New free frequency shifter
sg-freakshift
Background info:
This is a not-quite-technically-correct stereo frequency shifter (with seperate controls for the left & right channels) based on techniques seen on this web page: http://www.cim.mcgill.ca/~clark/nordmodularbook/nm_spectrum_shift.html
The reason for this not being technically correct is that doing this the right way would require a lot more CPU. This implementation only achieves true frequency shifting in a certain range of frequencies, while frequencies outside of this range get an effect closer to ring modulation, which is still interesting.
There is also a simple distortion effect and LFOs for modulation.

Thor CZ Refill is here!

The Thor Polysonic Synthesizer is not only an incredible tool for new and inventive sound design but also remains faithful to classic synths with its ability to accurately emulate vintage equipment of the past. In this particular refill we take focus of Thor’s ability to create authentic Casio CZ patches through its phase distortion ocillator. The refill contains 96 patches in Thor and Combinator instruments, 4 tutorial/template files and a document discussing the CZ architecture and approach to emulation within Thor. For those who have owned one of the CZ-101/1000 synthesizers will appreciate the first 16 patches of this refill which are almost identical to the factory presets that shipped with the original units.

Introducing

Thanks to White Crow for allowing us to present the community with the free refill. This is a great refill that nearly emulates the full range of the Yamaha CS-01. By taking the raw waveforms of the original unit and assigning combinator controls to modulate ASDR and filter combinatinos you basicaly have a full functioning CS-01. At almost 42MB it find a nice place in your refill library. Enjoy!
New free VSTs from Synthgeak and free Reason Refills
Synthgeek has released the SG-WSS1, SG-APCX and SG-APC1, three free virtual synthesizer plug-ins for Windows.
![]()
SG-WSS1, SG-APCX and SG-APC1 details
- SG-WSS1 — The “WSS” stands for Wave Shaping Synth. This is a subtractive synth based on an idea inspired by my K2000. By no means an emulation, it merely makes use of waveshaping techniques similar to a couple of the K2000’s DSP algorithms. Think VA with a twist, and some nice modulation options.
- SG-APCX — This is an expanded version of the APC1 synth found below, including more filter options, distortion, and modulation via 3 LFO’s & 3 step sequencers. Think of it as a groovebox for crazy synth fx. It can also be coerced into lo-fi squelchy bassline territory, though due to it’s nature, tuning can be tricky.
- SG-APC1 — A rather simple noise machine inspired by the Kaustic Machines Atari Punk Console. Best when tweaked or automated, as otherwise it just puts out a steady tone. Includes a basic on-off MIDI gate and a highpass filter for added usefulness.
Synthgeek’s VST plug-ins are available as freeware for Windows PC – Download them here >>

Free Industrial Distortion VST
NoiseSoft have released their first effect plug in – Hard Line industrial distortion. They say that it’s a custom noise based distortion effect that will take your sound from a clean ‘natural’ gain to an extreme level of distortion that simulates a white noise waveform at it’s highest setting.
The plug-in has a single knob design:
- GAIN: Lowest setting is pure bypass, highest setting is extreme distortion, almost to the point of white noise.
