Sequential 2.0 – new version of Sinevibes multi-effect sequencer
Sinevibes today announced version 2.0 of Sequential, its multi-effect sequencer for OS X.
Sequential features a wide variety of algorithms designed to filter, distort and even synthesise sound. You can ‘add subtle spice or completely warp everything’.
Here’s what’s new in Sequential 2.0:
- Completely new user interface.
- Effect dry/wet balance control.
- Faster and smoother effect switching algorithm.
- Two new effects: phaser and frequency shifter.
- Fixed ring modulator effect losing quality after some time.
- Fixed synchronisation issue when host transport location is a negative number.
- Added required Audio Unit format changes for OS X 10.7 and 10.8.
- Removed support for Power PC processors and OS X 10.5.
- New preset patches.
Sequential works with Logic, GarageBand, Live, MainStage, Maschine, Studio One, ReNoise, Reaper, Bidule and other software that supports Audio Unit effect plugins. It comes in 32/64 bit format for Intel Macs running OS X 10.6 or later, and supports Retina screen resolution.
Sequential 2.0 is available for OS X for US $39.

Vocals were performed with the DECTalk Express. The same speech synthesizer used by Stephen Hawking back in the eighties. The main vocals are the Betty and Rita presets overlapped. Kit and Dan vocal presets were also used.
Back in 2009 I used an 8 inch floppy drive in my Bohemian Rhapsody video but this time I wanted to update it with Sammy1am’s Arduino version. I find 3.5 inch floppy drives only sound good when playing short duraton notes with a fast tempo.

Experimental: Wiimote + Pocket Lighter = Synth Control
A MIDI synthesizer is controlled by a Wiimote. As infrared source, a pocket lighter is used. It works also with a candle, a halogen lamp or most other IR sources. Up/down controlles the pitch of the oscillator, while left/right controlles the cutoff frequency of the
low-pass filter.

Making the most of your next second hand shop visit:
At second hand sales there are often piles of old analog computer modems that absolutely nobody wants. But it can be worthwile to go through the piles because amongst those seemingly useless plastic boxes there can be little treasures that looks like a modem but certainly isn’t.
I found this little box at a Y-mens money raising sale and because they thought it was just another old modem I got it for the equivalent of 2$ (which some people say is written $2). But I knew that it wasn’t because modems ususally doesn’t come with a MIDI interface.
There wasn’t anything wrong with it so I took the lid off it only to see what was inside. I have used it in the music that I play in this video for all the piano sounds and most of the strings. The rest is played on Roland RA-30 arranger, JX-8P synthesizer and Technics SX-C600 organ.
