the same modulation network as Optimus Prime.

Korg SQ-10 Demo feat. SQ-10, MS-50, and KR-55

March 3, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Korg SQ-10 Demo feat. SQ-10, MS-50, and KR-55

Demonstration video of the Korg SQ-10 sequencer.
KR-55 triggering SQ-10. SQ-10 controlling MS-50 oscillator, filter, and envelope generator.

A very good old-school sequencer from Korg. Designed for the MS series synthesizers and using Korg’s CV / Gate control the SQ-10 sequencer can really surprise you with some groovy basslines. Three channel output allows pitch, tone color and timing variation. Use the knobs to adjust and build up a sequence. Sure it’s limited to 12 steps (with a max of 24) but when you hook that up to your MS-10, MS-20 or MS-50 you can get some pretty cool TB-303 like stuff happening. Because the SQ-10 outputs CV (Control Voltage) it can also be connected to the Oscillators, VCF filters or LFO’s of your MS synths for even cooler tricks. Using a CV / Gate converter allows you to use the SQ-10 with other Roland, Moog, Sequential and even MIDI synthesizers.
