Subaqueous Releases Free Hang Drum Instrument For Ableton Live
The hang uses the principles of steel drums to create a melodic and rhythmic instrument. From recordings of the Hang, Subaqueous has put together an Ableton Live pack as well as some great one hit samples. Below is a live set for Ableton Live 8.2 that includes the 3 instruments I have created. There are two basic instruments that are the Hang — One is “light” the other is “hard” hits. The other instrument is called Western Hang. It takes the limited hang notes and turns them into a complete western scale.

“Firecracker” (by YMO) – played on an ARP Axxe
Always an YMO fan 
I recorded this two years ago using only analogue equipment. The audio is entirely digital-free, except for the transfer to PC and YouTube’s compression. No sequencing here!
I reluctantly sold the Axxe earlier this year (but she’s gone to a good home!), so I dug out this old recording and added some very silly images for a quick video to put on YouTube as a tribute to this great beast of a machine.

Free single from Simple Minds – Stagefright
In early October 2010 Simple Minds completed four weeks in London’s Sphere Recording studios during which four songs at least were recorded and mixed. The sessions, produced by Andy Wright and engineered and mixed by Gavin Goldberg, resulted in an 8-minute long version of “In Every Heaven” (originally recorded in 1982 during the “New Gold Dream” sessions) and 3 entirely new compositions: “Stagefright”, “On The Rooftop” and “Broken Glass Park”. 2 of the tracks were to appear in an extensive Greatest Hits compilation to be released – but eventually delayed – in early 2011.
“Stagefright” has now been released as a free download for everyone after it was was made available on the 3rd June 2011 as an exclusive free download for members at Simpleminds.com and fans of the Official Simple Minds Facebook Page. Since then it surfaced here and there as fans spread it around.
The band is currently working on their 16th studio album due to be released in 2012.

Doepfer A188-1 BBD Basics

Module A-188-1 is a so-called Bucket Brigade Device module (abbr. BBD). BBDs have been used to delay audio signals before digital delays dethroned the BBD based effect units. But BBDs have some very unique advantages (or disadvantages dependent on the point of view) over the digital counterpart which result from the special properties of the BBDs. BBD circuits can be treated as a chain of Sample&Hold units (S&H) which pass on their voltages to the next S&H in the chain at each clock pulse. A more detailed explanation – including the different types of BBDs – can be found in following chapter.
In any case the sounds generated by module A-188-1 are very special. Typical applications are: Flanger, Chorus, Analog Delay or Karplus/Strong synthesis. But as the A-188-1 has a lot of very unique features (voltage controlled clock rate / delay time with extreme range, polarity switches for the CV inputs, feedback and BBD out/mix, clock and CV output of the high speed VCO, BBD clock input, feedback insert, feedback up to self-oscillation) a lot of unusual applications can be realized with the module (e.g. delay controlled by ADSR, envelope, random or sequencer with positive or negative effect). The A-188-1 also has no built-in anti-alisaing filter in order not to limit the possibilities of the module. For this the CV out is intended.
