AtomicReverb – new algorithmic room and reverb effects processor

December 3, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

MolecularBytes has released AtomicReverb, a new algorithmic room and reverb effects processor.

With its unique combination of algorithms, AtomicReverb is designed to make it possible to design acoustic room patterns in every conceivable way and for exactly the required purpose. By supporting non-static calculation in contrast to convolution effects, infinite density, simulated air movement and full 64 bit signal processing AtomicReverb sounds very natural. In contrast to convolution or impulse-response related reverbs, AtomicReverb does not use static models. Every process renders reflections like in the reality – with all its disturbs and dynamics.

AtomicReverb provides highly configurable processing for early reflections and reverberation (late-reverb). This allows creating sounds from subtle reverbs over full and dense halls to dominant rooms or even tubes. It also lets you choose from over 170 different predefined early-reflection signatures, which are additionally changeable in size, hardness and resonance. The reverberation (or ‚late-reverb’) processing – the dense ‘floor’ of a reverberation – allows you to create infinite density, airflow movement simulation and even gated tail length (usefully for percussive sounds). With parameters like “absorption” and “reflection” effects are also possible which are not found in other reverbs.

Currently, the plug-in is available as a 32- and 64-bit version for Windows – a Mac version is planned, but a release date is not set yet.

Price: 119 Euros. There is an introductory price of 69 Euros valid until December 31, 2011. A free trial version and user manuals are available for download on the developer’s website.

Features:

  • Superior smooth and dense reverb tail
  • Optionally infinite density tail (limited by sample rate)
  • Double precision, full 64Bit internal signal processing
  • zero Latency
  • Room-Size reconstructions and spatial emulation, incoherent Stereo
  • Acurate reality using simulated airflow movement
  • Graphical displays to visualize reverb settings
  • Adjustable gated reverb duration
  • 5 Band equalizer
  • 170+ changeable early-reflection signatures to create
    individual room sounds
  • 150+ factory presets
  • Clear and easy preset-browser, handling different
    categories
  • User and factory preset grouping

Infernal Noise Machine

December 3, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Infernal Noise Machine

“Trying it out… Maths into VCAs. All sounds from the INM.”

THE INM IS NOT A MUSIC SYNTHESIZER

The Infernal Noise Machine was designed towards the creation of noise, sound effects, and for the general field of sound design. Having said that, the INM can create “musical” tones and sound – and quite a few of them – but that was not the goal. It is semi-modular, which means part of the signal path is hard-wired and cannot be changed, but it does allows some variation and external control. It can be used completely independently, but is intended for use with external control voltage (CV) sources to affect or modulate various parameters, which is where the INM truly comes alive (you will see what I mean).

So what can you do with it? Incidental sounds and ambiences, unholy caterwauling, soundscapes from melancholy to manic, even percussion and other traditional musical sounds. The Infernal Noise Machine is particularly effective for making drones that evolve with time as well, with no external sources required. The internal architecture allows for a wide range of self-evolving, beat-frequency style tonal variations over an infinite range of rates. There is really no simple way to describe what the INM can do – you have to find out for yourself. This is a unique device. It requires a bit of time and patience to get a feel for how it works, but it is worth the effort.

Elixir – True Peak Multichannel Limiter Plug-In

November 29, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Elixir – True Peak Multichannel Limiter Plug-In

Elixir is a novel kind of program limiter carefully designed to accomplish a truly pure natural sounding result without altering the nature of the audio material and its timbre. Intended to fulfil the requirements of the broadcast, post-production and mastering industry, they say that Elixir provides real True Peak output level in accordance with the ITU-R.BS 1770 and EBU R128 norms, and for surround/multichannel operation Elixir provides up to eight channels of simultaneous processing. Here’s the details directly from Flux…

User Interface And Workflow

Elixir’s straightforward interface makes it exceptionally easy to achieve great results, even under a tight deadline. Simply set the input level, adjust the Threshold according to the amount of limiting desired, and finally enable Make Up for gain compensation and loudness addition – That’s it!

For truly delicate and fine processing tasks (mastering etc.) Elixir presents a new innovative concept called Stages, providing the option to set the algorithm to perform the limiting processing in multi-stages, in order to achieve even more precise and natural sounding results.

Example: If the threshold is set to -3 dB and the ‘Stages’ parameter set to 3, the first stage will limit at -1dB, the second stage will limit at -2dB and the third will limit at -3dB, with analyzing performed in each of the three stages

Processing

The algorithm uses an oversampled representation of the audio sample as reference when defining the gain envelope, while the actual processing is applied only to the original none oversampled data, in order to reduce artefacts (like aliasing) and to achieve the most precise and excellent sounding result presenting none, or effectively reduced, conventional limiting pumping effects even during heavy processing.

In addition to Stages, Elixir present the option to run the algorithm in a higher resolution mode with even more detail put into the processing, obviously, at the cost of additional CPU-consumption.

Pricing and Availability:
USD $139.00

The Story of Reel-to-Reel Tape

Every hit album made before the 1990’s was recorded on some form of Tape… The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Queen, the list goes on and on. That’s why those songs still sound so good today, because the way they were recorded. Even today, some artists of all genres prefer analog tape’s “musical”, “natural” and especially “warm” sound. Due to harmonic distortion, bass can thicken up, creating the illusion of a fuller-sounding mix. In addition, the high end can be slightly compressed, which is more natural to the human ear. It is common for artists to record to digital and re-record the tracks to analog reels for this effect of “natural” sound. In addition to all of these attributes of tape, tape saturation is a unique form of distortion that many artists find very pleasing.

Before large hard disks became economical enough to make hard disk recorders viable, studio digital recording meant recording on digital tape. Mitsubishi’s ProDigi and Sony’s Digital Audio Stationary Head (DASH) were the primary digital reel-to-reel formats in use in recording studios from the early 1980s through the mid 1990’s. With the MAGNETIC, Nomad Factory has captured the essence of DASH technology and made the sound of high-fidelity digital tape recording available in plug-in format.
