Sonic Potions LXR build and jam with Shruthi-1
Time lapse build of the Sonic-Potions LXR digital drum synthesizer and some messing around with it for the first time. All sounds come from the LXR and the Shruthi-1. The Shruthi is slaved to the LXR and is just playing the equivalent midi notes as the drum sounds. The LXR is being run through a hardwire RV-7 pedal (seen directly north of the LXR). I am sure that this is only scratching the surface of the LXR’s capabilities.
Clavia Nord Modular (and G2) editors + Microsoft Surface Pro demo
This demo goes through using the Nord Modular (0:00) and G2 (6:00) editors on the Surface Pro.
If you want to just know “Does the Surface Pro work well with these editors?” my answer is ‘yes, but…’
The ‘but’ being that it seemed most useful using the pen throughout. While I at first felt that your fingers would work fine for knob twisting and such, even on the Nord Modular editor (not G2), I looked back at the video and felt that my finger still had trouble catching the knobs. However, I would say WITH the pen, you would have very little trouble using the editors. I hope you enjoyed the video and that it provided you with some insight into this combination. New Ableton Live instrument library with sounds from Moog Prodigy
ProdMod is a new Ableton instrument library with sounds derived from a customized Moog Prodigy. The Prodigy that was sampled has got a breakout connection with a handmade patchbay attached to it. This allows to interrupt and split the synth’s internal wirings and therefore offers much more sonic possibilities that go far beyond the off-the-shelf version.
ProdMod Live Pack contains 30 multi-sample instruments in Abletons Live’s Rack format that transfer the sound of this vintage mono synth into today’s music production environments.
The library delivers diversified material as the source for fat basslines, lively synth and keyboard sounds, warm pads or idiosyncratic oddities.

Kebu – Just Another Space Odyssey (Live @ Assembly 2013)
Kebu live at the Assembly Computer Festival at Hartwall Arena, Helsinki, 2.8.2013. Real-time computer graphics by VJ Julius Tuomisto and his Z Vector software. Many many thanks to the amazing crew at Assembly for not only arranging the concert but also filming and broadcasting the show (the whole show was streamed online in realtime)!
The song was performed using only analog synthesizers, either played live or sequenced. The performance was recorded directly from the mixer to a stereo track and later mixed together with the ambience from the arena. A few mistakes have been cut out and replaced with the audio from a rehearsal take.
Equipment used in this song: Roland JX8P, Juno 60, Alpha Juno 1&2, TR-808; Moog Source, Korg Polysix, Poly 61; Jomox AirBase99, Touched-by-sound DRM1, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Yamaha RS7000 (only for MIDI sequencing), Behringer DDX3216, Lexicon MPX500, as well as a midi patchbay and additional preamps for my mixer.
Buchla Music Easel Quick Start & Overview
Buchla’s instruments, such as the Music Easel, use a different method of timbre generation than Moog synthesizers. Moog units use oscillators with basic function generator type waveshapes and rely heavily on filtering with 24dB resonant low-pass filters, while Buchlas are geared toward complex oscillators using frequency modulation, amplitude modulation, and dynamic waveshaping to produce other forms of timbre modulation. Many of Don Buchla’s designs, including the Low-Pass Gates (later called Dynamic Managers) contain vactrols, photoresistive opto-isolator employed as voltage-controlled potentiometers, which contribute to a very “natural” Buchla sound.
At the January, 2012 NAMM show, Buchla & Associates announced new ownership, retaining Don Buchla as Chief Technology Officer and investment in the design, manufacturing, and marketing of Buchla products and the development of an expanded product line, and the company moving forward under the name Buchla Electronic Musical Instruments. One year later, Buchla Electronic Musical Instruments re-introduced the Buchla’s Music Easel.
