Reason refill: Thor Source v4 – Analog Power For The Reason Rack!
“Thor Source v4” is adequately emulating a well known classic from Moog: the Source. Thor’s modular design gave us the chance to rebuild the Source’s details with great accuracy. Then we copied our favorite Source patches with great ease into Thor and after this we managed to take those sounds numerous steps further. The sounding results however stayed amazingly close to the Source’s character. In this ReFill’s documentary folder you’ll find proof of this. Thor makes the Source polyphonic and velocity sensitive as well. By now you’ll understand that this ReFill goes way beyond only emulating the past. Thor Source offers you deep and fat basses, retro and nu style leads, wonderfull keyboard sounds, mouth watering pads, analog drums and more. Version 2 & 3 added four sampled raw oscillator settings from the original synthesizer as also fully sampled Moog Source sounds, new combinator patches and new backdrops.
Version 4 adds 15 new combinator patches, 10 new rex loops and a reworked folder structure for a much easier use of this ReFill.

Metroland is a synth-pop band from Belgium making music, heavily inspired by bands like Kraftwerk, Komputer, OMD, Orbital, Marsheaux and many others. Their 2012 debut album “Mind The Gap” (GAP001) was hailed worldwide due to its original vintage electronic sound, mixed with up tempo sequences and paced bass sounds. Metroland came in touch with OMD singer Andy McCluskey in April 2012 when he fell in love with the Düsseldorfer influences from Metroland. The chance a band like OMD making a song about Metroland, coincidentally the name of the Belgian band, simply had to result in a mix-treatment by Metroland in their very particular style. Yet, with very much respect for the original OMD version.
This Metroland video, which is an unofficial OMD video, accompanies the full length version of the remix represents a journey through the typical 19th century English landscape around greater London up until London as we know it today. The viewer can discover numerous historical artefacts linked to the original Metro-land incorporating the OMD artwork for their latest album “English Electric. All of this is gently dipped in a sauce of psychedelic and joyful moving images, mingled with synthetic vintage electronics.
“We both hate those darn f*cked up club mixes where you can barely recognize something of the original. We started all from scratch. So, every sequence and bass line, melody was played a-new (we did not have a MIDI file), and we searched for new sounds. In the end, it became a more orchestral mix spiced up with the typical bass sounds from METROLAND, along with our famous layered sequences.”

SNOG – Everything Is Under Control
Australia’s SNOG is back, with a new album and a new video. The “Everything Is Under Control” video is taken from the album “Babes In Consumerland” which will be out on April 23rd. It will be the band’s first album since 2010’s “The Dissolving Satellite of Egoism Overturned”. For this album David Thrussell is joined by such collaborators as Atom TM, Felix Kubin, Ash Wednesday, John Justin Stewart (Grace Jones) and The City of Prague Philharmonic Choir.

BBC interview with Karl Bartos – watch it here
Karl Bartos, former member of electronic pioneers Kraftwerk and Elektric Music, was on BBC 6 Music yesterday speaking to Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie about his recent album, Off The Record.
Comprising material from his Kraftwerk days right up to the present, the album takes in a range of influences and emotions in an attempt, says Bartos, to cover the whole “European landscape”. Amongst discussing British weather and northern soul, when asked about his Kraftwerk roots and the influence it has on his solo work, Bartos said: “I’m not trying to get away [from being that guy], but I am ambivalent.”

The Juno-60 synthesizer is a six-voice polyphonic synthesizer. The single digitally controlled oscillator (or DCO for short) per voice gave the Juno-60 a high degree of stability in maintaining tune; most analogue voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) of the time would tend to drift in pitch and require re-tuning of the oscillator. The DCO provides sawtooth and square/pulse waveforms as a sound source, in addition to white noise and a square-wave suboscillator pitched one octave beneath the key played. Both of these additional sources can be mixed in with dedicated sliders.
The filters and envelope on the Juno-60 rely on control voltages sent by depressing the keys on the keyboard and were thus analogue. The Juno-60 features a rather distinctive-sounding 24 dB/octave lowpass filter with resonance. Unlike other VCF’s of the day, the Juno-60’s is capable of self-oscillation and thus could be used to some degree as a tone generator in and of itself. The filter section also features controls for envelope amount and polarity, LFO modulation, and keyboard tracking. In addition, a three-position non-resonant highpass filter is provided to thin out lower frequencies.
The signal is then sent through a voltage-controlled amplifier (or VCA) and a simple four-stage ADSR filter envelope.
The Juno-60 provides limited options for modulating the audio signal. A single triangle-wave variable-rate LFO is provided as a modulation source; this can be mixed into the DCO to create vibrato or into the lowpass filter to generate a tremolo effect. The LFO can either be triggered manually by the left hand using a large button above the pitch bend lever or set to engage automatically whenever a key was pressed.
