This generator is the first of its kind and allows for extraordinarily detailed control over the dynamic spectrum of the noisy part of sounds. Despite its complexity it’s pretty easy to use and integrates naturally into the sound design philosophy of Addictive Synth.

Ethero 2 Live Demo
Ethero is the iPhone’s answer to the etherophone, or Theremin as it’s better known. The Theremin is one of the earliest electronic instruments ever created and it’s now famous for it’s signature eerie sound.
The traditional Theremin is usually controlled without any physical contact, with the player using each hand to control both the pitch and the volume of the sound. Ethero works in a slightly different way, but it still attempts to emulate the real instrument! Ethero takes the amount of light coming into the device’s camera and translates it into a sound frequency. So, waving your hand or another object in front of the device camera will change the pitch of the sound. The more light coming into the camera, the higher the pitch. To control the volume of the sound, simply touch the screen of the iphone and move it up and down the screen.

The video shows a couple of the preset scales in the app. The synth sounds are from the Moog Animoog which is running in background-audio mode and being controlled via virtual MIDI ports.
Ethero 2 will run on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
MIDI is sent over virtual ports, WIFI and via the Camera Connection Kit. Of course, your mileage will vary with the use of virtual MIDI ports as there’s quite a lot of processing going on. It works best on the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (and I guess ‘the new iPad’, but I can’t test that… yet!) “

Have you ever wondered why we tune our instruments the way we do?
They are usually tuned to an “equal-tempered scale”, which divides the octave into equally spaced tones and semitones. This has become the most prevalent way of tuning the instruments in the west since the 18th Century. Today, musicians use this tuning system, and the scales based on it, without ever considering other ways.
For example, in the Middle Ages European musicians generally used Pythagorean tuning, and today many traditional instruments in the Middle East and Asia are tuned according to regional systems and standards.

Harmony Systems, Inc. announced the worldwide availability of Delora lpTouch, an iPad application that functions as a remote controller for the Apple Logic Pro application program on a Mac. lpTouch is an intuitive, powerful control surface app optimized for use with Logic. It uses Logic’s built-in Open Sound Control (OSC) control surface support, so all that’s needed is a working Wi-Fi connection between the Mac and iPad.
lpTouch expands the Delora Software line of music controller apps for iOS devices and the Mac, including gbTouch and gbRemote for GarageBand.

Introducing Futulele – new Ukulele app for the iPad and the iPhone
FUTULELE is an upcoming Ukulele synthesizer for iOS. Although it can work on a single iPad, similar to our well-known guitar synth OMGuitar (http://amidio.com/omguitar), Futulele really shines with a special guitar-shaped case that holds both an iPad and an iPhone, which are connected to each other via Bluetooth. iPhone is used to define the chords and iPad is used for strumming.
