ValhallaRoom is a versatile, true stereo algorithmic reverb
An algorithmic vision of perfection and precision. It’s Grade A class, Number One in its division.
ValhallaRoom is a versatile, true stereo algorithmic reverb. It features several original reverberation algorithms and has been designed from the ground up to produce a wide range of natural reverberation sounds. Sounds range from tight ambiences and rooms, through traditional hall and plate sounds, all the way up to vast modulated spaces. The algorithm designs have been influenced by some of the “classic” room simulation boxes, as well as state of the art modern theory.
* Unique Early reverb section allows user to dial in subtle and short bursts of early reverberation energy, as well as gated reverbs up to 1 second in length.
* The Late section produces natural reverb decays ranging from 0.1 seconds to 100 seconds. The decay can be controlled in 3 adjustable frequency bands.
* Both Early and Late reverb sections have adjustable modulation, to produce sounds ranging from lush chorusing, to subtle and natural long decays.
* ValhallaRoom is true stereo. The Early and Late reverb sections are both stereo-in, stereo-out. The spread of energy between the stereo channels can be controlled over time, which helps preserve the input spatial image.
* The GUI has been designed for easy navigation, and is inspired by Joseph Müller-Brockmann, NASA control panels, and Sesame Street.
* A comprehensive preset browser makes saving, recalling and sharing settings easy.
* Four original reverberation algorithms:
o Large Room – designed to emulate big rooms with a wide spatial impression, with smooth “detuning” modulation
o Medium Room – sparser than Large Room, with a more random modulation
o Bright Room – a lush, shinier-than-life reverb, with deep modulation and a somewhat slower attack
o Large Chamber – a smooth decay with consistent high echo density and subtle detuning modulation
ValhallaRoom has been designed from a psychoacoustic perspective. Instead of creating a simplified physical model of a simplified physical space, VRoom generates early and late acoustic energy that provides the spatial and phase cues needed to create an “idealized” room impression.”

Creative delay effect
Ditto is a creative delay effect, using randomised tempo-sync modulation to provide a constantly changing but musical delay effect. You can randomise the delay time, feedback and filter cut-off, with independent left and right channel modulation if you wish. Reverse delay can also be randomly set to change things up even more.
All delay times are tempo-synced to your host, with up to 6 different selections that can be randomly selected. The randomisation is also set to change in tempo-sync, so the results always sound musical and rhythmic (unless you don’t want that, there are some unusual sync patterns too).
You can use ditto for subtle variances in repeating patterns, constantly evolving soundscapes or just some good old random craziness. It is very suited to drum patterns and rhythmic / percussive loops, but is also great on pads, leads, basses and just about anything you’d like to randomise for effect.
• Tempo-sync, randomly-modulated, stereo delay for adding variance and randomisation to patterns
• Randomisation of delay time, feedback, filter cut-off and delay direction
• All randomised parameters can independently change in tempo-sync with host (1/32 beat to 32 beats)
• All randomised parameters can also be made static independently
• Random selection of up to 6 different delay times (1/32 beat to 32 beats)
• Delay time can be independent for the Left and Right channels
• Feedback and Filter cut-off amount of randomisation can be controlled and smoothed
• Feedback and Filter cut-off can be independent for the Left and Right channels
• Feedback direction amount of randomisation can be controlled
• Filter resonance control
• Overdrive control on the feedback signal
• Wet / dry control on the feedback signal
• Developed with SE 1.1
Faithful model of the rare tube-powered Aural Exciter®
Waves has released Waves Aphex, the vintage aural exciter developed in association with Aphex.
When it was originally introduced in the mid-1970s, the Aphex Aural Exciter® brought its distinctive sound to select sessions by leading recording artists, traveling from studio to studio as an exclusive (and expensive) rental unit.
A true groundbreaker, the original Aural Exciter was highly regarded for its ability to increase and enhance presence, brightness, and vibrancy on vocal and instrumental tracks alike. It was even credited as a “session player” on best-selling albums by the likes of Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor, engineered by Val Garay, who worked closely with us on the development of the plugin.
Modeled on one of only a few tube-powered units ever made, the new Waves Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter plugin delivers all the unique character of the rare original hardware unit, with all the advantages of software.
Waves Aphex features
- Faithful model of the rare tube-powered original.
- Adds brightness, vibrancy and depth.
- Increases presence without raising levels.
- Perfect for vocal and instrumental tracks alike.
- Mix and AX modes for insert or send configurations.
- Mono and stereo components.
- Up to 24bit/192kHz resolution.
- Supports TDM, RTAS, Audio Suite, VST, AU.
- PC and Mac compatible.
Waves Aphex is available to purchase for $240 USD (Native) / $500 USD (TDM).

Free plug-ins from Soundhack
Soundhack’s Tom Erbe has released new versions of all of his plugins for Mac, in Audio Unit and VST forms.
The free plugins include:
- +spectralcompand – Performs smooth timbral filtering. Can be used to tame resonant frequencies or for radical changes of tone. In expansion mode, +spectralcompand becomes a highly tunable broadband noise remover, capable of removing hiss, hum and machine noise, without damaging the original sound.
- +morphfilter – Holds two filter shapes. These shapes are set by drawing, or by capturing the spectra from the incoming sound. You can morph between these two filters. +morphfilter’s depth control can change the strength of filtering, or even invert the filter for an “anti-filtered” sound.
- +binaural – This filter places a sound at a specific position around the listener’s head. Use it with a reverb to create a virtual environment. When used with it’s LFO, +binaural can place various beats or parts of a loop in specific repeatable positions.
- +spectralgate – A spectral version of the noise gate/ducker dynamics processor. Combines a noise gate/ducker and a multiband processor to give you a plugin that can used both as a frequency dependent gate or as a level dependent filter.
- SoundHack Delay Trio – a group of three plugins derived from the same basic delay algorithm: a hermite interpolated delay line with variable modulation, and a feedback loop with dc blocking and saturation. Pitch shifting is achieved with a dual head crossfading delay (ala Eltro Tempophon/Dennis Gabor/Pierre Schaeffer phonogene) and is decidedly low-?. The saturating feedback also allows them to be great drone and noise generators.
- +chebyshev – a distortion unit which uses various low-order chebyshev polynomials to add even or odd harmonic distortion.
- +compand – a combined compressor/expander plugin. It has a softknee control as well as a switchable rms/peak level detector.
- +decimate – bit depth and sample rate reduction for added aliasing and decimation noise. a very noisy plugin.
- +matrix – a mid-side to left-right encoder and decoder. for mid-side microphone arrays, but also useful when needing to apply effects to only the center or the sides of a stereo mix.
- +phasescope – the standard studio tool for seeing the phase relation between your left and right channels. also includes a bit meter.
Multidelay effect tailored for ambient music
Xoxos has released Amboea VST plug-in for Windows which they tell us arranges eight filtered stereo delay lines in serial or parallel with algorithmic crossfading to create a multidelay effect tailored for ambient music.
Twenty algorithms allow the crossfading and filters to be applied before or after the delay lines with optional randomised modulation and pitchshifting. Xoxos says that one instance of Amboea can turn any sound into a dense, continuously varying soundscape, or be used as a straightforward multitap or parallel multidelay.
Pricing and Availability:
Amboea has an introductory price of $10 which will increase to $15

Create advanced stereo delay images in your mixes
Vesco FX tell us that Cross Delay allows you to create advanced stereo delay images in your mixes all in a single plug-in. Here’s what they have to say about it…
Say goodbye to configuring multiple plugins in parallel with complex routing schemes. The controls to allow echo output to be directed between channels is at the unique heart of this VST plugin. Each echo can be sent to the opposite channel from the source signal (echo of the left channel is heard on the right) or subsequent echoes can ping pong between channels. A modulation section allows tweaking the delayed sound with a dynamic combination of depth and speed all on a single control with realistically usable settings through its entire range. Throw in the independent output controls and an adaptive damping and what you end up with a VST delay plugin able to deliver lively and exciting delays for all your mixing needs from home studio to pro studio.
Features:
- 64-bit internal processing resolution.
- Lots of built in presets to get your mix jumpstarted.
- Full automation support of all controls for VST compliant hosts (additional extensions for REAPER).
- Sample accurate, zero-latency algorithm.
- Delays can be routed to the opposite channel or ping pong between channels.
- Single knob, adaptive modulation brings life to the delayed signal.
- Single knob, adaptive damping gives the delayed signal extra depth.
- Delays can be biased to either side for a wider image
- Turns mono tracks into stereo.
- Output can be summed to mono for chorus style effects or to check mono compatibility.
- Eliminates complex routing required to create stereo delay effect
- Works with both mono and stereo input.
- Works with 64-bit and 32-bit audio hosts running on 32-bit Windows OS.
