Glimpse at the new Reason 5

May 25, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Glimpse at the new Reason 5

This video offers up a first look at Reason 5 and the Dr. Octo Rex Loop Player:

The upgraded Dr. Octo Rex loop player loads eight REX loops into one player and lets you switch between them on the fly. This is designed to make  arranging a breeze – load the drum loops into one player, the guitars into another and use the sequencer to select what loop to play in a pattern-like fashion.

With eight loops to switch between, the new Rex also comes ready for the experimental minded. Set the player to retrig the loops on the beat, on the bar or on the 16th note. Or program the loops manually like in the original rex player.

For each of the eight loops, the new rex player also comes with an expanded set of per-slice settings. Set pan, pitch, filter frequency and level, reverse slices, use multiple outputs, create alternating groups of slices and much more.

Propellerhead says that this is the first peek at Reason 5, but that they’ll have more Reason 5 and Record 1.5 previews throughout this week.

New release of Record

Propellerheads Update Record

Record 1.0.1 is a free maintenance update that resolves several minor issues in Record 1.0. The update also includes a few new features, here are the highlights directly from Propellerheads:

  • Audio input/output with built-in audio hardware on Mac
Record 1.0.1 features custom audio drivers for combinations of the default audio Inputs and Outputs on Mac computers running Mac OS X 10.5 or later. This way you won’t have to create an Aggregate Device to allow for simultaneous use of audio inputs and outputs in the built-in audio hardware.
  • Pod Farm 2 support
Line 6 has just released the Pod Farm 2 application, which includes changes to the Tone format. Since the Line 6 Amp devices in Record load and save Tones, this has resulted in some changes in Record 1.0.1

    • The Line 6 Amp devices in Record 1.0.1 load Tones of the Pod Farm 1 or Pod Farm 2 format.
    • The Line 6 Amp devices in Record 1.0.1 will always save Tones in the Pod Farm 2 format. These Tones cannot be opened for editing in Pod Farm 1 – you need to use Pod Farm 2.
  • Multiple audio file import
The “Import Audio File…” function now supports import of multiple audio files at once.
  • Record Performance Automation for Audio Tracks and Mix Channel Tracks
It is now possible to send performance controllers to Audio Tracks and Mix Channel Tracks. For example, if you have a Line 6 Guitar Amp device as an insert effect, you can now use an Expression pedal to control the Wah effect (and record this as automation if you like).

Pricing and Availability:
The update is a free download for users of Record 1.0.

It looks pretty basic, but I guess it could be useful for some of you. If you’ve used dashMIDI for Propellerhead Reason, make sure to tell us what you think about it :-)

Features support for the following functions:

  • Track selection
  • Mute
  • Solo
  • Click
  • Fast Forward/Rewind
  • Record

  • Play

This application requires Propellerhead Reason running on an OS X machine & dashMIDI Server running on the same OS X machine.

Want to be a Propellerhead testpilot?

March 15, 2010 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Want to be a Propellerhead testpilot?

Do you have what it takes to be a Propellerhead Test Pilot?

At Propellerhead we make software and we’re proud of the fact that our software is so often praised for being stable and bug free. Naturally, we’d like to continue releasing software like this and we think that some of you might be able to help us out with this. We want to build a team of experienced and reliable testers who we can call on when we have something new to put through its paces. A team of Test Pilots!

As a Test Pilot, you’ll be working closely with the Propellerhead developers. You’ll be given access to early versions of products still under development, and you’ll help us test new features and designs.

You’ll be working under a non-disclosure agreement, which we take very seriously – and we expect you to, as well. Yes: you will get to see and play with secret stuff before a whole lot of other people do, but no, you’ll not be able to tell anyone about it. Do you think you can handle this?

We’re not going to lie to you – we’re looking for people who are prepared to put in the hours. Testing isn’t only about playing around with new products. It needs to be carried out methodically and meticulously. You’ll be asked to follow test instructions carefully, and devote some serious time to the testing. If you find something that looks like a bug, you’ll be expected to report it, and if it is a bug, once we’ve fixed it, you’ll be asked to make sure that we’ve fixed it properly.

We will, of course, make it worth your while. Apart from the wonderful warm and fuzzy feeling you’ll get from being a Propellerhead Test Pilot, we will take care of our testing team and make sure our pilots receive VIP treatment with discounts, special offers and more.

If you think this is something for you, then click the link below. If you make the grade, then you can expect to be working with us for some time. Hello, is it you we’re looking for?

Yes, yes! It’s me! Take me to the applicaton form!

Peff is back

January 29, 2010 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Peff is back

This is a sneak preview of Peff’s upcoming CycleOn Combinator for Propellerhead Reason + Propellerhead Record:

This is basically a loop player system that also includes several different effects and control systems into one patch, and the functionality makes it possible to create live mixing effects and tempo synchronized changes in real time. When paired with a control surface, you can create some compelling live sets.

I’ve actually made similar systems in the past, including patches like REXSelector in the factory soundbank, but CycleOn is really a step ahead thanks to the features of Thor and the multiprocessor support of Propellerhead Software Record.

Planned release date for this is March 3rd.

New free VSTs from Synthgeak and free Reason Refills

September 30, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on New free VSTs from Synthgeak and free Reason Refills

Synthgeek has released the SG-WSS1, SG-APCX and SG-APC1, three free virtual synthesizer plug-ins for Windows.

synthgeek_sg-wss1_thumb

SG-WSS1, SG-APCX and SG-APC1 details

  • SG-WSS1 — The “WSS” stands for Wave Shaping Synth. This is a subtractive synth based on an idea inspired by my K2000. By no means an emulation, it merely makes use of waveshaping techniques similar to a couple of the K2000’s DSP algorithms. Think VA with a twist, and some nice modulation options.
  • SG-APCX — This is an expanded version of the APC1 synth found below, including more filter options, distortion, and modulation via 3 LFO’s & 3 step sequencers. Think of it as a groovebox for crazy synth fx. It can also be coerced into lo-fi squelchy bassline territory, though due to it’s nature, tuning can be tricky.
  • SG-APC1 — A rather simple noise machine inspired by the Kaustic Machines Atari Punk Console. Best when tweaked or automated, as otherwise it just puts out a steady tone. Includes a basic on-off MIDI gate and a highpass filter for added usefulness.

Synthgeek’s VST plug-ins are available as freeware for Windows PC – Download them here >>
