Elektron Analog Four + Machinedrum Dirty Techno
“Slow-paced techno with lots of dirt and grit, thanks to the overdriven analog filter through which the drums are routed. Camera stopped recording beyond 10mins, but went on jamming anyway.”
Advance Mobile Drummer – new drum machine app for the iPad
Beats ‘n’ Bobs has introduced Advance Mobile Drummer – a drum machine app for the iPad.
Here’s what they have to say about it:
If you are a guitarist or vocalist who needs a backing rhythm or perhaps your drummer has been abducted by aliens or blown up and you need a replacement-this could be just what you need!
Features:
- Acoustic and electronic sounds.
- Real-time record or step record. Create up to 32 patterns and 8 songs using 5 tracks.
- Adjust pitch, level and decay on each drum pad or drum step and control these settings over time as part of your pattern. You are not limited to just one sound per track as each step can have its own sound.
- You can also adjust levels of swing from 0 to 7 (extreme).
- Auto track assigns each pad to a track automatically.
- Store 4 drum kit programs for the drum pads independently from patterns.
- 5 Drum pads for live play, overdubbing or recording
- Real-time triggering of patterns.
MIDI support appears to be missing in action.

MR-808 – mechanic drum robot
Moritz Simon Geist created the MR-808 – described as ‘the first drum robot that reproduces the drum sounds of the 80′s. The installation is a version of the famous Roland TR-808 – but with robots playing the drum sounds!
Let’s get physical: MR-808 is the first drum robot that reproduces the drum sounds of the 80s – in the real world.
The robot installation MR-808 is a replica of the famous 1980s electronic drum machine TR-808 – with robots playing the drum sounds! I (Moritz Simon Geist) have been playing electronic music for several years now, and at some place I was bored of the electronic music production process. With binary logic, everything is possible.
So I decided to go back to the roots of sound generation – the physical sound generation – but combine it with the electronic music structure we like so much.
I liked the idea so much, that I couldn’t stop building my own drum robots, and ended up replacing all the electronic sounds of a whole drum computer, placed in a 3,3 x 1,7m² case. I am very proud to present the “MR-808” – a mechanic replica of the famous 1980s electronic drum machine TR-808!

Roland MC-505 / MC-303 Promo Video revitalized
Here is a video Jordan Passmore created using segments of a Roland promo video they released sometime in the late 90’s.
An all in one techno music production studio, this machine has it all. A massive collection of professional and coveted electronic synth and drum sounds, effects, built-in real-time VCF and envelope knobs for tweaking, a sequencer/arranger, and many other great additions. This is the successor to the MC-303 and is now much more advanced. Its sounds will be familiar to any techno-head.
The LFO and resonant filters allow quick and easy sound manipulation. The new D-Beam allows you to randomly tweak your sounds by passing your hand over an infrared beam! It has a great sequencer for building your songs (with groove quantizing and part level faders for mixing) as well as many idea catchers like the phrase sampler and arpeggiator.
This is an all-in-one music machine that’s great for DJ’s or anybody else who wants to create slamming dance tracks. Designed as a stand alone machine, they do not work quite as well when incorporated into a multi-synth keyboard rig. It’s perfect for beginners and advanced users, but offers the most possibility to those who will use it exclusively. By the way, in comparison to the MC-303, this is far better especially in the quality and quantity of sounds!

Elecktroid – Electronic Machine Funk Instrument
Audio Spillage has released Elecktroid which they describe as an ‘Electronic Machine Funk Instrument’. It’s a fusion of drum synth and and drum sampler with a custom designed rhythm sequencer. Here’s what they have to say about it:
Elecktroid effortlessly blends synthesis and sample playback in a single integrated package. Combine the depth and power of drum synthesis with your existing sample collections and sync both to a brand new rhythm oriented step sequencer with more than a few tricks up its digital sleeves.
Synthetic Heart
Pulsing away deep inside Elecktroid you’ll find 4 of our exclusive drum synthesis models: BassDrum, WoodDrum, HiHat and Snare. The drum synths are 100% algorithmic and utilise high quality DSP code for a deep, powerful and punchy sound. The synthesis algorithms can be used as the basis of an entire rhythm track on their own or layered with samples to add weight, depth and character to your existing sound sets and rhythms.
Sampler Spine
The backbone of Elecktroid is a high quality low CPU sample playback engine. Load up your favourite samples via the simple drag and drop interface. Refresh and re-animate your existing collection with the pitch envelope, modulation, distortion, filter and graphic loop editing capabilities. Elecktroid can velocity cross-fade between 2 samples per pad and accepts WAV, AIFF and CAF format files.
Sequencer Brain
The new rhythm oriented step sequencer brings Elecktroid to life right inside your DAW. Forget about stale lifeless rhythms. Elecktroid features custom track lengths and step trigger probability controls opening the door to a world of non-repetitive poly-rhythmic beats. Inject groove and humanoid feel to suit. Elecktroid’s sequencer is a resolution-independent design so patterns play at the correct tempo regardless of step length (16th, 32nd etc). Elecktroid also features graphic velocity and parameter control graph editing.

$55 (20% off intro offer)
