New version of Voxengo’s Voxformer
Voxengo has updated its Voxformer multi-functional vocal channel strip plugin for
Windows and Mac to version 2.7.
The coolest feature of Voxformer is its one-knob vocal compressor. Using only a single knob, you can get a tight, open and definitive professional vocal sound with an excellent articulation in no time. You do not have to worry about common ratio and make-up gain controls since they are automatically selected by the advanced compression algorithm while attack and release parameters are stored in a mode preset.
Changes in Voxformer v2.7
- Native 64-bit AudioUnit and VST support on Mac OS X added.
- Crossover frequency can be now set on the equalizer control
surface.
Note that on Mac computers, Soniformer now supports Mac OS X v10.5 and higher only, running on Intel processors. Mac PowerPC support is not available.

For fans of krautrock, drone, ambient, and electronic music, Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution is a fascinating history of how some of the most influential music of our times emerged from the boredom and hopelessness of 1960s Germany. The filmmakers take the subtitle of their movie very seriously, and they want to crawl back to find the Big Bang of cultural influences that would make something as innovative as Kraftwerk possible. Itâs not an unimportant question, since the ideas the electronic musical collective would establish in their 1970s output would influence everyone from glam rockers like David Bowie and Brian Eno to early hip-hop pioneers and New Wave bands like Duran Duran, and on into today, where techno and arty experimentalists like Radiohead still borrow from the German groupâs bag of tricks. Even wuss-rockers Coldplay lifted the hooks for their song âTalkâ from âComputer Love,â somehow achieving the impossible and proving one could actually be bigger nerds than the pasty originals, Florian Schneider and Ralf HĂźtter. And that Kraftwerk core duo likes to dress up as robots, so you know theyâre plenty nerdy.
Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution traces the rise of German music back to the influx of British bands that went to the European country to ply their trade in the early 1960s. (The Beatles most famously cut their teeth in Hamburg nightclubs.) At that point, German youth were looking to establish a new identity that embraced the freedom of the West and finally unshackled them from the shame of their countryâs pastâmuch in the same way Pete Townshend has argued that British rock stood in direct defiance of an older generation in England who were always rubbing past glories in the faces of their children. Though German musicians initially copied their British idols, who themselves were copying African American blues musicians, eventually they would want something that was more in tune with their own experience. For the curious:
* Circles grow at a constant rate.
* No two circle can overlap.
* Bigger circle pushes and shrinks smaller circle when in contact.
* A circle “pops” and makes a sound when its boundary intersects with the center of another circle.
* The pitch of the sound is determined by the position of the circle on the background. Bigger the hole, higher the pitch.
* The envelope of the produced sound is determined by a number of parameters including final circle size and time of interaction between two involved circles.

Slightly off topic but really nice 
Time-lapse footage taken at the Very Large Array in Socorro, New Mexico; one of the largest Radio Astronomy Observatories in the world.
As a learning exercise, and something to challenge myself, I wanted to try to combine two of my favorite things: motion-graphics and time-lapse photography.
I also wanted to see if I could stretch my editing techniques a little further.
The VLA really is a legitimately amazing thing to see in person. If you’ve ever considered making a visit, you should.
It’s an awe-inspiring feat of human engineering, and the surroundings are gorgeous. Unbelievable skies in New Mexico. I caught some nasty weather, but it was still a great experience. I’m definitely going back!

This video is a step-by-step tutorial describing Ableton Live 8’s new custom parameter mapping methodology. The video illustrates how to map select parameters from VST plug-ins into devices and then control these parameters via the Novation Remote SL and the new Akai APC40. The video also discusses how to add and access more than 8 parameters. Lastly, the video covers use of instrument racks and macro controls to map parameters from multiple devices to an 8 knob group.
