Who is Hurt by the way?
Composed of singer Theo Hutchcraft and synthesizer player Adam Anderson – both of whom used to be in the bands Bureau and Daggers – they made their first forray into notoriety in July 2009 when they got featured as “Band of the Day” on Guardian.co.uk. They also finished in fourth position in the BBC Sound of 2010 poll.
From then on things kept going well. The band’s debut single “Wonderful Life” was released in early 2010 including a remix by Arthur Baker. At the same time they aslo played their first ever live shows. “Better Than Love” was the second single and was released as a Digital Download on 23 May 2010 with the CD release the following day.
Their first album called “Happiness” will now be released on August 27, 2010. You can expect pop rock with a huge load of eighties influences. Add to that the rather Teutonic looks of both members and you have a nice recipe for success. Without any doubt the Sony answer to the success of The Editors and Interpol.
Woodstock of electronic music is here again
The electro-music festival, known as the “Woodstock of electronic music,” is the world’s premiere event for experimental electronic music. This year’s event features three mind-bending days of innovative electronic music concerts, seminars, workshops, demonstrations, jam sessions, video art, a laptop battle, and a swap-meet. Action starts at 12 noon on Friday, September 10 and runs until after midnight on September 12. Musical activities will be running continuously throughout the three days of the festival.
electro-music 2010 takes place at the Greenkill Retreat Center in Huguenot, New York. On-site lodging and meals are available. Tickets range from $25 for a single day to $325 for a 3-day pass including meals and lodging.

Project Pitchfork presents the “Beholder” video
Project Pitchfork presents the “Beholder” video, taken from their upcoming release “Continuum Ride”. The album will be released on July 27th and comes straight after the 6 track “Remixed” EP. To be released on Trisol the album will be available in a standard and limited edition issue. The standard 12-track version comes as a 6-panel digipak with a 28 pages booklet. The limited version on the other hand holds a hardcover paperback book next to a double CD and DVD.

Primus Luta has become a scholar of electronic sounds himself, and joins us in a guest post to examine a film that, like the music itself, is a work in progress. Electro Wars premieres in its current form in New York Friday, but you can get a first glimpse at the movie and the state of music in the Internet – whether wishful thinking might imagine the Web’s age is over or not.
Friday electro music update feat. Gary Numan and Portishead

Gary Numan is set to perform his 1979 album “The Pleasure Principle” (Numan’s first album under his own name) in full on his upcoming North American tour. Kicking off in Orlando, Florida on October 17, Numan will perform the album in its entirety, plus songs from his upcoming new album “Splinter”. It will be Numan’s first North American tour since 2006.
Portishead have announced that they are about to begin work on a new album which will be the follow-up to 2008’s “Third”. The news was confirmed by the group’s Geoff Barrow on BBC 6 Music adding that the band would start writing for the LP this summer.
Ever wondered whether country mixes well with electro
Geoff Reacher makes strange and wonderful music. He filters guitar licks through a sampling keyboard and drum machine, and then warbles country-ish songs over the tracks in a twangy Texas accent. If you ask Reacher to describe his songs, he’ll probably call them a mixture of country music and electro / rap music.

“I’m trying to play back music the way I hear it,” he says during a gray, overcast afternoon in downtown Athens, where he lives with his wife. It sounds more like indie-electronic music, but that’s just how his music comes out. “I don’t even listen to electronic music,” he says. “These days, it’s pretty much a steady diet of Southern hip-hop. And I don’t know, I think hip-hop is electronic music.” On his website, www.reachers.com, he accurately describes his songs as “electro-country.” And in the liner notes for his new album, Avec Reacher C’est Plus Sûr, he thanks rockabilly pioneer Hasil Adkins, rap producer DJ Screw and folk singer Dave van Ronk for inspirations.
Avec Reacher C’est Plus Sûr, which will be released August 22 on Orange Twin Records, is Reacher’s fourth album and first with national distribution. He says the title is inspired by a flyer his wife picked up while she was in the Peace Corps. “This was a piece of a campaign cloth that [Gabon president Omar Bongo] would hand out,” he says. “It showed his face, and it said ‘Avec Bongo c’est plus sûr.'” Colloquially the title means, “With Reacher, it is more certain.”
Oasis goes electro
The Buenos Aires based label Eternal Sunday Records has just released an album called “An Electro Tribute To Oasis” by Canal Pop feat. Lara Sambert.

John Fryer (Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Fad Gadget) has once again been sitting in the producer’s chair when the electropop duo Ashbury Heights records. The second album “Take Cair Paramour”, with what Ashbury Heights calls “new wave 2.0”, will be released one month from now by Out of Line in Berlin. The first pressing comes with a nine track bonus disc.
Ashbury Heights 2010 is Anders H, new member Kari Berg and on stage, also live keyboardist Johan Andersson.
Latest: New album from Zoo System out next week
According to the guys behind Zoo System their new album “Collision upstairs” will be available already next week.
Since the video trailer Halo showed up on the tube some months back, things have been quiet, but now we have gotten confirmations from the band that their new ambient electro inspired album will be released mid-next week.
Collison upstairs contains 11 well crafted songs made during the past 6 months.
