Terry West has released Twelve, a free graphic equalizer effect plug-in for Windows.
Modeled after some famous hardware units.
Note this is a beta version, expect some bugs (or hopefully not). Todo: Auto-bypass per band, Autogain, Automation.

Cakewalk has announced that it’s now offering it a bunch of free Windows music software, including synths and effects processors.

Christian Budde says that the new Noise Reduction plug-in is based on a spectral gate to filter out unwanted noise in the frequency domain. The gate is based on the lightweight dynamic series and features a soft knee and customizable attack and release times.

Free synth for Nintendo DS
Hotelsinus Sound Design has released version 0.23 of TonesynthDS, a free software synth for the Nintendo DS. TonesynthDS is an easy to use matrix tone synth with a simple instrument generator.
TonesynthDS features
- 16×16 pattern editor (16 accord, 16 tone (the scale is selectable), first line is always the C3).
- 16 different pattern stock.
- Different volume setting possibility for each accord (in the second editor mode).
- Adjustable tempo.
- Possibility to play a pattern looped with the default sound samples or with generated sound samples.
- With the button X you can clear a pattern (and set the volumes of that pattern to maximum).
- Sound sample generator. You can listen a test sound with ADSHR, play a continuous test sound without adshr (but you can set the parameters on the fly) or generate the full stock, that will be used by the pattern player. The system is fully usable while you play or generate samples. Although the playing of the pattern will be paused during the generation.
- For the generation there are two oscilloscopes. Both can generate sinus, saw, rectangle and organ. The frequency of the second oscilloscope can be set relative to the frequency of the first oscilloscope with a slider under that except for the ‘am’ mixing type where you can set the absolute frequency between 0 and 20 hertz.
- 3 mixing types: Amplitude modulation, ring modulation (the difference is in the base frequency of the second oscilloscope) and cross modulation. For the last one you can set the cross fade factor with the slider under the first oscilloscope.
- Low pass filter with resonance.
- ADSHR for the generated samples. The length of the samples are limited to 2 seconds.
TonesynthDS v0.23 is available as freeware for Nintendo DS.
New free synth – TAL-Elek7ro
VST TAL-Elek7ro
TAL-Elek7ro is a virtual analog synth with some special features like oscillator hardsync and frequncy modulation. Including improved alias free oscillators, new developed fast envelopes and lfo’s with a wide range from 0.1Hz up to 400 Hz. A free routable envelope with attack and decay is available too. This synth is useful for a wide range of sounds from percusion to deep bass sounds.

- 2 oscillators with hardsync, PW and FM (saw, pulse, triangle, sine).

Free – X*ONE is a virtual monophonic synthesizer
X*ONE is a virtual monophonic synthesizer with one oscillator, one modulator, and one 12dB lowpass filter. Although the design is similar to Alterex’s ViCON the sound of this module is described as “phatter”. This basic unit has some tricks up its sleeve and is one of the core parts of Alterex’s X*PAND VSTi – that will be released next year.
Features:
- Modulator: low frequency oscillator and envelope generator (tempo synced).
- Oscillator: saw, square waveform and manual pulse width control.
- Filter: 12 dB lowpass filter with dedicated envelope modulator.

Synthgeek has released the SG-WSS1, SG-APCX and SG-APC1, three free virtual synthesizer plug-ins for Windows.
SG-WSS1, SG-APCX and SG-APC1 details
- SG-WSS1 — The “WSS” stands for Wave Shaping Synth. This is a subtractive synth based on an idea inspired by my K2000. By no means an emulation, it merely makes use of waveshaping techniques similar to a couple of the K2000’s DSP algorithms. Think VA with a twist, and some nice modulation options.
- SG-APCX — This is an expanded version of the APC1 synth found below, including more filter options, distortion, and modulation via 3 LFO’s & 3 step sequencers. Think of it as a groovebox for crazy synth fx. It can also be coerced into lo-fi squelchy bassline territory, though due to it’s nature, tuning can be tricky.
- SG-APC1 — A rather simple noise machine inspired by the Kaustic Machines Atari Punk Console. Best when tweaked or automated, as otherwise it just puts out a steady tone. Includes a basic on-off MIDI gate and a highpass filter for added usefulness.
