Working seamlessly with Akai Professional’s heralded SynthStation software, SynthStation49 provides unparalleled music creation capabilities, including direct in-app MIDI recording from its velocity-sensitive keyboard, nine MPC-style drum pads and array of transport controls. In addition to its integration with the SynthStation app, SynthStation49 is also completely iOS CoreMIDI compatible, making it instantly compatible with dozens of music apps already in the App Store and hundreds more on the way.

Dock, power and position the iPad perfectly using the adjustable-angled cradle, or establish commanding control over your favorite computer software using SynthStation49‘s USB/MIDI port. Professional ¼” outputs and extreme portability ensure you’ll be able to take your sequences straight to the stage at a moments notice.

SynthStation49 is the only full-featured, professional keyboard controller allowing direct MIDI performance recording onto an iPad. Bridging Akai Professional’s popular MPK controllers with the previously released SynthStation25, SynthStation49 provides immense software control with forty-nine, full-size velocity-sensitive keys, nine backlit MPC-style drum pads and full transport buttons. An adjustable-angled dock for iPad allows the user to easily slide their tablet into the SynthStation49’s cradle and position the screen to their preference.

SynthStation49’s keyboard, pitch/modulation wheels and sustain pedal input provide great feel and the essential controls for musicians and producers to compose, record and perform. The nine drum pads of SynthStation49 give users immediate, intuitive beat-creation capabilities over the 50 classic and modern kits available within the SynthStation software. Program, Sequence, Song select and Transport buttons also provide quick navigation to the SynthStation App’s most used components for a seamless, efficient workflow.

SynthStation49 also contains a stereo pair of professional ¼” TRS outputs with volume knob for easy connecting to other pro audio equipment on stage or in the studio. A headphone output also lets users practice and compose in private. The SynthStation49’s USB port can be connected directly to a Mac or PC computer to receive power in addition to transmitting MIDI to and from music software – a great way to turn the SynthStation App or other CoreMIDI compatible App into a sound module. You can even use SynthStation49 as a traditional USB MIDI controller with your computer – no iPad required!

Experimental: Light sensing sequencer

January 20, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Experimental: Light sensing sequencer

A project I did for halfterms at HKU 15-12-2010

The entire project works with analog electronics. I used an overhead projector to project the images on an 3m x 1,50m screen. Behind the screen are 8 seperate piramids capturing the light and converting it into a pitch, the less light, the higher the pitch. The 8 step sequencer runs through the pattern and plays the corresponding pitch. I also added a filter and a control panel for the tempo, pitch and filtersettings.

Demo of the new FAIRLIGHT CMI iPad App

January 19, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

Fairlight’s iPad application simulating the series 2.

In addition to Peter Vogel, Fairlight Sampler author, showed off the latest model of the Fairlight, they also featured showed a Fairlight, Emulator for Apple iPad, Iphone and Ipod Touch.

The app is based on a Fairlight CMI Series II, and has most of the features – in addition to the connections. But the sequencer is ready and able to see the waveform is plotted in 3D. A really cool feature is that the waveform changes the perspective, depending on how you hold the iPad: one. There are also features not previously available, such as the ability to edit samplingars loop points in real time.

However, there is one difficult challenges to overcome for those who thirst after a Fairlight. When the app pops up on the Apple App Store by the end of January, it will not have the support of core midi. But it is quite possible that it will in a future update.

Nice Cubase 6 promo video

January 19, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Nice Cubase 6 promo video

  • Enhanced transient and tempo detection for easier, glitch-free drum editing and more musical detection
  • Phase-accurate audio quantization and drum replacement. (Actually, a key point here – without phase accuracy, you can create some nasty artifacts quantizing audio.)
  • Track edit groups turn comps quickly into tracks. That we’ve seen before, but Cubase does have a nice feature for editing those groups simultaneously.
  • A built-in set of guitar effects called VST Amp Rack.
  • 64-bit support on both Mac and Windows.
  • New time-stretching algorithms.

The only limitation is your imagination. Well, that and you do need a VST-compatible instrument. But remember, we invented VST, so we’ve got you covered.

New multi-channel dynamic signal analyzer and data acquisition platform

January 19, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on New multi-channel dynamic signal analyzer and data acquisition platform

Electroacoustics Toolbox is a modularized, multi-channel dynamic signal analyzer and data acquisition platform for Mac. It brings powerful new tools to the Macintosh platform for multi-channel, audio-band data acquisition and real-time analysis of electrical, acoustical, and electroacoustic signals and systems.

Electroacoustics Toolbox enables precise measurements of acoustic quantities, such as equivalent and time-weighted sound levels, as well as acoustic and electroacoustic systems, such as listening rooms and loudspeakers. The software is designed to work with any Mac-compatible audio hardware and supports multiple channels of 8, 16, 24, or 32-bit data with sample rates as high as the hardware will support.

Measurements

* Frequency response magnitude and phase
* Impulse response
* Auto and cross correlation
* Time delay (latency)
* Group delay
* Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)
* Total harmonic distortion (THD, THD+N)
* Coherence
* Crest factor and rms, peak, and peak-to-peak signal levels
* Signal mean, variance, and standard deviation values
* Flat, A, and C-weighted equivalent and time-weighted sound levels
* And many more!

Built-in Tools

* Dual FFT Analyzer (TF/IR analyzer)
* FFT Analyzer
* Meter Bridge
* Octave Analyzer (RTA)
* Oscilloscope
* Signal Generator
* Sound Level Meter
* Spectrogram
* X/Y Plotter

Electroacoustics Toolbox is a project-based application, which allows you to configure and save project files. Projects may contain one or more tools available in the toolbox, along with any captured data associated with those tools. Electroacoustics Toolbox allows for the creation of an arbitrary number of tools of a certain type, or tools of different types. For example, a project may contain an oscilloscope, two FFT analyzers, and two signal generators. The oscilloscope and FFT analyzers may each simultaneously analyze multiple input channels of a single device. However, there is no requirement that all tools must work with the same device.

The Toolbox also offers advanced capabilities for configuring input and output device parameters and assigning labels, units, and transducer sensitivities to individual input and output channels.

Electroacoustics Toolbox Features

* Hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics for fast real-time plotting
* Quartz-based graphics for high-resolution still images and prints
* Advanced control over input and output devices
* Device and individual channel calibration
* Support for units, including Volts, Amps, Pascals, and Engineering Units
* Saving complete configurations and data in project files
* Exporting data to ascii text or MAT-files for easy import into other applications
* Work with multiple independent audio devices simultaneously
* No arbitrary limits on how many devices or channels are used, or on sample rates or signal formats–these are limited only by your hardware
* Modular architecture for rapid development of additional tools, with the potential to allow third parties to develop custom plug-ins
* AppleScript support for measurement automation and remote control
