Some interesting statements I read today kind of confirms this:
Note that the following tweet early this morning by The Birthday Massacre summs it all up: “Myspace inbox: 3000+ unread. Mostly spam, I’m sure… and yet I feel like I should clean it out for the few that.” Well, dear people from The Birthday Massacre, you shouldn’t weed out the few ‘valid’ messages because you most probably won’t find any.
And if you still believe in the power of MySpace, then you should read this testcase: Alfa Matrix once (2 years ago!) did a test and found that a dedicated mailing to 17.000 MySpace friends generated 1 (one, uno, une, ein) sale over a period of 30 days while a special viral action via Facebook generated 337 sales… in just one day (!). The label immediately halted its efforts on MySpace.

The SPC is designed for Android users to produce, record and share original music incorporating their own loops and samples or those provided by mikrosonic. A 16-pad multi-touch enabled opening screen lights up rhythmically to simplify playing live. There are then five additional screens for editing samples and programming sequences
SPC can integrate content from various sources. Additional audio material is available on mikrosonic’s website, and loops created with RD3 – Groovebox are directly loaded into SPC — Music Sketchpad.

Ziggybox – the ashtray synth :-)

At first glance, Ziggybox looks like an everyday item for smokers, which one could easily find in a living room. However, it is a synthesizer that generates and modulates sounds by placing cigarettes in the notch of an ashtray or by opening a box of cigarettes.
Through simple handling and without any prior knowledge of sound synthesis, Ziggybox enables the user to produce complex levels of synthesized music.
The aim of this project is to enable access and control of a complex, digital environment, which is not usually transparent and under-standable for the common visitor. Our intention is to show that it is possible to conceptualize the creative utilisation of computer software in a casual way, by an interface, which initially seems to be unsophisticated in its manipulation. With this, the user is able to easily approach and control the system functionality of Ziggybox.
As the use of everyday objects are familiar to all, the interface serves as an open and easily approachable invitation for use. With this type of interface, where digital and physical boarders are blurred, it helps to open up a new relationship between technology and humans.
The project utilised C++ and Open Frameworks as the basic platform. The characteristics of the sounds are changed by frequency and amplitude modulation, while the light-sensors control the sound synthesis. Our intention is also to give
the colour arrangement a special importance and the objects on the box are arranged in order to reinforce the possibility of interaction with common objects.

Noise Hero Kit Now Available
Noise Hero kits are now available to buy from http://www.symetricolour.etsy.com in USD and http://www.folksy.com/shops/ChrisDodsworthDesign in the GBP. There is also a pre built version for sale.
The Noise Hero is a lofi noise maker with a lot of routing options built onto a piece of stripboard using a 4093 quad nand chip. This video shows some of the example sounds that are located on the CD rom that comes with the noise hero.

Analog Drums (Modular Univox SR-55)
Here’s a modular Univox SR-55, AKA Korg Mini pops 3. I’ve removed it from it’s odd-shaped case and reworked the circuitry to fit into my second modular synth cabinet. The pattern producing circuitry has been removed, as the drum machine has been fitted with proper trigger inputs.
Each trigger input uses a simple op-amp inverter to produce the negative polarity triggers this machine requires. By varying the pulse width of the trigger, different sounds can be produced.
This sequence is produced by a clock divider, as well as a sample and hold circuit.
